Before and after cam mods, rolling road results... #549258

I tried searching past forum posts but can't find any 'before and after' camshaft modification dyno rolling road results?

I remember a while back finding a few which proved very useful.

Can anyone help?

Thanks Begbie!

Following on from this post I'd love to see some Dyno's - especially before and after cam mods.

http://www.fiatcoupeclub.org/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=542760&fpart=1

I am probably going to put my standard cams back to see if I can get better low end grunt... I am more then happy to loose 20-30 bhp/ lb/ft top end.

Do you have a graph?

http://www.treadcare.com/randompics/thema/329/329bhp.jpg -

from this graph you will see that below 3000rpm my engine is dead!

Saint you said:

"pietch I changed to C&B road min cams (slightly smaller than the tipo) - ... My peak power moved from 5200 RPM to 5600rpm but overall power is the same just higher up the revs, I suspect a turbo restriction on my .48 housing. I lost low down torque but gained up top"

Sounds like by changing back to standard may give me more power below 3000 rpm where I want it.

Where is you dyno print out?

ps. Begbie you should be running 4 bar fuel pressure on EVO injectors (I think I read some where you were running less?).

I don't have a before or after graph, only the one that i posted up in the other thread.

It's always been 3.2bar on the EVOCars chip, never ever has been 4 bar, else 4bar + 1.4bar boost = 5.4bar and exceeding the flow limits of the injectors of 5bar.

Oh right... so on my 384ccc injectors I should be running 3.2 bar? On the rolling road session we needed 4 bar to give a safe AFR?

How is lag and below 3000rpm drivability on your car after mods?

yes, 3.2bar on those injectors, but if you are still running the red dot map, then leave it for whatever it was mapped at, but you shouldn't be running such a high fuel pressure, as it is really a bodge for not buying larger injectors. The reason you needed a high fuel pressure to give a safe AFR is because the injectors are maxxing out!

Can't really say, i haven't driven the car for nearly 2 and a half years (due to engine failure), plus there were other mods, like the large turbo which didn't give full boost till 4000rpm

Really?

They seem to work very well. What do you think the max fuel pressure should be on a 384cc injector?

Its set to 4 bar with vacum disconnected (3.5 connected). The I run around 1.4/ 1.5 bar boost.

Should I have 440cc injectors? Will my injectors cause engine managment issues I wonder?

The injector solenoids will burn out, ending them staying open, staying closed, opening too slow, closing too slow. You shouldnt run a road car low pressure injector at 5bar max fuel pressure.

I've already stated what the max pressure is in an earlier post. Pay attention now \:P

Thanks Begbie... I run 1.5 bar boost... so I will set my FPR to 3.5bar with the vacum disconnected right?

I will check this on the rolling road with the wide band air fuel ratio meter, if its too lean I will need what size injectors?

By the way getting the back on the topic of my cams swap - I find the original cams are more torquey off boost but feel like less power top end on cam(compared with tipo inlet and old inlet as exhaust setup). Its all down to preference and turbo setup really. I guess the wilder cams with a standard turbo would be equally as good as standard cams and a bigger turbo for every day road use.

Don't go randomly adjusting the fuel pressure and boost, as if you have been mapped with 4bar, dropping the fuel pressure you will be running lean.

As for injector size, plenty of info on the 'net about this. Decide your power output, then choose the injectors

So pietch, did you get on the RR

I heard one guy on evocorner saying he made more power with OE cams the C&B so would be interested to hear how you went.

Cheers

Saint:

Going back soon! Std cams back in and power down low is much better although is it a little less grunty past 5500rpm... but real world power is up!

I did a before r/r session so will get an overlayed graph when I return soon!

Great to hear Pietch that we have some definate info,

I heard on the evocorner grale forum about a few guys taking the cams back out and going but to OE - but I thought that was the larger ones

Total area under the graph will most interesting, I don't mind giving up a bit of low down power myself as long as overall on the road performance is better (ie 0-60 times etc)

Also did you swap over C&B cams or tipo cams? can you give as the specs of the cams and the results and make a post in tuning

Can you PM me when you post, I don't look in here often \:D

The spec sheet from Magnet Marelli on these injectors (IW 058) states that they are racing injectors, able to run at 90% duty cycle and 5bar max fuel pressure.

fiat coupe have IW 158 injectors, not Iw 058
158 = 380cc and one hole more,
058 = 384cc
\:D i believe so
