Well, it’s been a couple of weeks since I visited Wallace Performance in Aberdeen so I thought it was about time I did a write up about the experience there.
Went down on a Saturday morning first thing to find a budding Matty half asleep; sipping coffee like there was no tomorrow!!! I gave him the keys to my good old 16VT and let him get started with it on the rollers
Now, firstly, my 16VT has minor modifications in that it has a SIP, Evo 8 FMIC, PRV and an aftermarket dump valve. Other than that the engine has just been looked after with regular services and a clutch change not too many miles ago. The car had also been checked over by me a little while ago to ensure the cams were not suffering from the chocolate effect and that the compression was good over all four cylinders.
Since the car was mechanically sound, the first two runs on the rollers were to check how the fueling was. To my surprise the good old coop was getting more than enough fuel on the standard map and making good power.
Next we decided to put in the chip I bought off of Nick_d on the forum. The car was running well and made just over 230bhp with almost 250lb/ft of torque, but it made my widget flag up an eprom error that wouldn’t go away. Because I like my widget/paranoia screen we decided to put in the standard chip again and up the boost since the car had more than enough fuel available.
After a few more runs and some fine tuning of the boost levels, the car made a relatively good 215Bhp with 250 lb/ft of torque. Unfortunately the car misfired on the last run so the graph doesn’t look so nice I think it was because my HT leads and plugs need to be renewed, but I will only find out once I change them and put it back on the rollers.
Needless to say it is much nicer to drive now, with that bit more power and the extra torque has made a huge difference to the way the car feels when on boost.
Next up is a de-cat and some colder plugs with new HT leads. Possibly even a dink chip, but need to make sure it won’t flag anything up on my widget.
All in all, I must say I was and still am very impressed with the level of service at Wallace Performance. Needless to say I will be going back as the RR they have doesn’t seem to be punting out ‘pub figures’ and the prices are very reasonable for the time and effort put in to my car.
Here are the RR graphs:
