Still gutted after 1 month - Coupe RIP

I just like to officially bid farewell to You lot, although I hope I will have a reason to really come back one day and not lurk like I do now.

The 1st of December our garage, 18 cars incl. my 2 (Coupe and 125) burned down in what seems like arson, although it may be hard to prove.

I was keeping my Coupe for the rest of my life.
This winter held some improvements like new Alfa 330mm brakes, suede steering wheel, new FMIC etc etc.

It was insured but as with similar cases, the money will never get me another one even if I do get the full outlay from over 12 years..

Also completely destroyed was my 125 Special '72, all my tools, and all parts for my Argenta + Punto. The Argenta was in another garage thank god.

I've had great help and inspiration from this forum over the years, thank You!
I also got to meet some of You at 2 SpaItalia's, 2010 & 2014.

That's heartbreaking to see Per, truly gutted for you

I'm so sorry to see what's happened, not just to the Coupe, but all the other cars you had too

No need to say farewell to us lot though, you can still lurk and post and I'm sure some of us will still be around to say hello to at Spa and on here in years to come.

If it was arson, I hope you find who did it, although that's no consolation and the damage has already been done

You was proud of your coupe and rightly so,all your hard work and knowledge made it a fantastic car.

Per, even if I hadn't met you and had the opportunity to nose round and take the odd photograph of your fabulous coop at Spa, I'm dumbfounded at the carnage wrought by this awful deed. With all the knowledge that you've gained I hope you can at some stage in the future plough it back into another coupe.

Oh Gawd, those pictures make me feel a bit sick.

How does your insurance work Per, is it a set value as a modified car or just standard 20vt insurance?

The coupe isn't an antique or particularly rare, you can bounce back with something even better if you really want to.

Sorry to hear that Per, that's awful news.

Locating a new coupe and building it up to a similar standard would keep you occupied for a while and at least you could look back in a year or two and not see this as a total loss.

As everyone else has said, very saddened to see the results of this fire.
Hopefully it was not a deliberate act but if it was, that you can be adequately reimbursed to restart your hobby.

I echo the other comments.

Hopefully something phoenix-like will rise from the ashes in the form of another stunning coupe.

Hope 2015 brings you a good insurance payout.

Feel gutted for you.
But as a door slams shut a window pops open im sure good will come in some shape or form.
And now to cheer everyone up.
You can't keep Fiats in garages there free range cars without rain they would all burst into flames.
My friend had his garage burst into flames and guess what the cause was? That's right a Fiat punto spontaneously combusting lol.

Oh man this is bad news! Feel free whenever you're in Belgium to jump in my car to have a drive.

As for insurance it's not by far set yet, and there are some claims to fully complete yet too. God there was so much stuff.. Wheels, gearboxes, headlights, calipers. Luckily I have photos of most of it.

I actually scrapped my plans of swapping my winterPunto for a newish BMW 118D, instead I bought a '06 BMW Z4 M Coupe (another Bangle..) which I'm keeping for the summer to evaluate. But don't be surprised if sell it for another Coupe eventually.. This BMW reminds me how unbeatable a well sorted Coupe is. Trouble is, do I want to do the exact same (expensive) journey again..? We'll see.

Per am so sorry to hear of the fire and loss of your collection & coupe, as much as it is heartbreaking to see all your hard work in such a mess at least you have the opportunity to start over in the new year. Best wishes.

Very sad sight, I don't own a coupe (yet) but know how I react if one of my cars or bikes gets the slightest scratch or dent. Hope you get the insurance to cover a good part of your financial loss, and that you find another coupe.

Such a sad end to a great Coupe. It has been great seeing it travel across Europe over the last few years, always being driven hard and fast on the big tracks. Best of luck Per.

We never met, but it was amazing to see the very thoughtful and subtle modifications to your silver 20vt over the many years and the many photo updates. So sad to hear of the loss and hope you do find an eventual replacement to continue your 20 vt journey.
