It also drains it from the trough surrounding the boot opening below the rear windscreen.

My drive runs the other way to yours, so I have to reverse out.

I tried your discovery this afternoon - it didn't work.
Then I realised my drive is flat.

(The corner of a leather works for me!)

I use a blow torch to dry mine out.
