K+N panel filter - cleaning - 09/11/2006 19:38
Hi. Took my airbox apart yesterday to see what lurked, and found what i think is a K+N filter (Its orange cotton gauze rather than the usual paper i'd expect). But, its filthy, as in caked in crap, full with random crap.
How shall i clean it? I know they have a 'million mile warranty' on them so it shouldnt need replacement. I thought of blasting the crap out with compressed air but im not sure that would do it.
Suggestions?
Thanks.

You can buy a recharger kit for a tenner, it has the cleaner and fresh oil in two sprays.
Or buy a proper paper filter

It's best not to use compressed air as it will damage the cotton filter. You should wash it with K&N detergent and warm water, allow to dry fully and then apply the K&N oil.
The oil is what catches the dirt. But don't over do it or you will restrict air flow

How similar will the K+N cleaner/oil be to Pipercross stuff? i have a pipercrosscleaning kit from a cone filter i have.
Just a thought.
Cheers.

head and shoulders best and then use some WD40 to re-oil it and your fine
worked for me
use it on the xantias one and youll be surprised how much comes out, i reccomend using a shower head on a gentle setting and only as warm as you yourself would have and away you go
You could use engine degreaser but you dont want to be too hard on the filter element itself as they arent super strong

works wonders for a lot of things car related like the carpets and stuff ive washed with it
its nto too harsh and being the one for greasey hair helps a lot as long as it doesnt have conditioner in it
