Whats mine worth?

Whats mine worth? - 28/03/2006 03:19

I have a bit of a hankering for a convertible for the summer and am toying with this idea. But having just spent a shed load of money on it, will not let it go for silly money and may not even sell it, but what do people think it may be worth?

The car:
P reg - private "coupe" plate staying on the car.
66k miles
Sprint blue, excellent bodywork
LE skirts
All alloys refurbed and perfect, plus 4 good Eagle F1's
Plus grill

The inside:
Black leather
Front Recaros
Silver console
Momo gear knob
All chrome bits and rings
Sony MP3 player

The engine:
Superspool hybrid (2 months old)
3" full blueflame system
Evo FMIC
Ramair induction kit
Sparco Strut brace
Walbro fuel pump
Polished rocker cover
Red dot disc all round
Greddy boost controller
Unichipped over gtech 1 - has been mapped at 275, since then had new turbo, Gtech II, pump, etc, booked for a remap in next month, should be closer to 300.

Servicing:
Belts changed
Clutch changed last year
Clutch slave cylinder changed last year.
New oil cooler and pipes last year
New Injectors last year
New wishbones last year
New radiator last year
FSH (last service at PowerFiat)
TAX till June 07
MOT till Feb 07

In 6 months of owning this, it has been faultless and is a very clean example of a well modded coupe. Roger at Powerfiat knows the car and I am sure he would speak for it.

This is not a definite sale, but if the right money came along. So whats it worth and does anyone want it

Your car should probably be priced similar to later models with average mileage and maybe even some highish mileage plus models due to the impressive spec and maintainance.

Hard one to call but id say about £5600/£5800 but i may be way out???

Re: Whats mine worth? - 28/03/2006 13:34

£3K

Re: Whats mine worth? - 28/03/2006 13:45

I think I'll sell it to Dan and not you
Posted By: bezzer

Re: Whats mine worth? - 28/03/2006 14:14

TBH I think you'd be looking at anything between £5K and £6K for it Jim

I'd certainly have been interested if you'd put it up for something around that.

Re: Whats mine worth? - 28/03/2006 14:36

I wouldn't buy it at any price. It used to have a dirty great big tea tray on the bootlid

Re: Whats mine worth? - 28/03/2006 14:58

Yeah but at least my skirts aren't falling off and the boot has been replaced since then

Ah, it's OK, I would have come clean and told the WHOLE truth anyway!

Nasty, nasty spoiler, it was, I think I might even have a picture of it (on your car) somewhere!

LMAO, that's the exact one, that was outside the house of the guy Jay bought it from! Ha ha ha, I was almost embarrased to FOLLOW him with that on there. We made him take it off as soon as he got the car home!

You were lucky the KKK (Keepstandard-Koupe-Klan) didn't burn it for having that spoiler on it

Re: Whats mine worth? - 28/03/2006 15:40

I still reckon you'll be lucky to get any more than £3250 for it. It's old, it's modified, not a good combination for potential buyers

All coops are old, yours is 6 or 7 years old

As for being modified I agree not everyones cup of tea (namely yours ) but some potential buyers look for modded cars. Not everyone wants a slow boring 220 std car

Re: Whats mine worth? - 28/03/2006 15:48

True, but a lot of people want one that they can modify themselves, where they know what is being done/has been done/how it's been done. And 6 years old is still newer than 9 or 10
Anyway, you asked for opinions, I gave you mine, you don't have to agree with it

I was being complimentary

If it were sprint blue, I would have said about 50p

I'm going to step away from the spade now

My offer still stands, Jim.

Re: Whats mine worth? - 28/03/2006 17:21

LOL thanks Matt but I just had some for my lunch.

Funnily enough I saw an advert on the TV last night after talking to you and there was a yellowy / beigey packet - what flavours that, I may be interested

Re: Whats mine worth? - 28/03/2006 17:38

As you say Jim there are people prepared to buy a modded car, but not as many as those wanting umolested examples, and this one is as good as they get.
That does not nesessarily mean you will have to accept silly money, but you may have to wait quite a while for the right buyer.

Trouble is that most people get their kicks from the whole modding process and not the end result, as your decision testifies

I think adding the spoiler again and talking in txt spk about how wikkid n fast n furios it is on ebay, may well hook a young chav.

I think you should get around the 4K mark, it's a lovely tastefully modified coupe.

Re: Whats mine worth? - 28/03/2006 18:57

I'm with Pinin & Scooby, 3-4K is all you'll get I think. There are lots of people selling at the moment and they don't seem to be shifting that fast. I think you'd be better off keeping it (friends garage?) and buying a soft top. How about this beauty? Very rare, I wonder why.

Why whats wrong with mine

I know what you mean, but there is modded by dropping a chip and upping the boost and there is modded by doing it properly - its the latter that are rarer. But I am in no major rush to sell, just fancy the idea of a convertible, but maybe not that one

Re: Whats mine worth? - 28/03/2006 19:38

I don't think there is a problem with selling coupes that are heavily modded.

Recently we've seen Arthur and Bens (ex-Fishy Daves) go via the Forum and prior to that Hannys and Jimbos went as well.

People do want modded coupes, usually someone on here who's got a standard one but would like to have one thats been tweaked.

And I don't buy into this 'doing the mods yourself is part of the fun' idea. Buying a modded coupe that has been run in that set up for some time appeals to me more than doing it myself.

My 2p's worth
Posted By: JimO

Re: Whats mine worth? - 28/03/2006 21:50

Exactly, thanks Ian. I bought my coupe after Jintel had done a large majority of the modding, thus getting it substantially cheaper than doing it myself. Rog had done the work for Jintel and he would have done the work for me, so no difference there then. And now after finishing the modding off, someone will hopefully purchase from me at again a reduced price than if they done it themselves and again all the work has been done by Rog or Barbz, its not as if I have cobbled bits together from bean tins and string.

IMO some people need to get their heads out of the sky on this forum and realise that the coop is not the car that they imagine. And no matter how much they preach about keeping it standard and not modding it, it is happening and no matter what they say the coupe is a cheap affordable fast car and not a classic

Re: Whats mine worth? - 28/03/2006 22:17

Nice hat Jim, but i think i can hear something buzzing under there.

I bought my car slightly modified, with the intention of not modifying it much myself. That idea lasted all of about 2 months .

If i was to be looking for a coupe, i'd definately consider yours Jim, when you take into account the cost of reaching this level of modifications( ).

On that note, i'm willing to double what i offered you previously.

Re: Whats mine worth? - 28/03/2006 22:49

Jim, I don't think it would be worth any more if it was standard. My car is not standard so I hope you're not refering to me? I would love for your car to sell for more than I predicted as it would ultimately help raise the value of mine (all of ours for that matter), but I just don't see it happening. If you can't handle the truth, you shouldn't have asked peoples opinions

Heh? Since when was I a purist.? Plenty of mild mods on my car but nothing that cant be undone in a few hours of spanner turning.

Its nasty styling mods that wreck your car, the folk that add all manner of tupperware to their rears.

There's plenty of classic MG's and such like running mild mods, extra cooling, uprated heads etc. it does nothing to harm resale value unless the buyer is a) a bearded real ale drinker with a penchant for pipe smoking or b) a concours d'elegance judge with no friends

Another factor is that mods become so much more acceptable when they are overcoming shortcomings of the original design. Take that company that was on Top Gear who re engineered old XJS's and sold them for thousands more.
