16v or 20v turbo...and cat D question - 01/02/2009 13:52

hiya all, looking for a coupe as the bravo went today.

i know this has been coverd before but having had a 20v n/a 16vt and another 20v n/a vis

im not sure any more

having never been out in a 20vt does it deserve the extra insurance/money?

the 16vt i had was more than fast enough for me, but not great on the fuel

lastly i have found a very nice 16vt, but its been a cat d in the past as it was keyed and cost to much to respray

the works been done and looks to a very high stranded...but should this put me off

Don't you mean Cat D Sam? Cat B, if memory serves, means only suitable for spares and must *not* be put back on the road....

Oh, and if you do mean Cat D, then it's fine.

As above then, Cat D wouldn't worry me, especially if it has only been paintwork damage.

Sam, can I very respectfully give you some free advice? Based on your previous experiences of cars, which has been dire and distressing, please do not rush into buying the first thing that comes along and try to get someone who knows about cars to have a good look at it. I would genuinely hate for you to be ripped off yet again \:\(

Excellent that Joe will check it over, that is good news Sam. I'll keep my fingers firmly crossed you (and Joe) get a really cracking coupé

Whatwever you are prepared to pay and the seller is prepared to accept...as any car...but I wouldn't pay more than £1k for a CAT D 16vt ;\)

all coupes that have a small knock will now be classed as a C or D. Its extreme but a dealer repair on a dented bonnet is massive and beyond the cars value. Mine is a clas C. Only had vandal scratches in the bonnet and down the side. Car is great and well looked after. remember a car can be repaired in its history and not be on any data base. Car can be sold as damaged without going through insurance and still have a clear hpi scan. If all looks ok then go for it. A good look underneath will tell you a lot
