Z4M on track - 11/08/2016 10:40

Thought I'd share a bit of Mondays fun. Added a bit of rear toe out which has made the handling 'lively'! laugh

Yes, all good thank you mate. Have you been on track recently? Fancy a drive of the Z4 later in the year? smile

Yup - that looked like proper fun - glad I'm not paying for your tyres laugh

I feel a bit seasick watching road car videos after my race car...

Is your car completely OEM Dave?

Looks good fun. cool
Seeing Z4's at circa £5k has me thinking... chinny
How would a 3.0 compare to a Z4M?

Pretty much yes, only significant differences from standard are AP brakes all round, Eibach springs (standard dampers), a strut brace (bugger all difference) and induction kit for a bit more noise.

The blue Z4M Coupe by comparison has the same tyres (Nankang), springs and brakes as mine but is partly stripped inside, lighter/wider tyres, CSL airbox and re-map and full race exhaust.

I've never driven one, but remember following one on track with slicks on and it went pretty well.

It depends on what you are using it for? If it's a track toy I would also urge you to look at the Boxster S for similar money or just a bit more.
Comparing the Z4M to the 3.0 is something a number of owners have done, see here: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=88487&hilit=comparison+z4m

The Z4M and 3.0 are quite different IMO, in running costs, performance, sound, ride, braking, steering, traction and more, but both will put a grin on your face. cool

Think the 3.0 has open diff?

Yes, that's right.

Re: Z4M on track - 16/08/2016 22:39

I have also been looking at 3.0 l z4's for a fun car and convertible although would consider a Porsche but have never liked the boxter
I fancy a z4 but something that is not pristine as I miss the not "caring" about the car and am anal about parking my coupe in any car park which irritates me
So something fast and fun that I can use, but I guess I should consider using the fiat more?! Hmm

Re: Z4M on track - 17/08/2016 17:20

Thanks very much Dave.
A am on the look out for a 200+ bhp, 5-8 year old open top for the weekend and maybe a bit of track day driving.
The Boxster S and BMW Z4 are on the shortlist, far more so than a TT.
The BM seems at bargain basement prices currently and the Boxster's also seem to me to be at never to be repeated money?
The styling of the Z4 never used to appeal, but strangely it seems to have aged well and has grown on me. cool
Trouble is finding one that has not been abused.... crazy

Re: Z4M on track - 17/08/2016 17:47

There are plenty of them out there in standard condition without big alloys and slammed, but I know what you mean. Of the two, for track driving I would slightly prefer the Boxster S for its superb standard brakes and a price that is unlikely to go down, although it is more difficult to do any major engine work. I've not driven the 3.0 Z4 though so maybe I'd change my mind if I did?

Looks like you've got that one under control nicely Dave!

There's a few of us doing Combe on Monday 5th September - are you there then?

Sadly no, it's the day after our Donington meeting so I'll be busy at work. Would be good to catch up though.
