SpaItalia 2011.

SpaItalia 2011. - 08/11/2010 10:37
We have the dates: 4 & 5 June 2011.
The club is organising a special deal once more with entry for both days and 30 minutes Coupe only track time each day, Saturday afternoon and sunday morning.
We have been able to hold the price at 100€ or the sterling equivalent as long as we have a minimum of 30 participants.
The club will need a deposit of 30€ or £30 per car from each participant by the end of November.
I will be posting full details in the next day or so.
In the meantime please add your name to the list if you want to join us in another great weekend.
Thanks.

If those are the Confirmed dates it is unlikely that I'll be there. I have an agreement with my two shift colleagues, both with school age children, that I don't book holidays on half terms. Trish has also already booked he Holidays to start a week later, avoiding clashing with parents at half term
Also checked the Ferry and this works out at an extra £50 more than going a week later

It does indeed Bob, I am still trying to find a better ferry deal but no joy so far.
Bloody half term.
And it is a confirmed date.

Half term throws in added complications re kids arrangements, that may threaten my participation, but I'll try to work something out before the end of November.

I maybe up for this but only as a spectator as i dont fancy thrashing my LE to destruction what are the costs involved for spectators only (just accomodation and beer money i presume)would it be ok to bring the wife and kids too

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 08/11/2010 22:47
You dont need to thrash your car, just take it at your own pace. Its worth driving around the track just to see how steep Eau Rouge is

B, see super Theresa cream all on track (i have seen her driving)
Lol, I'm not bad on the road with lots of unexpected manoeuvres from other road users, a fag in my hand and some tunes on, but the thought of a track scares me, as well as driving legally on the wrong side of the road
I have proccy calling me a chicken and Mike pushing me to bring my car, maybe they just don't want me as a passenger with all
my purple jumpers luggage

You remember correctly Joe.
100€ gets admission to the circuit for 1 car with driver and 1 passenger for the weekend plus the 2 half hour track sessions.

I don't think i'll be there next year as i will have a full racing programme and it's a very expensive trip all round trailering the car etc. However i have just bought a motorhome so maybe the wife and child might fancy it we'll see.
A brilliant weekend all round and quite possible the best track i've monstered my car around ever!!!
Oh and Theresa is not a bad passenger at all i'd say.

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 11/11/2010 13:51
Thank you very much Theresa that's very kind.
Echoing Marco's words, a weekend at Spa can be expensive, you'll burn a tank of fuel an hour on track, it'll wreck your tyres if you drive hard, it's a fast circuit so there's a possibility you'll blow your engine
it's 4 days really with all the preparation time ect, the beer has large frothy heads and the Belgiums don't serve a pint like they do in the Uk, would I miss it.... No way
When you drive up Eau Rouge for the 1st time you then realise why we go to Spa for this meeting, that hill is something else, you have to experience it, and if its wet........ it's even more fun
To all those who'd like to go but don't want to wreck their cars, just do it, the Parade laps are busy but there's loads of room to let the quicker guys go past, you can go as fast as you want but watch out for those Ferrari drivers, they can be
...
It's a real hoot, good company, loads of laughs and well worth all the trouble

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 12/11/2010 11:05
and also, if you do blow your motor Joe is there to help!!
giggady!!
its going to be expensive...
im going to budget £600.. is that about right? or am i dreaming?

For me it was:
Ferries £150
Entance £100
Track time £300
Fuel 180 lites V Power
Fuel 200 litres Diesel
Hotel £150
Food and Beer for me and 2 mechanics £400
Not cheap but a great weekend and my only gremlin was a little fire!!
£600 Ummmm
I probably did that in fuel alone

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 12/11/2010 12:00
Really??
It cost me £650 to go to the Nurenburge ring for 4 days...
That was all in...
Shocking.
So we are looking at £1500 min.. The price of a cheap coupe...
Hmmm... I will be thinking long and hard about this now.
I'd say £1000 Marco, my fuel costs were higher then most as I did have to go back to Spa

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 12/11/2010 12:05
and its a 2 day event...
£500 per day.. its alot for 2 days...
im a possible for now..

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 12/11/2010 12:15
If i may be so bold to say that Sparco And Joe were (are) at the top end of cost. I only did the two half hours+ entrance for the weekend £100.
Hardly any fuel on track maybe £20.
Camping Cheap as chips.
Fuel to get there ? depends where your coming from.
The rest is booze and grub.
£ 600 for Marco i reckon is about right.
Yes you're right there Joe, if I hadn't of done all the track time and hotel I could of probably done this for £600, maybe a little cheaper.

Next year i intend to do more track time(fingers crossed).
This winter i hope to have the coupe set up a bit tighter on the braking.
I will tow the coupe up on a trailor,so if anyone needs to be got back to Calais/ Dunkerque it wont be a problem.I have booked the sunday night also at the camping.

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 12/11/2010 12:32
You do not need to spend that much.
It depends how much extra track time you want to pay for at about 140€ per hour plus around 50 litres of fuel an hour driving enthusiastically.
The basic cost from the channel port will be more like
Ferry, £120 because it's half term.
Basic package £100
Fuel £120
Hotel and meals £150 two nights
or camping and meals £75
So around £500 if you are staying in a hotel, plus the cost of however much beer you want to get down your neck.

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 12/11/2010 12:33
it would be a good idea if some one brings a trailor..
that way if any thing happens we can get it on UK soil to get it recovered home!
you could earn a nice penny off that mate!

any news on the hotel yet??
cost i mean...
and is it B&B or all inclusive?

your a bad man joe... you make me want to spend more money than i can afford..
BUT if you said you wanted to attack the
Stelvio pass... on the way to the ring... i would just have to come with you in convoy...you know..just incase...

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 12/11/2010 12:45
We are running the weekend jointly with the French club, the English club is dealing with the circuit and the hotel is being organised by the French club.
We will be publishing details when it is arranged.
SpaItalia is still over 6 months away.

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 12/11/2010 12:51
Stelvio pass is nothing. It's just hairpin corners and crazy bikers. And some snow at the top. We've taken FAR more exciting roads on our way to Italy! Stelvio on our way back and really really disappointed. And in some places the road / tunnels is too narrow for two cars to pass. Duh. From now on I call it the Stelvia. It's for girls.
Anyway.
Don't let the price scare you off. If you take the club package for £100 you really only need to add meals, hotel and petrol - which are all variable costs depending on your trip, driving style, accomodation expectations,...

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 12/11/2010 17:39
Yes helmets are required, with the exception of the parade laps when you can drive with no lid on.
Posted By: Anonymous
Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 12/11/2010 17:52
Ok, thanks. So when do parade laps take place? I presume that's in addition to the coupe-only sessions?
James

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 12/11/2010 17:58
Yes - I'm not sure of the schedule yet, but you need to pay extra for these sessions. They are good value for money, and a good way to introduce yourself to the circuit amongst some very interesting machinery - albeit behind a pace car.

marco you can do it quite cheaply as others have said. magooagain, coupedummy and a few others stayed at this caravan park and you can get one for 65 euro euros a night so if mario is there its 65euros each for 2 nights!! cheap as chips mate!! if lashes goes it's obviously much cheaper
also, i'm probably going the caravan route this year to save a few bob and spend a little more on track time. i'm budgetting £650 but i expect to spend less

I will (again) be staying at the campsite with Sem (Smetn.be) next year. Im taking a Dutch friend, Jeffrey, with a mint 16vt with me as well.I met a lot of great people there last year and would definately recommend those who are looking for a relative 'cheap' stay to take a look at that campsite. We have good belgium beer and throw-away BBQ's which we will buy 3 mins before the store closes

how does euro-tunnel compare vs ferry? prices seem similar and more flexible, any comments from people who know?
Posted By: PeteP
Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 20/11/2010 19:20
Its quicker,35 minutes crossing, but an extra 45minutes driving on the other side to get to Spa.
Is very expensive if you need to use it at short notice... about 200€ each way back in 2008 when I had to use it due to severe gales in the channel shutting down the ferries.

oooooooooooooooo who you bringing T????
Did you read the thread about the sex dolls? I've bought a male one
Lol, I was chatting to my daughter about how worried I was driving on the other side and she said it might help if I took a passenger with me.
I asked her if she wanted to come and to my surprise, she said yes.
Think she's just up for some fun and a road trip tbh. She doesn't drive, not too interested in cars and gets bored with me going on about the Coupe, but fancies a few days away with her Mum and doing something different.
She does want to go out on track as a passenger though and see what it's all about, so she'll be ok and I think she'll enjoy herself
She's also looking forward to meeting 'the purple jumper' too
She doesn't smoke, but she does drink alcohol, so not too bad
so does this mean she's taking her coop?
Yes, hence the £35 deposit
Although, this is based on the promise of you and Mike hitching up to my car in front and behind while driving abroad and making sure I don't stray onto the opposite side of the road/motorway, etc

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 01/12/2010 10:27
That's pretty much what she said I might need a passenger for, so I don't think she has much faith in me or the Coupe
I did tell her though, that someone called Steve would be buying us drinks all night if he loses us in a convoy

how does euro-tunnel compare vs ferry? prices seem similar and more flexible, any comments from people who know?
I have just had a look, at the moment there are short stay saver fares available 3rd and 5th June from £42 each way, which is better than I have been able to find from ferry companies.

me too, anyone fancy booking in? i realise it's a further drive but you get across quicker don't you?
Posted By: PeteP
Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 02/12/2010 19:56
Yes, roughly an hour and a half quicker across and a slightly shorter drive this side.
How about the 7:50 am crossing on the Friday morning and 20:50 coming back on Sunday?
Thursday 2nd is a public holiday in Belgium so traffic may be a bit heavier than usual as people take a long weekend.

I'm not too bothered if it's the ferry or the eurotunnel and will go with the majority.
Although, considering how tired we all were this year, the ferry would maybe be the better option for getting a break from driving.

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 04/12/2010 03:58
Has anyone been on the Eurostar in a Coupe?
I've heard that getting onto the second platform could be a problem with lowered Coupes and also with the turning circle of a 20vt.
I've no idea personally, just wondering if anyone else knows?
Apparently you also have to leave your car in gear and the handbrake off, as well as leaving your windows halfway down?
I know I won't be leaving my Coupe alone with the windows down!

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 04/12/2010 07:38
Yes, the car goes on fine, less of a gradient than some ferries and you stay with the car during the crossing so security is not a problem.

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 05/12/2010 22:49
I don't travel well on ferries as some of you may have noticed so tunnel works for me. Having been on the tunnel a couple of times already, I'd choose it any day over a ferry. If the cost difference is minimal between ferry or tunnel then the tunnel takes away the feeling of travelling across the channel if you know what I mean

There probably is diesel there, but can't confirm for definate.

hi all
Ive got a couple of questions
1, What day is everyone thinking of setting off (so i can book my holidays with work)
2, Is everyone meeting up at the same ferry port so we can drive there as a convoy. If so what ferry port ?
3, Does anyone know what camp site there thinking of staying at ?
Posted By: Anonymous
Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 16/12/2010 16:01
last year we stayed at a travelodge the night before the ferry from dover, various people convoying from around the country - then friday ferry about 8am all together
convoy through france and belgium (until they shook me off
) and arrive Spa
then drink all day and night, same again, then drive home...

I will publish the final date as soon as I have details of the additional open sessions from the organisers which participants may wish to purchase through the club.
I'm not expecting to have those until Feb/March, so I expect the payment deadline will be around the beginning to middle of April.

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 28/12/2010 10:41
It may have been already said on this thread. But be warned folk's that the Spa weekend fall's on a bank holiday (ascension). The French forum are saying that alot of hotels are fully booked already. They have found one with 20 double room's free for the Saturday night.
I think the idea is to find another hotel also.So using two hotels this time.
The first hotel is already posted up on the French forum and i imagine it will be put up here any day now.
In my opinion the hotel issue is becoming very important.
For what it's worth i will be camping and i understand it's not everyone's cup of tea,but i just think the hotel booking need's to be addressed asap.
I will put up a post on the French hotel thread also.

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 28/12/2010 11:14
Thanks Joe,
We are almost ready to put it up here too, we still have to work out the payment details as 50% has to be paid up front.
It is an expensive 4 star hotel, double rooms will be 140€ per night and single 125€ per night, so we are also looking for 1 or 2 cheaper hotels.
Some rooms are available for Friday and Sunday nights too.
It is proving difficult because of the Ascension day holiday, and hotels in the area tend to be quite small, but we are still working on it.
When we have more details either Marcouzze or I will put them up.
This is the website of the first hotel.

Not with enough available rooms Marco. It's a little different when you try to find enough rooms for about 80 people over a public holiday.
And there are some awful crap ones too. I hope you have not booked with the Racing Hotel in Francorchamps.(unless you enjoy finding someone else's pubic hair in your bed as did one french lad 3 years ago)

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 28/12/2010 14:31
petep Thank you for your explanation
Hotels for this period have increased their rates, so no choice, I find hotels around 100 euros per night for 2 people but there are only 10 rooms, this year there are more English than French in spa it's hard to find a hotel for everyone.
For your memory there are 60 cars and 100 people to sleep and spa area is very small and there is no more than 3 hotels to welcome us all together and they are all complete.
I work for a solution but it is not easy.
Thank you

so the poll we had for tunnel/vs ferry show a 9 v 5 in favour of the tunnel - are we saying we should go ahead with this option, and maybe book for mid-morning on the friday? if we do that, would people still want the night in dover the evening before?

I probably would yes, as it's a fair trek for me to do all in one hit.
My journey is about + 2 hours on top of what yours is. Cowboys is about + 3.5.
I think mattB had something like a 12 hour journey to get to Ashford last year

I'll be staying in Brighton the night before, so only a couple of hours max to the tunnel crossing.
And camping in France - I'm up for that...

I'm not sure Martijn, they had one in 2010 and I assumed it was the Alfa Romeo group drive down to the factory in Italy.
It seems not as it's there this year too.
I will ask them.

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 08/01/2011 00:17
Without being a pain Pete and if anyone else agree's..i think the 10.30 slot on the Sunday would be more appropriate as it was last year.
Probably not even an option with arrangement's already made but thought i'd ask.
Just gives time for brekkie, recovery and just general waking up..
Posted By: PeteP
Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 08/01/2011 00:34
The 10:30 slot was not available without paying a considerable amount more. The weekend package would probably have cost you an extra 40%.
We only got the 10:30 slot last time at the lower price because I was flexible allowing another event to take our original time to help the event organisers.
It is too late to change it anyway, and yes it is a PITA getting up for 9:00 on track..

and what's the "open" sessions all about? being a track novice the look of the scuderia is frightening seeing the amount of cars hooning around last year - i could do with more sessions like the coupe ones

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 23/01/2011 15:29
It's a drive round the local countryside using rally style "tulip" notes, around 80-100 kms and it starts off in batches from about 1:30 usually.
When I did it, it was a couple of hours driving.
It's good fun, you need 2 people in the car, 1 to drive and 1 to navigate.

Steve,
Open sessions just means they have not yet sold the track time to an organisation.

May I remind those among us who have yet to pay their deposits that we are limited to a TOTAL of 60 cars on track and that number is very close to being reached.
If more particiants want join us in our club track sessions and pay their deposits, then there is a risk that people who have not yet paid anything will be bumped off the list.
You know who you are, if you are not going to go, please let me know, so that the place can be available for someone else.

Thanks Martijn.
Now for serious matters. We are limited to just 60 cars taking part in the Club track sessions and we are almost there now.
As Marcouzze is not venturing on track and JamesH has had to withdraw, there are currently just two more places available for the full package.
However there are still some users who have neither paid their deposits nor let the club know that they will not be able to go.
Should more than 2 additional people wish to go and who have paid their monies, then people who have neither paid nor cancelled will be removed from this list to make room.

Can some one sticky some dates/times/costs to the top of the thread? I have just spent a good 30mins catching up on this!
Ill be putting my name down again for this this year if im welcome. Its more about the funny road trip and beer with mates than the racing around a track for me.
If I put aside around £600 for the weekend would that be about right? I have no interest in driving around the spa track so do I need to put down a payment to secure a space?
Posted By: PeteP
Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 07/02/2011 20:51
Sam,
You can pay the club £50 for entry for your car and one passenger for the weekend without any track time or alternatively you can register as a participant on the Spaitalia website (
http://www.spaitalia.be/en/den_reg_participants_EN.html ) which will cost you 60 euros until 1st of April afterwards it is 70€.
If you don't want to take your car into the circuit you can buy spectator tickets from them for 12 euros per person for the weekend.
As for the other info you asked for, it is stickied here in the Spa2011 subforum.
Posted By: coupedummy
Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 07/02/2011 20:53
£600 should do you fine pal...You need a ticket to enter the track though...You maybe able to use someone else's if there on there own as it covers two persons....
Track would be great in the stilo though pal...at your own pace...I would do it..
Good to hear your coming along pal

Gentlemen.
The club has yet to receive any money or communication from the following people.
1. Knight7660
2. Chalky
3. Niff
4. Darlo_Nick
5. Limited_Edition
6. Jeffrey2309
7. Potenza
8. Freerider
9. Katre
10. TDPRS
11. Wontsellmycoupe
12. Blitz's friend
13. Hans (NL)
There are others wishing to join this weekend, therefore anyone I do not hear from by 5 pm on Thursday 25th February will be removed from the list and will have to take their chance on a FCCUK package remaining open for them.
It will of course still be possible to attend the event, but the special FCCUK track time may not be available.
It simply would not be fair that others who are willing to meet their financial commitment to the event be stopped from attending.
I leave it with you.
PM me or contact me on spaitalia@fccuk.org .
Pete.

I'm glad to hear that you have got my email!
Only one thing. the Booking form says Forum name:
But I said there Coupe-Love87 but thats my usersname.
As you can see my forum name is Turboman87. Is that gonna cause any problem?
Also I have paid 100euro this evening direct through the bank with the IBAN nr. Hope its gonna work fine haha
My englisch is rubbish. Sorry for that!

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 23/02/2011 20:00
Won't be a problem, most people use their forum display names, I just added Turboman87 to your form.
IBAN transfers generally take a couple of days to show, so I should see it by Monday. I will let you know if it does not arrive.

Extremely disappointed that there's still so many people who haven't done what needs doing!! It's just showing no respect at all for the effort that's been put in by Marcouzze, Pete, the club,... Here's hoping it will still happen, because it's a big financial risk as well.

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 03/03/2011 16:52
I understand what you'r saying mate.
But i was thinking today after reading Marcouzze's post this morning. That this is one of the culture crossover point's.
It,s just so important to French people to orginize their meal. Where as alot of Brit's are very relaxed about it.
Having lived in France for 9 year,s,i could see this becoming a problem. Hence me posting that i would not be attending the hotel meal. I was trying to usher people along abit. All in my own opinion of course.
As far as the form filling in part i totally agree. SO pull your fingers out folks and get it done.

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 05/03/2011 10:02
It is not just important for the meal for the French, with Pete's work was shared, after I looked for a hotel closer to the circuit but without success because our group is too large.
Part hotel and meals is also important that the party circuit, with my own money I pay hotel and meals.

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 05/03/2011 13:25
Yes i agree Marcouzze. I understand that the orginisation of an event as big as this, is a big responsability on on just a couple of people.
Je suis tres content avec votre bulot mon ami.

Plus - i've finally uploaded the video I made of last years adventure. Spa then on to the Nurburgring, San Bernardino Pass and Monaco!! Enjoy! (Sorry about the bit of swearing in the middle of the video, but it was taken on my first ever lap of the Nurburgring so was a little excited!!

Just wanna say between yesterday and today, I've read through this whole thread. It sounds and looks amazing!!!!
Seems as if my drive to the eurotunnel would be the longest part of the journey!!
This is definitely something I'm looking to get involved in next year. Even only to just attend and enjoy the drive!!
Hope everyone has a great time away!!

Just be aware on the track you will easily use a whole tank in 60 mins ! - assuming you're not driving like a

I'm booked in for an additional session, to have a play with some other Italian exotica.
I'll definitely be needing some new rubber after what I did to my track tyres at Donny a few weeks back...
Not sure how long my slicks would hold up for round Spa
And as for my discs, I think Marco got some got shots of the Sudan-esque cracks on them at Brooklands. Yep, BEFORE the track session and the hill climb, and the 120 mile drive home

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 09/05/2011 23:49
Dan, I think it must be your nose heavy set up on your car causing premature tyre wear - i spoke to a very helpful chap at FIAT who told me the Plus grill's are far too heavy for a car with your set up.
Being the friendly chap I am, I'll take it off your hands, and you can enjoy many hours of track time without expensive new tyres.
i'm just thinking of you mate

Pete, can you clarify the helmet requirement for me please? I was talking to Joe CC today and he has cast doubt in my mind.
Do we need helmets for any/all time spent on track? Joe seemed to be under the impression that helmets were not required for the Coupe-only sessions, which has confused me because I thought everyone on track needs a helmet for the insurance.
Thanks,

You can book an hours session where you run behind a pace car. It's good fun as you are on the track with all sorts of exotica, it's a useful way of learning the track layout.

I though that was the case and wanted to be sure. There was different terminology being used by different people. Joe said helmets weren't needed for parade laps, but seemed to imply that they were the Coupe sessions.
Confusion over, cheers!

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 22/05/2011 10:45
What's the route we're driving from Calais to Spa?
Just looked, a few options,
1 - Go along the coast to near Oostend, turn down E40, 345km 3hours 23 minutes
2 - As above, but turn off at Gent onto E313 towards Antwerp to avoid traffic snarles at Brussles, 366km, 3hours 36 minutes but possible avoiding congestion at Brussels
3 - More as the crow flies, but avoids most major towns/cities, and should be more scenic, goes near Lille and Charleroi taking the E42, total 361km, 3 hours 38 minutes.
My favourite option is route 3.
What's the general concensus from those who've been before?
Posted By: Kayjey
Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 22/05/2011 11:46
Antwerp and Brussels can both be traffic packed. Antwerp is often worse, with 50% chance of a 30 km stop start traffic jam. The other 50% is for 15km traffic jam. It's always a guess. Antwerp can be a disaster from 16:00 onwards, Brussels has multiple black points but can be quite fluent at times.
I'd take Brussels coming from where you guys do.

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 22/05/2011 12:05
A16 from the tunnel then into Belgium and straight along the E40 then E42 after Liege. Get round the Brussels ring by early afternoon.

And that number plate gives it away for me, from track days of yesteryear. A well sorted track car that I wanted to buy when it's seller before last put it up for sale.
Does that make me officially a coop spotter?! Still a similar spec as before? Will be good to compare notes at Spa

If you want to time your laps, my advice is to take a camera on board and do it later. If you want to make it a competition (even for yourself): do know realtime chrono makes you take more risks. Just enjoy your time at Spa. Figures are not important, it's the fun you can have.
Note to self: avoid being around Mayzon on the track.

What do I need in the car again for driving through France and Belgium etc?
There's a high vis and a triangle in my boot already I believe.

Haha, well if its not officially being timed then I won't push as hard so don't worry

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 30/05/2011 21:37
So, just out of interest, where do you buy a Fiat Coupe spare bulb set from?
Does it come with replacement bulbs for EVERY light?
Sod that, i'll just take the ones out of my porto and keep in the glove box.
Bloody french.

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 30/05/2011 21:45
Yes, just take what spares you can. That's all I'm doing and hope I can blag the rest if I get pulled
Taking a full set of spares would mean me buying another set of hid's, etc, which I'm not doing.
I'm sure if you get pulled over shiny, we can slip a few bulbs into the car without them noticing

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 30/05/2011 21:47
I've got a spare set of HIDS and bulbs. Bloody French indeed, but they do make nice cheese and wine
High vis jacket = my cycling jacket or workman top
First aid kit? FFS.
The list is worse than prepping the car!!

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 30/05/2011 21:48
While I'm here, thought I'd quickly mention that Poundland sell things like travel adapters and first aid kits, so worth a look there before paying top prices for similar

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 30/05/2011 21:55
Ok, things to clarify:
European health insurance card - ??
Car registration document (V5C) - really?!?
Insurance certificate - ok
MOT certificate - again, really?!?
Warning triangle - never owned one!
Spare bulb kit - spare HID set
High visibility jacket for all occupants. Not to be kept in the boot.
Headlight beam converters - Where from?
First aid kit - poundland or similar!
Aargh...!
Posted By: magooagain
Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 30/05/2011 21:58
I think you can get the health card online or post office.Just stick a bit of tape on your lights mate. But to be honest dont even bother ,we can sort it at the campsite.
Do make sure you have all you're documents though.
Posted By: Theresa
Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 30/05/2011 22:02
Nobody seems to be bothering with headlamp converters and seeing as most/all the driving will be done during daylight hours, we shouldn't really need them.
Otherwise, insulation tape would do as an emergency
- Poundland
Spare headlamp bulbs - Poundland solar lights work better
Warning triangle, about £4 from Ebay
European health insurance card:
Too late for you to apply now anyway most probably!

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 30/05/2011 22:02
Bugger, health card takes at least 10 days to process. I though my old E111 would suffice? Although, tbh, I've not taken anything like this when holidaying in Euroland for years??

Re: SpaItalia 2011. - 30/05/2011 22:07
Well you should then mate. If you end up needing a hospital or doctor you will have no way of reclaiming the expenses that you would need to pay.

Some travel insurance companies try to get out of paying the part which would have been covered using the European health card.
No surprise there then.

It's a fantastic track, but I wouldn't say it's the best in the world, simply because I haven't driven them all. But I have always dreamed about driving on 3 tracks.
1/ Spa - done
2/ Monza - was there last year, but no luck since the Italian club moved the date without letting us know.
3/ Monaco. Which either will never happen or means getting a classic car once and hoping to participate in a classic race there. Did go there two years ago though, followed the track on foot for a bit.
I'll be doing Zolder in June in an F3.
And... Somehow I'm really not interested in the Ring as a track.

We made it back home a few hours ago. Had a great time. Lene's been very very good, and we had two lovely baby-sitters, enabling Joke to join on the track. Memorable moments on and off track. Some crazy fools with Uno's on the Grand Parades who had no regards whatsoever for anyone else (almost took out a couple of cars while losing control) but my wish of them getting into engine troubles was answered.
Coupe sessions were great. The hot weather was an equaliser with air temps going off the scale, meaning the other aspects of the car came into play much more. Abslutely loved the brakes on mine, Brembo Sportmax and Pagid R29s made me brake into Les Combes doing 120 right after the 100m mark. No fade whatsoever, even with regular Fiat brake fluid. Best moment track-wise however was clipping the inside curb in the lefthander between Rivage and Pouhon, getting the car in a 100m quite sideways drift doing 80. The missus only commented 'I'd didn't actually enjoy that'.
Purple jumpers and t-shirts were handed out on friday evening in an attempt to please proccy
- thanks to all who were wearing them during he weekend! T-shirts that is, jumpers were safely kept in the cars with temps hitting 30 the saturday.
And thanks to the French who organised a lovely dinner the saturday evening.
Wooh, what a weekend. Tired! Thanks all for coming over, thouroughly enjoyed each and every minute of the weekend.

Well me and my mate jonny have made out to or hotel in germany, ready for some alpine posses over the next couple of days!
Kayjay - nice to meet you and sorry my friend, jonny, freaked your daughter out so much during our Belgian Chinese dinner!
Once again it was an awesome weekend, with scorching weather both days! The highlight of my time on track was managing to melt my rear tyres this morning! Never done that before! (the ride in Joe's car was pretty cool too, I suppose!
)
right, this is taking ages to type on my phone, so thanks to everyone that turned up to make it a great a weekend, and a special mention to all the happy campers!
Ps. I'm never sleeping in a tent again. Ever.

Back home from a great weekend here as well! It was nice to see the people from last year, and met a lot of new people as well
Jeffrey's 16VT came home safe, but wouldn't hit 3 bar oil pressure on full boost anymore after cooking the 10W40 Elf oil on saterday's session at 140 degrees. We cut out after 3 laps on the session this morning. Were going to change oil to a bit thicker type and look for a new oil coiler and see what happens then.
Thanks everybody for the fantastic weekend!

Back in once piece - we hade some "eventful" Belgium rain on the way home!!!
What can I say? It was an absolutly fantastic weekend!
We arrived on the friday pretty early, had a nice long drive to Belgium, no traffic, open roads and the weather was amazing. Upon arrival we all settled in and the evenings events involved going out for a meal followed my a healthy drinking session in the hotel bar
Day one at SPA
We all got up nice and early and made our way to the track. After filling out all of the paper work and setting up the club stand we were ready!
The oganisers asked me to put my coupe on display for an hour and do an interview about the club and the car which was pretty cool!
GIGGADY
This was my first proper track day/weekend (curborough doesnt really count)
I had signed up to do an hour long parade session. The minute your come out of the pits you hit eau rouge. WOW! you really dont realise how steep it is until your actually on there! I did a few slow laps and then started to get more and more confident.
I was on a high after the parade lap - then it was time for the Fiat Coupe Club Session! 30 mins of unrestricted track time. All im going to say is when we all came off the track EVERYONE had the biggest grin on their faces! Amazing is pretty much how I can sum it up!
Day two was a bit rushed in the morning, we needed to be ready at the track for 9am to do our coupe session. We all managed to get there just in time. The second (and for me final) session of the day was the best of all. Everyone was confident with the track and we all had some great fun!
It was great to see some many familiar faces there and also some new ones! The weekend was a complete sucess. Those of you who were in two minds this year, you really have to come! Even if its just as a passenger!
I will get some photos and videos up in the next few days!

Well that was truly an awesome weekend. The beers, the company, the cars, and of course that track.
I actually started to make myself travel sick on the Sunday morning, drifting the old girl at 90+ through the bends, what an incredible experience driving that track is.
It was great to discuss the finer points of astro-physics
with the usual bunch of buddies, and it was great to meet some new people as well.
And not a single ginger gag or mickey take all weekend

Still grinning ear to ear.. my 2nd year at Spa and was even better than last year.

just wanted to say thank you to all those involved in such a great weekend from all the nations that were there; the brits in big numbers, the french lads in big numbers, the dutch, the greek lads who had a weeks' journey to get there and it was a stunning success as you'll ever get. sorry the french lads had a couple of car-casualties though, including one fire
finally a massive thanks from me to Petep, Mario, Paul, Theresa for the uk organisation and for making it such a smooth and pleasant experience. a special thanks from me to Klaas, Joke and Lene for contributing so much. That baby is beautiful and a real credit to her parents. Klass encouraged me during the dark times with my car and was an instrumental reason for me being there - thanks mate!
and the rest of you? brilliant, bring it on next year. if there's a better forum and community of people than this i've yet to find who they might be.
see you next year folks!!!

I finally got home about two and a half hours ago.
What a brilliant few days!
Thanks to everyone who was there for making the trip fun and to Pete for sorting us UK lot out.
Thanks too to porkypaul for driving my car to and from the track on the village roads and saved my car being written off by me pulling out in front of people
My first 'proper' track day as a driver (except for Curburough). I enjoyed Sundays session more, as I gained a little more confidence.
The foreign Coupe drivers are very fast/mad
and I'd like to thank the owner of the white one who looked like he was really going for it when he came up behind me. I panicked a bit, indicated and moved over to what was probably his racing line, but he still gave me the thumbs up to say thanks for moving over
I think most people knew to stay away from me though
Basically, thanks to everyone
I hope everyone has and does get home safely

What a weekend it was
First time for me at Spa, so a little apprehensive about the whole thing if I'm honest, plus first time for both me and my co pilot Andrew on a track, so we were not exactly too sure of ourselves as we rolled out of the pits heading towards Eau Rouge!!!
But, had a fantastic time, the hotel we stayed in was fantastic, as was the Belgian beer (Kriek - mmmmmmm), Beligan totty was pretty unbelievable as well - and Sunday night I did my best to improve Anglo/Belgian relations as best I could... Giggady
Great to see so many Coupe's, especially some lovely 16NA's, and great to meet so many of you, sorry if I got in your way, or if i didnt get a chance to say hello though.
My Coupe, well it performed very well (as a car), not as well on the track however.
After a few laps, the standard pads, on drilled and grooved disks, were seriously overheating, and well, not really working!
A lesson learned me thinks.
I have some awesome pictures which i shall share as soon as I get them all up loaded, including one of me sitting in the yellow Countach!!
Many thanks to whoever took this one though

Got back this afternoon from Bruges where Dad and I stayed for 2 nights following Spa. It's been an absolutely fantastic weekend with the cars followed by the fantastic city of Bruges.
I participated in the 'Rallye Ballade' (Tourist rarally) on Saturday afternoon at Spa, which I have to say was excellent. We coverered almost 90 miles on the fantastic twisty roads around the circuit, in the company of other cars from the show. It was great to see cars such as an Alfa Guilia, Fiat 126, Ferrari 512BB and Lambo Gallardo all being hustled through the countryside
Thoroughly recommended!
Quickly after that was my first ever track session. That was also amazing, but also amazingly hard work for me and the car. I went round at a pace which felt fast to me, but was actually very slow because I didn't want risk my daily car with standard suspension, road tyres and fast-road brakes... I didn't mind being overtaken by everyone. The tyres were a bit melted afterwards, so I was glad I didn't push them any harder really. The brakes worked well though, with red-stuff pads and Castrol SRF fluid proving to be worthwhile additions. I video'd the morning session on Sunday from in the car so I will try to upload that soon.
I'll definitely go back next year, but I won't take the Coupe. I should have my super-Cinquecento running before long which will be my track animal
Many thanks to Pete and the others for the organisation, because it was brilliant. Thanks to Marcouzze for organising the buffet meal on Saturday night, which was good fun also. It was a great weekend spent driving fast and drinking lots of beer with great people. Was good to meet up with Trev & Adam et al in Bruges last night too - thanks for a good time guys.
Photos and video to follow,
James

Don't think I stopped laughing for whole 4 days away! What a weekend.
Thanks to everyone who helped organise this, will be there next year for sure as will my brother (Paul) who should be in a coupe by then.
The track was just stunning, I'm in love with it. Eau rouge is genius peice of tarmac, I'm happy with a 110mph entrance speed into it with my standard suspentions setup, although I did see too much of the curb at the top of the hill
It was also good mixing it up with the lambp's and ferrari's among others on the grand parade as long as you didn't get stuck behind the psyhco pace car driver in the fiat 500
Was great to meet everyone old and new and sorry if I didn't get round to everybody!
I managed to get very drunk indeed on the firday night thanks to magoo and his power wine (thanks magoo
) The worst part was blowing my ring up at 3am next to the tent of a church of england priest who was camping next to us
Got back at 4am after a massive slog trying to get back to the euro tunnel.
Some of you may of met my mate 'Nat' who was in convoy with us for the trip over (Fiat punto)
Well his car's alternator was on its way out and finally gave up on the motorway on the way back in Belgium. One of the funniest things I've ever seen is him kangerooing down the hard shoulder of the A601 at 20mph holding his hand out of the window doing a whipping action and pretending he's on a horse, I later found out he was trying to tell me to get back because he thought his car was gonna blow up
We finally came to rest on an nondescript section of
motorway where we had to wait for resue for 4 hrs after being told only one. His car was then taken to a
garage in the middle of nowhere.
The car was prenounced dead at the scene and we left it there in favor of a hire car to get back on time for the train. The only problem was the hire car was in Leige so we had to trek back there to pick it up. We packed up his car with all the stuff we didn't need like stinking sleeping bags, tents, camping stoves and off we went.
By the time we arrived in Leige though time wasn't on our side and they company was waiting for a fax to come through from the RAC so we decided in the end to all jump in the coop and made the rest of the journey in 2 hrs
We managed to book the last train back at 23.50...... I could go on
Pics and vids to come soon!
