Welsh coupe meeting

Welsh coupe meeting - 12/01/2013 13:04

Alright everyone. I'm hoping to arrange a meet anywhere in Wales? Ideas, locations, dates and most of all Coupes.

There has been many successful meets in the past in Wales and hope we can keep up the coupe numbers in Wales.

Open to suggestion so please show an interest and any ideas ect.

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 12/01/2013 13:22

Time, location and weather dependant I may well be up for this. I do have some work to do to get my coupe back on the road and in fine fettle, but once this is done I'm keen to get to some meets.

It's a bit of a treck from here, but I reckon it could be worth it. I don't know very much about the area, so will not try to suggest any locations/routes, but I gather there are some very nice roads in the area (Brecons, etc), which are not far over 'the bridge' for those potentially coming in from outside the area.

I'll keep an eye on this thread. Nice one Craig! smile

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 12/01/2013 17:40

I'd be up for a jaunt over the bridge. Maybe a few other Bristol based coopists will too.

Hmm, with a clever bit of timing I could pick my car up from you Joe, with a nice new clutch and head on to this meet. Doubt it would work out, but it's a thought at least. smile

I'm up for this date dependant of course, last meet I attended was back in '09, so about time...... smile

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 13/01/2013 17:19

Count me in as long as it's not for a month or so as my car is not quite finished.

Maybe meet near Cardiff and head up to Brecon or Abergavenny for lunch.....Some lovely roads around there. Sometimes the sheep line the verges like spectators on an 80's rally stage laugh

I think this would be a good idea, what about the evo triangle or the Dams, these would look good as coupe photos

Count me in too please smile

Suggestion for a venue to meet! How about the Lamb and Flag pub just outside Abergavenny. Nice big car park and the food is supposed to be good too:

Lamb & Flag, Llanwenarth, Abergavenny, Gwent. NP7 7EW

http://www.lambflag.co.uk/contact-us

We could carry on up to the Brecon Beacons afterwards for a spin smile

I can just imagine the baa...d conversation laugh

Might be up for this; my road trip last autumn up in the Brecons was lovely, and there were some spectacular driving roads. Not ideal for speeding though as domestic creatures tend to be in the middle of the road just around the next corner (Porky's family??) wink

So am I smile

I am flexible on dates and venue. Having said that, I do think Brecon would be a good choice. Lovely roads from all directions, and plenty of car parks / pubs to meet up.

And there would be the novelty value of driving slowly through the small town centre in convoy laugh

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 07/02/2013 18:09

Sounds good to me also - date dependant as always!

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 07/02/2013 20:05

For me it depends whether I've have got around to having a new clutch fitted and a slight smoking issue (the coupe, not me) diagnosed and sorted.

If that has been done, then I'd certainly be up for making the trip over the bridge. Brecon and the surrounding area sounds good.

I was going to suggest april 20th/21st...
Purely because it gives plenty of time for people to sort their cars(myself included) and loads of time to see if they can 'fit it in'/arrange cover for work etc etc.
Above all else...the weather should be looking up by then, and we need as much help with that as possible in wales tongue
This an option?

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 07/02/2013 22:48

Personally, later in the spring would be better. Gives me a fighting chance of getting the essential work done on the car. Also, maybe some better weather - although obviously no guarantee! wobble

If some of you guys do go on a March run, you could treat it as a reccie and suss out the best roads for another jolly later in the year, when slackers like myself can join in! tongue

Hi Dave. Is your beast back from it's little stay with Leighton then? Is it what you hoped for and more? driving

PS - any other coopsters from down this neck of the woods want to make a mini convoy over?

Not quite Pete. Leighton is running the new engine in ahead of getting the mapping sorted. After that he is a few cosmetic jobs left on the list.

We are nearly there though and I am looking forward to driving the finished article laugh

There were a few suggestions earlier in the thread of the evo triangle or the dams and didn't you mention a pub somewhere? I'm happy for any of them.Shall we go with the pub? Where could go on to/from that's in the vacinity?

Hows about we see who's coming, where they're coming from then find a venue somewhere in the middle smile

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 12/02/2013 20:13

If I make it, then I'd be heading up from Devon and over the bridge. I wouldn't expect the location to be skewed on my behalf, but would suggest something not too far west would appeal to more. I'm all for something in the Brecons area.
Posted By: jon13

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 12/02/2013 20:24

Coming over the bridge too..Was going to suggest those that are also doing so meet at the services just before the bridge..then convoy over..

21st April 2013

Nice one guys! Nice list coming along here cool !

Right then.My plan/suggestion after checking routeplanner is that,as mentioned above, we meet at Magor Services on the WESTBOUND side at 10/10:15am.Due to the fact it seems the majority are closer to there..
Perhaps then head off after the introductions etc at about 11am heading for the Lamb flag pub where we can meet with others who are closer to there than Magor for a bit of lunch and to talk cars etc etc...

Then perhaps head off to the Black Mountain Pass for those who are interested.Starting at Llandovery/Llangadog and heading South to Swansea and pick up the M4.Find a services and say goodbye etc then head home?
Sound good? I'll update with a few maps in a sec...

Jon

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 10/04/2013 22:49

Links fixed laugh

Magor Services to the Lamb Flag Pub wave driving

26.1 miles

Lamb Flag to LLandovery wave beer driving

39.2 miles

Llandovery to Pontardawe (Black Mountain Pass) driving bye

25.4 miles

Total mileage from Magor services to Pontardawe: 90.7 miles

Obviously there will be more mileage for you from travelling to and from the meeting/end points...
Can't wait for this.Feel free to bring friends etc if they fancy joining us..

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 12/04/2013 12:25

If I make it I will meet you guys at Magor services, although I think I'm getting cold feet now. I've totted up the mileage to and from and the meet/drive distance and I'm getting 317 miles total. That's about £80 in fuel!! I might have to sort something out a bit more local to me sometime.

I know, I know. If it's a nice sunny warm weekend and I've had the coupe out on the Saturday, then I may come. If it's wet and 'orible, then probably not.

It sounds like the weather is going to be kind and hopefully the Sunday roast is a good one! I’ll not be there to find out though unfortunately - just too many other things to do over the weekend. I want to see some photos of the antics though, so I’ll be keeping an eye on this thread! To those who are going, enjoy it!

They do a Sunday roast, plus an add-on menu. Veggie options also available. Parking is ok, but over-spill onto side road if we have to. Can we make it there for 12 noon if possible so they can fit us all in? If people can let me know by Friday eve, then I'll confirm final numbers.

Booked in the name of Griffiths if you get there before me.

Cheers

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 19/04/2013 13:19

So we have 17 so far.

Hopefully we will get a few more responses before Sunday.

I will wait until 6pm Sat, then make the final booking.

I would expect we will get a max of 8 more people, so 25 total.

Weather is mixed, but hopefully some sun for photos.

Thought I'd solved my battery drain issues by leaving the interior lights fuse out.

Apparently not. Went to start the coupe today and it is dead again. I'll get the battery on charge tonight and a meter on it tomorrow, could be the battery has had it.

I still plan on being there Sunday, so long as I'm confident I can start the car to get home again... could always leave the jump leads in the boot :-)

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 22/04/2013 20:00

What a fab day out, and a great bunch of people too. I think we turned quite a few heads driving through Abergavenny town centre with the coups looking very cool and sounding so good.

Round of applause for those tractor drivers, in those lanes on the way to Abergavenny, who were kind enough to pull over in the lay-bys for us all to get past.

Great pub meal, even though it took a while for them to serve the meals, but I thought the food was very good and a fab drive afterwards to Brecon and down to Merthyr. Fab roads and thanks again to Alex for taking his RS. Shame he didn't drive a bit faster though!!....and that red coup of DC's is b***dy quick smile

Hope we can all meet up again soon, maybe over the English side of the Severn bridge next time, and hope to have our coup back on the road again as soon as Phill and Mark at AJ Auto Repairs in Newport have finished giving it some TLC smile

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 23/04/2013 18:39

There have been a few problems at Cheddar Gorge in the past with big Pistonheads meets, but that was mainly due to taking up too many parking spaces and a few idiots showing off and ruining it for everyone else.

Of course an FCCUK meet would be far more civilised, respectful to others and significantly less cars, so unlikely to be any problems.

I'm definitely up for this. Perhaps it's time for a new thread.

There was talk of something this side of the bridge, maybe Cheddar Gorge and the Mendips. Nothing more said since though. Could be good though.

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 07/08/2013 11:47

Who fancies another Welsh meet?

I thought we could include Cardiff Bay for some great photos of the Coupes against the city backdrop. Then up the link road into the Vale of Glamorgan, then up towards Neath towards Brynamman.... to a truly amazing twisty road over the mountain (A4069) down to Llandovery for a cuppa in the Cafe... then back towards Brecon where people can head off back home or loop back to Cardiff.

Any takers?

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 12/03/2014 12:28

Hi Jon
I hopefully can make it along, depending on date and location. Lets see what other interest there is.
How about the Forest of Dean, say using the FoD Preservation railway as a meeting point, as it has a cafe and large car park?

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 12/03/2014 19:25

Yeah I'm up for that.

Any dates in mind??

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 12/03/2014 19:49

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 20/03/2014 22:46

I'd be up for a Welsh meet, time & date dependent....can't make Castlecombe though.
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 01/04/2014 22:22

Well I'm hoping to take delivery of my new 20VT on Saturday so there will definitely by at least one Fiat Coupe at Castle Coombe on 26 April. Either mine or Andrews

Another option would be a quick meet at Magor Services on the M4.....

Or as Gripped suggested, Cardiff Bay??

How about Saturday 3rd or Sunday 4th of MAY and we could arrange something a bit more formal over a cup of coffee for a proper big meet in the summer!

smile

Re: Welsh coupe meeting - 01/04/2014 22:35

Dear all,

After several months of scrimping and saving I am about to make the call to Leighton to book it in with him so he can (hopefully) get the ole coup back up and running for the Spring smile

Does anyone fancy meeting up in the South Wales area in March for a quick spin?
