Big SE summer meet - 1st July

Must be about time for a SE meet with a good turnout, so as to not be shown up by those Northern types

Thinking either June/July and probably a Sunday as this seems to be better for most people judging on past experience...

Location wise, thinking the Kent/Essex side so as to maximise turnout from the Essex boys and gals, and close to the M25 to make it easier for the Surrey and N London peeps

Bluewater has worked well in the past and also means that partners and kids can come along and shop etc while tyres are kicked in the carpark

Possible dates (Sundays)that I can make:

24 June
1 July
15 July
22 July
29 July

So who's interested and if anyone knows of a better venue that way (e.g. a pub with a good garden and carpark), then just holler

If we go for a summer meet then a pub would be better than Bluewater IMO. We must be able to find one out that way a little bit.

But its a yay from me, I can't do the 15th as I will be cycling to Hove (for some daft reason )

I'd be up for coming along to this as well, and maybe even bringing a few of the other guys from the South . I've voted for the 24th June, but could probably make the 1st July as well. I would much prefer it not being at Bluewater, as an hour and a half drive deserves a nice pub, not a modern shopping experience !

The 1st is ok with me as well, as for a venue haw about blue water or lake side. There is all ways the strip at south end, or the festival leisure park at Basildon just off the a127 theirs pubs, clubs and bowling there

We only want to go a little bit in to kent / essex, not full on in the middle some of us get nose bleeds if we travel too far from surrey

I'm going to try and make this meet although it's between holidays. The Grasshopper just west of Westerham on the A25 is large and has a massive car park. It would be a good idea to contact them first as they do host other events on Sundays, especially car club meets. The carpark is that big though, it could possibly be host to two events if necessary.

It's on the calendar for the 1st, so barring anything unforeseen, I'll be there .

OMG I remember the Grasshopper...many a teenage drunken night out I guess it is the first one, a big place

...certainly the White Hart in Brasted is an option, it does have a decent carpark

I didn't known there were two in the area. It's the one on the left driving towards Westerham from Godstone/Oxted in an easterly direction. Im told it's famous for it's midweek singles club, definitely not my scene.

The grasshopper inn is the pub i was thinking about!!

HUGE car park and some lovely roads nearby.

The car park at the White hart is not that big, it is pretty much always busy and Brasted is a bit of a pain to get through. The Grasshopper has a car park 4 times or more the size of the white hart. And as said above, easy access. Being a local boy, I would say the Big grasshopper is a much better bet

Cool...Jim - if you can check out the grasshopper and are happy, let's go for that. Perhaps book us in for say 30 cars?

Just a suggestion

Perhaps it would be polite if we were to contact the Grasshopper and inform them of our intention to use their car park. It looks like we are going to have a large attendance and this will take up quite a lot of space in their carpark. Being a Sunday they may frown on us if we just turn up, thinking that we may harm their trading.

When I attended a Yorkshire meet a few years back we met in a pub car park. The management became concerned and came out to inform us that if we were not there as customers they would like us to leave. The situation was eased when we explained we were going to come inside for a drink

I would be prepared to book a table for lunch as I'm sure would others, that may ease such a request.

OK then, i have spoken to the grasshopper, they will be happy to accept us, a few ground rules:

No donuts in the car park (sorry Stan )
No revving of engines.
No high speed drive pasts.
etc, etc

If one person does something, we will all be asked to leave.

The car park is very big and he has asked if we can all park down the bottom of the car park, to allow other customers the rest. The pub opens at 11am, food is served from midday and is a carvery and normal restaurant, but he cannot reserve places as the pub gets very busy.

I will talk to the dentman next

Painting in the open is incredibly difficult due to dust and wind, etc, unless he is planning on putting a tent up and he will also need power to work and if we are going as far as generators and tents, it will really need to approved by the pub and I would be suprised if they agree to all that. Don't forget the pub is still open to the general public.

I am not saying its impossible, but the pub will need to be told.

All attending, please bear in mind that a concentrated group of Fiat Coupes does attract attention, as not to portray a bad light on the club can all be aware of the public eye and keep the following under control and/or in a respectable, law abiding manner - speed runs, dump valve blowing contests, boost controllers max setting, nitrous, front wheel donuts, ¼ sprints, drag racing, antagonising far eastern/German/British car makes to a minimum. Most of all have a good day and enjoy.

Also, I just wanted to add on to Hannys post earlier on in the thread. As well as being sensible and respectful to other road users. Don't forget some of the recent stories on the web / newspapers, etc. It would seem that maybe the police monitor various forums and websites to gain information, as proved by the chap in the VX220 recently who got knabbed speeding via a video he had posted.

Not that I am sure any coop owner would ever think of speeding or driving in a manner that may be against the law, but just be careful.

A convoy of one car will attract attention to itself, simply by the nature of what it is, so again just be careful.

We haven't had a coop meet this big for a long time, possibly in the south ever, lets not have it ruined by anything

Right, just spoke to pub again, after takling to them last time, they had no record of me or any details. So I have left more details, again they stressed and so do I and I sure so does FCCUK, no racing, donuts, wheels spins, excessive dumps. If we use the end / bottom of the car park the chances are we can all park together and will not be disturbed by mere mortals in their Mundanos.

Don't forget umbrellas, cameras and loose change for the organisers beer fund.

Shame about the weather, but thats the trouble with doing a meet in the middle of the summer, you can't guarantee anything, well except the rain!

Coupe paranoia! The dodgy road surface made me think I had a puncture so I pulled over onto the hard shoulder (smiling wryly at the irony of just having handed over my spare tyres). Fortunately it was nothing, but figuring there was no way I would catch up without very fruity speeds, I took it gently home (and probably still got there before the rest of you!)

This is the first meet we have been to so I have to admit, we did feel a little out of place at first. It was great to see so many coops tho! I counted 26 at the end, including one lady who just turned up because her husband drove past and told her that there was a load of coupe's at the pub. She drove down to see what it was all about. She had never heard of the club before so we spread the word

We left earlier than expected cos of the rain and things to do at home but it was good to put a face to at least a couple of names.

Good venue and good food too. Kept the kids quiet for half an hour anyway Well done for organising it.

p.s. saw some good FCCUK stickers in some cars but can't find a link to buy them anywhere. Any idea's?

As the Man said above BIG thanks must go to Jim and Vicks for organising this meet. Great place and good food was just a pitty about the rain in the middle of the meet.

Would appear it was right to request that everyone were on their best behaviour too. There were quite a few police persons on patroll today, even popping into the car park early on.

If you're asking about me and Ken, well Ken was just egging me on, going faster and faster and I had to keep up with him to let him know about the steam procession following him

Still when we were both tearing up the slip road to the A217, we decided to slow down as we were both about to pass a police car at least 71 mph

And I think the alfa showed up for whats it should be doing, a tad slower than Kenno, but we still held our ground....

I'm glad I popped along, though I think I want a Coupe again for a second car now.

Good venue, good roast (nearly as good as the one I had for my tea :s) and a brisk convoy around the M25 and down the M3, the poor little Skoda struggled to keep up - looked like you picked up another sprint blue at the front.

And Truffle, I thought you were 'conserving petrol' yesterday

Truffle was there I did not see anyone fitting strut braces So many faces that it was hard to meet everyone, especially as we were sheltering from the rain on and off. Also puting names to forum names is never easy.

Maybe we should all wear badges next time

A25 being closed was a pain in the arse, I nearly didnt have a Coupe to turn up in after going down some of the smallest, windest roads i've ever been down!

Special thanks to the guy with the Diagnostic reader (Highway Man?) who checked my car found a code error for temp switch and found out I only have 56% of full throttle!

My car was the only steel grey 20vt there by the way

Yes they do - I think Truffle was ok in the SPECS bit though, it was afterwards he nipped in front of a biddy in a Vectra who spent the next 15 miles in Lane 3.

Phil and Ady - your Coupes sounded great, before they got so far ahead I couldn't hear them anymore Still, I was getting 50+mpg even at the rate I was going past Fleet

Yep thats why us 3 and i kept our speeds down and watched truffle speed off

And i recon i was getting <15mpg
