FCCUK mtb meeting, any interest?

FCCUK mtb meeting, any interest? - 26/07/2010 12:05

I know there are a few people on here who are into their cycling as the "what bike rack" thread comes up fairly frequently.

Just wondering if anyone would be up for a FCCUK meet involving a bit of a pedal somewhere. I live at the foot of the Malverns which is pretty central and would happily act as a guide but maybe heading to one of the Welsh trail centres might be more of an attractive idea for some? I know Brechfa is supposed to be fantastic, as is Nant-yr arian, and of course Coed y brenin.

Anyways, just an idea - would like to hear some feedback. I know most people who ride are happy to travel for a good day out!

Cheers
James

I'd have been up for this but it's probably a bit too much of a trek for me, depending on where your heading.
If you ever fancy riding up this way Kirroughtree is amazing, as is a lot of stuff at Nevis Range near Ft William.

What sort of trails are you into & what bikes have you got & is it possible to get a bike in the back seats of a coupe? Never been keen on bike racks!

Hi James, I'm up for a bit of a ride.

I recently got my bike back up and running and to celebrate I went to the DH runs at Cannock Chase. Great fun but I was more than a little rusty smile

Paul, if I was coming up that far I'd be bringing my downhill bike and making the most of the cable car and world cup track!

I've ridden downhill for years but recently moved to the the Malverns and have gotten into riding a bit of XC, well my version of XC anyway (find the easiest climbs to the top of the best dh runs).

Currently in the shed/office there's a Balfa BB7 and for XC, a Specialized Pitch so I can get up the hills as well as down them. There is also a road bike but if anyone asks its not mine wink What about you?

You can fit two dh bikes on the the back seat of the Coupe no problems. I used to put two wheels in the boot and two on the back seats with the frames. Also tried the bike rack option but never really liked it with heavy bikes, would have thought it'd be fine with XC bikes though (wheels removed).

Owain, I've heard good things about Cannock but never been up there. Worth a trip?

Good choice, the new specialised bikes are great! Ive got a Stumpjumper FSR Expert as my main bike and a '96 Kona Cinder Cone to remind me how much more you can get away with on a full suss bike!
I've only ever ridden XC, but i used to do the DH track at Ft William on my XC bikes as i grew up there and used to spend all my time up there. I used to race XC when i was still in high school but those days are long gone, i did a round of the scottish championships last year and it nearly finished me off!!
Never had a road bike though, firmly disapprove of them crazy

Sorry andre, not sure I get you...

Have to agree Paul, this years Specialized range has a good selection of bikes. Was in two minds about selling my Santa Cruz to get the Pitch but haven't room for any more bikes. The Pitch is a lot of fun, was originally after something a bit more XC orientated but was banned by the guy in the local shop as he said I'd break it - he builds my wheels for my dh bike so knows I destroy stuff wink

As for the road bike - it was salvaged from a mates Grandads shed, it looked older than it was so thought it might be worth a tidy up. Sat in my shed in bits since then.

I've only been to Cannock once so I didn't see much of what it has to offer. I think it's worth a trip if you're planning on making a day of it. I'm going to try one of the loop XC tracks next time I go.

Possibly I have an XC bike any idea of dates?

Cannock could be a possible venue then or maybe get it checked out 1st. Guess it depends where people are coming from.

As for a date, any weekend in September is good for me at the moment.

If you can think of somewhere better/more central to people then that would be an option, no venue decided on at the moment.

Haven't ridden street in years and not the worlds most gifted Dj rider!

Yes it is! Bloody hard work mind you. I almost died of fatigue last time I was there laugh

I also ride downhill. I've got a custom built Kona Stinky but I've not ridden the beast for a couple of years.

I'd be keen for something in September if this is still on. James, what have you got around you in the Malverns?
