Midlands meet - 26/11/2010 18:57
Need some ideas then,
Apparently were letting the rest of the country down by not organising any.
Jan/Feb time would be good
So whos with me.

Theresa.
It will be next year now, early on once i have my car back as i think Flea will probably have it over Christmas.
Worst comes to worst i might have to show up in the civic type R.
Clio's welcome.Doenst have to be a coupe only meet.
Plans are a meet somewhere,
Some snap,
Maybe a social event
and then a drive followed by a good scatter before the cops get there

Last time we all ended up in Pizza hut.,but if you fancy some cheap snap theres a 2 for 1 pub which gets good reviews.
Light was fading but the pictures came out great.
Just viewed the entire meet and nearly all those cars have been broken for spares including Jamiepm's
And a keen eye also saw a well known car.A Fiat Bravo Turbo.

I'm on track (not off the track Dan like at the AGM

Mr T,
hope you do a better navigating job getting Dan round the track than my job at finding his house last month (just ask him
).
5th/6th Feb sounds great provided my machines are still both working! Might even pop into Silverstone if they take spectators,

If the meet is having a drive out somewhere, maybe it could have a stop at Silverstone to cheer us on
(If they allow spectators that is?)

Tim - I shudder to think how many notes you've lined JBT's pocket with, but your best investement would be £50 on a sat nav!!
I thought the plan for the meet was a few drinks Saturday night, and a drive somewhere on Sunday?
Spectators will be welcome at Silverstone if anyone wants to come down, or like Tim, en route!

Re: Midlands meet - 22/12/2010 19:21
John will need a pair of Blackadder's britches to hold the notes from the work already done, and a large codpiece to hold the remainder when I pay him for the Moon clutch
. I am overcoming my irrational grey haired fear of things technological - I now have a widget and a boost gauge
.
I would hope that I can find a large race track in Northamptonshire and an enormous airfield afterwards without GPS - I will need to consult the wallet goblin after XMas before indulging in a satnav. Any ideas as to which one to buy (or do I need to open a new thread)?
New thread about to be opened anyway

Postcodes:
JBT's garage LE12 9DN
Premier Inn, East Midlands Airport: DE74 2TQ
Donington Park: DE74 2RP
The Ragley Boat Stop: DE73 7FY
The plan is to meet up for drinks Saturday night for some of us, with the main meet being on Sunday 6th February.
Not sure what time I'm leaving home on Saturday, but I'll probably be popping to JBT's garage in the afternoon before I go to find the hotel.
Anyone that needs mine or JBT's phone number, pm me.
On Sunday, the plan is to meet at JBT's garage at 10am or wait until 10.30am and meet at Donington Park.
Set off from Donington park around 11.30am and head for the aeroplane graveyard.
Go for a Sunday drive out, then head for The Ragley Boat pub for food around 2pm ish.
I've spoken to Donington Park Museum and they are open next Sunday.
He couldn't guarantee the cafe would be open, but said it has been open so far.

Well proccy has his kids until 2pm and when I got home earlier, I found that one of my fence panels has broken and come out of its slots
We have extremely strong winds here at the moment.
I've been outside until 12.40 am trying to sort it, but I can't, so will have to try and do it later, when the wind dies down a bit and before I meet you
Can we make it 2.30 pm? Just gives me an extra half an hour to get my fencing sorted before I leave.

The chaps name is Johnny who's a good friend of mine,.
Absolutely gutted for him, bloody heartbreaking the mess its made to the car.
Well done Johnny for keeping control of the car at that speed, and although its no consolation the main thing is that your okay.
Keep your chin up pal and i will see you tomorrow to assess the damage.
As above yes my gearbox failed again in dramatic style just coming off the bypass.
Not happy.
Thanks to Paul,Proccy, Theresa and all for the help towards this meet.
Had a great night out on the town on Saturday but still paying for it today, and i know Matt was
.
Nice seeing the distance was travelled by you all,London,Wales,B,ham,Bristol,Barnsley, and Leeds all made the trip.
Not the best of days under the circumstances but was definitely memorable.
See you all at the next meet.

Re: Midlands meet - 06/02/2011 18:31

Upload them to your Photobucket account, hover over the photo you want to post and it will come up with a list of options.
Copy the code from the one that says direct link.
Then click the fourth symbol along,(looks like a tv screen/window) on your reply box for the forum.
It will come up with the words 'image popper'.
Click on that and a box will appear. Paste your copied code into that and the photo should appear.
To check, go to 'preview post', before you click reply.

great meet but should have known the flavour of the day when JBT's gearbox spread itself all over the road. then that lad locked his keys in his car, Reub is/was stuck on the m42 and to cap it all poor Johnny had his bonnet blow up in his face, breaking the screen, sunroof and bonnet.
lovely to meet you all, hope to again soon but without the attrition rate we saw today

! Although interrupted by a few disasters, it was well-organised and well attended. Many thanks JBT, especially from those who benefited from your expertise during the day (myself included). Thanks also to Porkypaul for (almost) arranging a beautifully colour-coordinated line of Coupes at Donington; he really needed a sheepdog!
The poor Sprinty and JBT's beast apart, I hope everyone got home safely, and see you again soon.

I still have a sore neck and a large bump, but im fine.Having a look with JBT earlier and it seems the slam panel/bonnet locater catch was not in the correct place, hence why this happened...i had just changed into 4th after 3rd gear 7k...when it flew up.Hopefully the roof can be sorted if not i will swap the running gear onto my black one.Sorry to hold people up on the A6.A least it wasnt just me with problems that day.lol

Hi Jonny
Sorry to see you Sprinty that way, glad your otherwise generally ok. Hope you get the Sprinty back to health, you sure have a Coupe with a story to tell mate.
Wasn't that long ago I was bombing down the A38 and noticed the bonnet moving up and down a bit, pulled over when I could and put it down properly, guess I was lucky.
Sorry I missed the meet all.

Re: Midlands meet - 07/02/2011 22:00
Well, the morning after the night before and here's the damage to johnnys car.
luckily hes alot more chirpy today and the lump on his head is shrinking.
Unfortunately its kinked the roof just above the rear 1/4 windows.
Also the front of the roof is noticeably down and the doors aren't shutting as they should.
So hes coming over to tomorrow to swap over the bonnet and the front panels.
Looking further into this it appears the car has previously suffered a frontal impact and the slam panel is noticeably out of alignment which is obviously why the bonnet isn't shutting correctly.
SO its all going to be replaced to avoid any future issues.
Great determination for sticking with the car pal.
See you bright and early tomorrow.

Repairing it?It was the creases by the rear windows that i thought might be the crucial bit. Also if it is being sorted i have a sunroof you can have?

Nice one lads for the support,i bought a decent black 20vt 3 months ago, took it for mot, passed drove 1mile and the engine died....umm nice MOT people drove 18miles in it and killed it...seen the sprinty for sale at a steal and scraped the cash to buy another. Its 65k miles and drives very good, power is good and i kinda love it
so i have to take her to have cosmetic surgery because her heart is beating strongly still...JBT is pretty much on the case with it,but if i need anything i will give you a shout.Nice to meet you all and hopefully next time we will have sunshine and a few more miles driving.
Big hugs to you all!!

Good to see you on here Jonny, but absolutely gutted for you about the car
I'm glad you're ok though
I was the woman in the Sprinty, also with black wheels, parked to the left of you at Donington.
Me and the other Sprinty were right at the back of the pack when your bonnet flew up and when we all pulled over.
After watching Porkypaul for several minutes, directing the traffic to the other lanes, I feared for his safety and after seeing some of the idiotic actions of some drivers, when I got out to try and help, I decided it was best to move along and get out of the way, before another accident happened
I can understand why police tell people to get as far away as possible
Many thanks to Paul for directing the traffic out of the way. He says he does it all the time, but that is one scary job
Well done too Johnny, for managing to keep the car under control while it all happened.
Hope to see you at another meet soon
