Got my car mapped at PT. And here are my results:

http://www.online-presence.co.uk/_coupe/details.php?record=148

I found Rob very helpful as usual and was spot on with his comments. I always get nervous when Rob tells me stuff about my car as they are usually insults \:D But on the day I was surprised for him to say that he actually liked it. He was very impressed with the results for my setup and said “what ever you do don’t change a thing”. I took that as a compliment (well kinda as I can’t stop tinkering). \:D

A first I was a little bit disappointed with the initial result figures as I was expecting about 20BHP more however, looking at the graph I did actually achieve what I set out to do and that was to build a car with very little lag, and great acceleration from low to mid range as I’m never interested in top speed it’s all about the pull through mid acceleration that I like.

After the drive back from PT I was delighted with the power delivery it made. It feels really quick and pulls through the gears very fast with hardly any noticeable lag between changes. I parked it up and waited for a sunny day. After waiting two weeks for a break I finally (Today) got time to take it to a local airstrip to fiddle with it to get a feel for the new re-map. I will at some point write what hell I have been through to even get this far but for now I have kept it short.

I now welcome your positive input and/or criticism. What do you guys think?

Very nice result turboj, the torque is very very nice. I bet it feels very fast on the road. I knew you was running good power with your comments to me \:\)

Would be nice to know how you got that power.

Ash

nice curves J \:\)

interesting to see the max power is so high in the rev range! you are running an RSR aren't you?

Well it sounds like you have achieved what you wanted with good spool and a very strong midrange \:\) All I would say is don't try to push 1.7bar too much at redline (probably drops to around 1.4bar anyway?) as that is seriously choking the turbo especially on the hot side. Your CR of 9.4:1 is very high, even the VAG boys would be impressed \:D

Shouldn´t you get more bhp with higher boost level? For the 1.7 bar run you can see that the torque drops quite fast, do you know why? Can it be that the turbocompressor is not so efficient anymore.

Why did you stop the run with 1.7 bar before 7000 rpm and let the 1.2 bar run go past 7000 rpm?

As I said above Freddan, the turbo is too small to run 1.7bar towards redline, it simply cannot flow the exhaust gasses on the hot side and the compressor will also struggle to maintain the airflow. An extra 40lbs/ft midrange at 1.7bar will certainly be felt but in terms of outright speed then it is no faster than 1.2bar

I had originally planned to run 8.8:1 on my first engine as the forged piston were 8.5:1 so I decked the head and block and didn't really do an accurate cc check as the clown that built my engine didn't have a clue what he was doing. The pistons ended up being too small for the bores and the DTA management was not playing ball.

I pulled that engine out and thought if you wanna do something right you've gotta do it yourself. I was going to do the second build in my mates shed but they my other mate (trickymex) said I might as well build it at his as he all the correct tools so it would save me money having to buy extra tools. I also have his experience to hand as he is very clued up. I got all the bits together and we both built the engine up to the spec I wanted. The new pistons I ordered were in 9:1 and after ccing the head properly this time it worked out to be 9.4:1. Tricky was not happy with the CR and I was getting concerned however I was not prepared to wait for a decompression plate to be made as the head and block had already been machined. Since my turbo was not big and my power aims were low and mid I decided to leave it at 9.4:1 and see how it goes. As I could always change the headgasket at a later stage.

After the running in I took the car to PT for the first mapping session and I was very disappointed as it was really down on power, Rob said that the exhaust system was too restrictive and he didn't like the high CR. See Below:

http://img503.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bravomap1lowresfi9.jpg

I then got a new 3" exhaust system and it made a major difference. The housing at the top of the rev range chokes but I was expecting that otherwise I would have got a RS with .86 or a 2871 but I didn’t want any lag or high BHP.

The CR is high but makes the torque I want and really holds it through the power band, Rob actually thought that he was mapping at GT2871R, when I told him it was an RSR he nearly fell over \:D I asked what would happen if I dropped the CR back to 8.8:1 and he said I would gain about 15 HP but loose torque as it would shift the graph more rightwards, we then both agreed that this map is perfect for what I wanted as if I really wanted more power all I need to do is change the turbo as my engine can easily deal with the increase however driving round with this power band is awesome and I don’t think I will bother changing anything.

Does anyone have any links to other graphs running the RSR?

Have look here at Markus's RSR setup http://www.torquestats.com/Markus

You can see his dyno graph via the link on the page.

While your at it add your car too so you can stack up against all the other coops \:\)

The blue lines are with Nitrous, the black without running 1.7bar like yourself.

I should have one next month, but im not gonna be running anywhere near the same boost as u or markus.

Markus has Cams, Stage 3 headwork and Aquamist over mine. That is a very hard graph to understand. I don't like PTS's graph and there meant not to be accurate what would the PT equivalent be? Do you have any others? I have added my stats to the Hall of Fame. I came in 13th for Torque \:D nearly beating Nigel who has a GT2871R \:o I just want to compare my graph with others to see where their power delivery lies.

Whats your spec and what sort of power are you expecting?

RSR, 3" exhaust, headwork, stnd internals, evo 6 fmic etc etc.

Made 334bhp@1.05 bar on dastek rollers with the gt28r with 308lb/ft at 1.45 bar midrange.

Would be hoping for more torque (10lb/ft extra would be plenty) with more bhp probable although not recommended.

That plot is not very easy to read is it!!!

yours seems to compare quite well considering markus's has stage 3 head work and cams.

Have a look at this

I dont know how to upload excel to a forum so you will have to forgive the picture

I hope you dont mind people but i found your plots and inputted the information from them in to excel

the blue line is TurboJ, the green line is H2per, the red line is markus and the purple line is flea

the information from markus's plot is without NOS as that would just not be fair

Jason set out to build a fast road car engine with power in the rev range that would be used, so he aimed for minimal lag and alot of torque

this graph shows that Jason has done a great job, his car produces more power than any of the others all the way from 2000RPM up to 4700RPM, how often do you use more than that on a road car?? H2pers does produce about 2-3BHP more than Jason from 2500-3000 and gains a little bit after 5500 but looses out in other places, that would be a good close race \:\)

I put Fleas in there just to show that the max BHP figure is great but does not tell the whole story, not to take anything away from your car flea, infact yours is very impressive in its own right

I think thats a great result,
