Hello guys,

As most of you know, things are not going great for my coop - eating coolant, eating oil, bubbles in expansion tank, smokey as hell, slipping clutch and all this after Head Gasket being done...

And as I said in a previous thread:

"I do love that car and willing to do everything to keep her."

I`ve decided to start from scratch!

So instead of opening up the engine again and fixing all that and paying God knows how much... I`ll build my own newish Coupé!

For a start I'll be fitting new re-built engine (witch I`m hoping to get by the end of 2013!.. laugh laugh )

A new or close to new standard turbo witch I`m trying to source out at the moment at a decent price... smile (any recommendations are welcome!)

New standard Valeo clutch kit with a new slave cylinder.

Newish silicone hose kit.

New timing belt kit + water pump will be going in as well, new auxiliary belts, new thermostat.

So my question to you guys is: What else would be good idea/important to change while the engine is out?

Thanks,
Ivan

Good stuff Markiz!!

With the engine out you have a chance to give the engine bay a real clean. If you were having issues with the cooling system I'd have a good look at the radiator as well.

Good luck!

Thanks guys,

The oil cooler and the pipes are the original ones so I`ll be ringing around for new ones! smile

Same goes for the brake lines as I`m sure they`re the original ones so will be changed as well!

And once the engine is out there will be nice clean alright! laugh And that cooling system will be triple checked this time! thumb

Not sure if they're the cheapest but I've seen cores for a standard t28 not far over 300 on eBay (new genuine Garrett). turbo rebuild I think is the user name. They're based in Blackpool. I'll try and post a link.

Get those inner wings and everything else rot proofed while you're at it. You're a brave man but will have a belting motor once finished. Take your time, buy the best or you will regret it. Do it right and another 15 year's of coupe happiness awaits!

Is this the one buddy?

GARRETT T28 TB2810 Chra Core

Would this be proper job? I mean whats the difference between buying a brand new turbo or buying brand new core for the old turbo? Can someone explain please! smile

Thanks!

Will do my best sir! The idea of 15 years of coupe happiness is my stimulus for all this! thumb

That's the one. As far as I know there's no difference, as long as your compressor and turbine housings are in good nick you can put them on the new core and you're away.

I`ll wait until we get the engine out and we`ll have a good look at it. And if the housings are in good condition I just might order that core from ebay and replace it. And that will be me sorted with the turbo issue! smile
