I keep watching the youtube video's by M5board showing organised sprint races from rolling starts. They amaze me with the diversity of machinery and level's of tune on show.

It has led me to wonder how my coupe would do in relation to some of the more standard cars they race down the strip(The highly tuned ones are insane!).

Could I hang with a E60 M5? a Gallardo? a GT3? a 911 Turbo on a roll (at least below 140mph - second gear on)? Great vids smile

I would say not sure about the M5, probably not. All the others, never!
I think you'll have to be well in the 400's bhp for that, more like close to 500 bhp.

Now in the 400+ bhp club!

I don't think you'd be that far of a gt3 from rolling start with 340 bhp..... The gallardo and 911 turbo would destroy you! Once rolling a tuned coup is very fast, the launch is most definitely the weak point!!

368bhp @ 1.5 bar

Interesting smile I quote 340'ish but others have quoted similar engine / turbo spec quote 350+ wink

I think a standard E60 M5 would struggle to pass me to be honest until silly speeds from a rolling start. Would love to play with a GT3. I suspect the Gallardo and 911 Turbo might be a bit "Where did it go?" smile

E60 M5 is faster than you (us ;)) as is the Gallardo. At speeds where the power to weight might help us, they'd both have so much more grip, they'd both just drive away. They do both have to have the nugs ragged out of them though wink

911 GT3... which one? They range from 360-414bhp and I can tell you that 'we' aren't as fast as the 360bhp 996 version. Not much in it from 60-140mph though! wink

911 turbo, again which one? You wouldn't have a prayer against 993-on versions (420bhp+). The older versions might be 'as' fast as us but you'd have to go back a few years to find one slower...

A CLS 55 AMG isn't as quick though tongue

I did a Gallardo with relative ease with my current setup.
Yet last year all i could manage was to stay on there bumpers.

I can just about out-drag an enthusiastically-driven M5/M6 - despite their extra weight, I have a feeling that their aerodynamics partly make up for it.

I *might* hang onto a Porker turbo from about 40 - 120, but I think it would edge away after that.

With anything under 400bhp, you're going to be eaten up and spat out by either.

a 340bhp Coupe is probably closer to an E46 M3 once rolling (and assuming no corners)

A 340 bhp is close to a e46 m3 when rolling are you sure?? Maybe if its boot is stuffed full of lead or the handbrake is on.
My bog standard 20v turbo drives away by a good length or two from my neighbours e46 m3 drop top.
I fitted a Gtec chip last week and its quite funny how easily i over took.
He can drive also.
I did see a video of a LE vs a M5 v10 on youtube previously claiming around 350 and it was very close to a m5 but the passenger got too excited and sounded a tit.

Think you mean the E92 Nigel? The E46 has 340BHP but is 200KG's heavier. 300BHP is all that's needed to out-gun one.

Coopless!
