Having sent Dante20v a message via the forum. That has not been read for weeks now - before this, they were read immediately. I will post this here....

Any response would be nice and not want I want to do. But fair play is needed.

Here's the message I sent...

-----------------

Hello Dante,

The turbo was sent direct to Midland Turbo for inspection and for them to put new seals in.

Unfortunately, they have said this...

"bad news I’m afraid. Your turbo is in a bad way, the Turbine Housing is badly cracked (see photo) so bad that the crack has intersected with the shaft and damaged that as well"

The turbo is essentially finished.

What do you think we should do about this? What are your thoughts?

It must have been running poorly when it was on your car?

Let me know. I can give you the guys number there if you would like to discuss direct with them?

I think we should split the cost Dante! The money I paid you. I am not saying you sold it intentionally knowing it was fudged, but I also don't think I should pay £300.00 for a turbo that is of no use either.

Thoughts?

Phil

What would you do?

Yes I spoke to Midland Turbo about that. They said it could not be seen but the turbo would of been noisy when on the car.....

For clarity you might want to say whether this refers to "dante giacosa" or "dante20v" or someone else, as there's no username "Dante" on here.

This turbo has been floating about for sale for a while, I'm not sure the seller even had it fitted to his car so he wouldn't of been aware of any noise it made.

That aside I feel a refund or at least a partial refund would of been fair, so it's sad to know that no reply was sent after he'd read your pm.

He did not read it, a few days before one was read about receiving the turbo, since then, nothing..... Quiet as a quiet thing. Interesting..

This is why I posted it here. Not read, ignored I feel....

All second hand turbo's have been around a while Joe.

Before Dante, Joe78 had it and before him MarkS. I asked smile

And as for not fitting it to his car, the advert said nothing about that and in fact implied the opposite. So irrelevant.

I have had the turbo remanufactured with new housings (Midland Turbo sourced these and they said they are very difficult to get hold of these days), shaft, the lot, essentially it is now new. with a two year guarantee once fitted.

I don't expect this guy to pay me back, I don't expect anything. But I do feel that a lesson should be learned here by other members. Don't fall into the same scenario when buying turbos from what you think is a trusted guy I suppose! Buyer beware yet again!

its a difficult one I guess as the seller may just turn round and say it was either sold as seen or maybe it isn't even the actual turbo he sold you and that the buyer is lying. No real answer other than being fair, honest and open and hopefully coming to a solution that suits all parties.

Maybe worth buying second hand parts like turbos subject to inspection and once given the thumbs up from the likes of Midland turbo then make payment. This obviously needs the agreement of both seller and buyer but if sent to a specialist then I don't see any problem with trust being an issue.............worth a thought anyway.

Same as RAC inspections. When I bought my audi s4 I had a RAC inspection carried out at a cost of 240 pound. The agreement with the seller was that if the sale didn't go ahead due to something unearthed during the inspection then we would split the cost; as it happens everything was good and I paid the full amount as it was my choice to give me that confidence before potentially wasting 20 odd grand

Issue now resolved.

Half money refunded this evening, thanks Danny. Seems he had not been on the forum to see the message.

A fair resolution I feel for both parties.

Faith restored.

That's good to see a sense of fairness, and it's a good role model for any public browsing this forum.
