Having read about some of some of what our forum pals have had to contend with this month was not good & was hoping our family would get a pass but no. My Mum who although is getting on in years has suffered a silent stroke or other sort of cerebovascular event an was rushed into A&E last night. In a weak and very confused state which is not nice to witness but the hospital team have been great.
They are not sure what if any permanent damage has occurred but she is going to be assessed later so fingers crossed.
Don't want to overthink things at the moment but it's hard not too frown

Sorry to hear this about your Mum Ashley, the main thing is that she was rushed to A&E and is now in the best place to be treated.

I hope all goes well for her.

You'd just want your Mum to be in the best hands right now Cooperman and here's hoping there's a positive outcome later today and she pulls through.

Yes - good luck with this. With any of these situations, it's the not knowing that's hardest to deal with. I hope your mum recovers well.

Thanks all for your kind words and support, mum is the last of her generation in our family which I suppose makes it a bit harder but she is getting the care she needs so fingers crossed.

She is medically stable but still receiving treatment for her heart Simon but it seems that she is now suffering from vascular dementia:(
She is confused about why she is in hospital and various other details which is worrying. I really need to get a better understanding of how this can be managed and how I can support her going forward. She has lived on her own independently with care support up until now but not sure if this can continue. Any advice would be gratefully received as am feeling rather out of my depth

Whilst checking out the terminology here it implied possible links between vascular dementia and the initial medical event but I'm sure you've already done a deal of reading up about it. Care packages are also referred to and I guess finding a medic or person in a similar situation you can have a good conversation with about it will be on your mind. I'm sure you're not alone in your uncertainty, it's not something we tend to talk about much or receive any training for in my experience.

Good news in respect of Mums medical issues seem now to be stabilised and also heard hospital are carrying out a cognitive assessment today to review other treatment and support needed. The NHS maybe under strain but I cannot fault the staff and medical team looking after her.

Just when you think you have things back under control life kicks you in the nuts.
A few weeks after my last post Mum had some further tests and was shocked to be told she had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of Leukaemia, Five weeks after that she had passed away and I find myself arranging a funeral frown
Just wanted to say the Hospice and McMillan nurse support are amazing and have helped me and my family so much. I tend to keep things bottled up and wasn't in a good place for a while but one of the team in particular could see what was going on and talked me through a difficult few weeks.
Look after your loved ones but make sure you make time to look after yourself.

Must have been such a hard time. So sorry to hear that. I dread the same happening to my folks who are advancing in age.

Condolences to you and family. As you say, we're so lucky to have the NHS and support services.

Very best wishes from rainy Wales.

Ash, really sorry for your loss. While you're keeping busy with everything, I know it's a small thing but it says a lot for the forum that you can share this in the confidence that you'll be listened to.

She will pass on her strengths, I have no doubt on that smile

What a terrible sequence for you; I hope time enables you to recover your equilibrium and enjoy life once more, taking comfort from your memories of your mum.
Condolences to you all.

Thanks for the kind words and support guys and girls, things are settling down thank goodness but you learn a lot about yourself in these darkest moments and my wife & family have been a rock in the midst of it all.
