No it really is an MX-6. The MX-3 was smaller with a 1.8 V6, if you were lucky. There were smaller engines too.

What surprises me is how cheap the RX8 is these days. And yes I know they require above average maintenance (amongst other things) but still, it looks like there are some serious bargains to be had.

I had a 2004 RX8 with a rebuilt engine and it was great fun, revving out around 9k rpm!

The later R3 version is supposedly more reliable but still a thirsty beast. Mine used to regularly see 14mpg shocked

I was put off the RX8 by the many accompanying adverts for engine rebuilds. I like the styling of the RX7, very nice.

I'm biased having an RX7, but I do like the RX8 too.

The 8 handles very well indeed, and has usable back seats for little ones, i.e. can be a daily driver. Yes they use fuel (not as much as the 7), but rebuild costs are the same as some routine servicing items on other performance cars.
