When I was initially looking for TT's I was interested in the V6 DSG's. I visited TWO independent Audi specialists and both were rather persuasive that unless my pockets were deep and full of cash I should avoid!
On the V6 timing chains wear / stretch and the chain tensioners and pulleys also wear out. The chains are on the rear of the motor so this means a major strip down to get to them! If you have a VCDS you can run a diagnostic check before you buy which will give an indication, via cam and crank sensors, how worn the chain / pulleys / tensioners are.
The early versions of the DSG were not too reliable. The DQ250 only has a single oil supply so it is massively important to have regular oil changes. Because of the price many people avoided doing this. Also the early versions had poorer cooling and filtration and all this resulted in premature mechatronic failures. The reliability on Mk2's seems better than Mk1's but Later cars, post 2009 / 10 seem to be even better.
The 3.2 TTss do seem a bargain, but there is a lot more risk / cost than with a 2.0 Turbo version. If the budget allows take a TTS for a spin, that is one quick TT
