Thanks for this link. This sensor is for the 2.0 16v turbo models. Mine is a 2.0 20v non turbo limited edition model. Last summer I gave a similar link to my local Bosch garage who were not convinced that it would fit. This year I had the car towed to another garage and they also thought that it would not fit. Due to poor eyesight I have not been able to order/check this myself.

Regards David

Am I right in thinking there's a contradiction in terms here - are all LE's not 20vt?

I know these sensors fit the 20v variant Simon, they'll also work with the 16's, was just being helpful.

Are you're were you in Hemyock by any chance? I used to drive through regularly and see a couple of coupes, including this colour, parked on a drive there. More recently they have been absent.

Did you get the ABS sensor fitted? If so is it now MOT'd and back on the road?

Have tried to PM David but no response. Doesn't look like he logs on very often. Does anyone know if this sold?

Despite my efforts to contact DavidF re this car, which is local to me, I had no response. I see it has now cropped up on eBay (and a FC sales Facebook group) with a Buy It Now price of £3100!!

See if this works: Link

Optimistic, probably? Profiteering, certainly?

No mention of the fact it was off the road for 6 years. From what I could see this was out in the open too and it looked from some of the photos and comments on the MOT that rust was evident in numerous places. I guess if it's visible like that it actually is a lot worse when probing deeper. A late car also and we know they tend to suffer more than the early ones.

To be clear the eBay ad is not DavidF's, but a new owner who acquired it from him.

Maybe, but my gut feeling is that this is a car which will need quite a lot of welding/restoration work before too long. I also think the seller is looking to make a swift profit and has withheld some information in his ad.

Some of the advisories from the recent MOT. Enough to put me off.

corrosion to the inner and outer sills
corrosion to the floor
corrosion to the front panels
corrosion to the sub frame mounts
corrosion to the sub frame
corrosion to the exhaust
corrosion to the brake discs
corrosion to the rear coil springs

So unless you make a cheeky offer to offset a lot of bodycare cost it sounds like your mind's made up.....

To be brutally honest, the purchase price is immaterial, to restore it, and I suspect it will need a lot of work, been there, the cost will far exceed the value, depends what you are after. I reckon you could stick a "0" on the asking price to get an idea of the restoration cost, more if you get the workshop to do the grunt work.

IMHO

John

I think you're right. The list of corrosion advisories from the recent MOT is extensive and not something I am willing to or could afford to take on.

I was amused by the significant increase in asking price so soon after it changed hands. Needless to say it didn't make reserve on the eBay auction. I dropped the seller a message suggesting I may be interested at a more realistic price. This met with no response, until it failed to sell and I have since had a couple of messages offering it to me at DavidF's original asking price. I'm not going to bite though, as I simply don't have the spare cash to take it on.
