Who watched the launch this evening?

It was amazing, an incredible feet of engineering that they managed to get a successful launch of a new vehicle a two boosters back in to land.

The some what interesting payload made it in to orbit and we will see if they are able to re-light the engine after its trip though a little bit of radiation.

Still no news on the center stage but I think its fair to say it probably didnt make a soft on target landing. It did seem to be kicking up quite a lot of material back in to the camera.

Confirmed that center core did not land, well, it did just rather quickly, around 300mph. It depleted its fuel and was not able to reignite the outer engines frown

Rapid unscheduled deconstruction?

I would probably go with rapid unscheduled compression

Agreed it was an awesome piece of engineering. Seeing the 2 boosters land safely was amazing!
It was like CGI from a new Thunderbirds film biglaugh
Apparently the centre stage was 'guided' down close to the pontoon but entered the sea at approx. 300mph as you said.
Don't think they'll be re-using that one!

Awesome-just awesome. Media branding centre stage problems as a failure, but its never a failure when stretching the current known limits - rather a learning process towards eventually getting it right every time.

Completely amazing,

Its like something from thunderbirds - like sci-fi when I was young. But actually happening.

Got to give it to the yanks for doing this. And as a private effort as well.

Nice to read a good news story.

Wasn't that a great ad for Lotus - how many car companies (excluding Rover laugh ) can claim their technology has been launched into space?
Stig was the ideal test pilot as he would not waste any hot air.

I presumed Tesla were trying to get far enough away from a Model 3 so they couldn't see the uneven panel gaps...

Great feat of engineering and I particularly enjoyed the Douglas Adams tribute.
