I have my LE in the For Sale section but I appreciate that the protocol is not to comment on pricing there. I open to comment here though, if that is OK?

Here's the ad -

My LE

Do you think £4750 is too optimistic in the current market? Can anyone give an indication of what similar LEs have gone for recently?

Any comments (here!) would be welcome.

In my opinion you are being optimistic with your valuation as I have a similar spec LE on a 99 plate and I paid closer to three grand for mine (granted I got it on the cheap a year and a half ago) so with the market being as it is, you should maybe consider lowering your asking price.

If you feel it is worth what you're asking for then stick to your guns and I really hope it goes for close to what you're asking for as it gives everybody hope that they might be able to sell their coupe for what it is actually WORTH.

Optimistic yes, over the market price yes, but you are probably asking what its worth, just that unfortunately the cars aren't reaching their value anymore, supply over demand I dunno!

I would say you need to knock at least a grand off to get close, if not more frown

Way to optimistic !
When I read your add my impression was that you didn't really want to sell it.
and when I saw the price I KNEW you didn't want to sell it.

You're looking nearly twice what I'd pay for one in todays market.

Thanks for the responses, and I'm sanguine about the state of the market and what I'm asking.

To be honest, I don't need to sell it, and every time I get in it and see how well it looks, and remember how well it has been maintained it steels my resolve not to give it away.

I would let it go for less than the asking, but as the cash isn't the issue I'm seriously thinking about putting it into storage for a while while I ponder...

Ok... Let's be sensible here. If this was a standard LE in a good colour (I'm sorry but your car is not a good colour) it might be worth err....something. The trouble is that your car is way off standard( your idea of lightly modded is frankly wrong)The engine and interior have been substantially modded and you haven't completed the refurb of the bodywork.

I'm not a fan of the LE. I hate the bodykit, titanium bits and the garish leather interior. I am not the only one. Just because it's an LE, people go stupid. I would think your car is worth around £3000 as it is and £4000 if you put it back to standard. All this is assuming that it is a really mint example requiring no work.

Black is the colour to choose if you want to lose all the subtleties of a car's shape. Since the coupe is uniquely blessed in this department, it's a silly thing to do.

Now come on, dont sit on the fence, tell us what you REALLY think.

laugh

I reckon 4k in the current market. if it was Vinci grey you could easily get £6,000,000 for it. But its not so its worth 4k ish. Depends if you can find someone (or two) keen enough.

Luckily I have a Vinci Grey so my financial future is secure. smile

it looks good in black.
i know what he means about the lines but it still looks good in black, you have to look harder to see the lines but Im sure it depends on the persons taste, alot more subtle than say sprint blue or yellow. no need to get shirty about what colour the guys coupe is.
Id give you 3 grand today for it and id swap the red and black interior for std black leather or plus interior and i would be happy.

The LE is a specialist car and will command more money in the future than the standard and the plus. Red and Black LE's look stunning and the colour coding compliments these well. If you can afford to keep then just leave it up for sale it will sell eventually, it took me a while to sell mine and is now with a owner who appreciates what the car is and its potential. Many cried and moaned about it, fcuked me around but it is in the hands of someone who appreciates the car and its potential and even featured on pistonheads pic of the week . See here for a reminder of how good these can look

This is utter rubbish....specialist car!!!!!Not
Fiat just tarted the coupe up in the same way that vauxhall turned the corsa into a 'corsa style'.
Slapped on a body kit changed the leather, painted the calipers red ,changed the colour of the wheels and dash, added a strut brace(the good bit) and topped it off with a numbered plaque....Wow wow wow.
Then just waited for the suckers who thought they were getting something special!!!!
It was just to boast sales.
Wheres the factory upgraded suspension, engine and brakes that would have made it really special ?
I'm not saying you shouldn't be proud of your LE if you like the car but don't fool yourself into thinking that a numbered plaque means anything to a real car enthusiast or adds value.
And to add insult to injury Fiat then produce the plus which gives you all the good bits PLUS some real limited edition wheels.Oh the irony !!
Without doubt the worst looking coupe to leave the factory and a real case of the emporor new clothes

Rubbish? It was specifically designed as a limited edition car unlike vauxhall who have 50 limited editions of the same car and continue it through the range its hardly a comparison is it.
Usually the people who moan about the LE genuinely don't like the model but appreciate the fact it is a proper limited edition which will always command more money than a standard model everytime.
At the time of production the suspension, engine and brakes were good enough and given engineering back then is no where as near as good as it is now the coop still holds its own statistically.
The LE was around 27k new even in today's money that is expensive and to own a LE was seen to be a cut above the rest.
Oh plus you got a lovely limited edition numbered bomber jacket lick

I think you have just proved my point.
A consequence of spending to much time in the Dutch coffee shops (or on pistonheads) maybe ?

You did not have point other than ripping into a car and comparing it to a vauxhall. As for a consequence of spending to much time in the Dutch coffee shops, my only consequence was reading your post.

Dear Skint
Actually I think you last post is a consequence of you NOT reading mine(properly).
Try again without missing out phrases such as 'in the same way' or 'I,m not saying you shouldn't be proud of'.
Then we could have a proper discussion.

I'm not keen on the LE either. When people show me the inside and it has red bits all over the place, it reminds me of fisher price if I'm honest.

Why not just buy a £1000 coupe and spend £3000 as that would be enough to transform a coupe insted of a £4000 LE?

Very overrated coupe's in my view but by all means if you can get £4000 for it then all credit to you.

P.S the black does look nice smile

as i said its not the same way at all is it.

off course its going to add value since it was a limited run.

You quite clearly dislike the LE. I'm sure the guy asking for advice really needs to hear that.

Repoman wanted to know if his valuation was correct, that's all. Why are people stating LE's are crap blah blah when no-one asked for your opinions on them?

Dear skint,
Let me try to explain my view to you, one more time, in a different way .

True value is added by improvement, not change for change sake.
In the way that a 6 speed coupe may be more valuable than a five speed.
The LE might be a nice car to own if you like it,but the idea that it is more valuable, because of mostly cosmetic changes is (I believe) untrue.
In the future any extra value will be commanded by coupes with exceptional condition, history, standard specification and low milage.
I for one do not own a coupe for its possable future value but for its enjoyment now.
This I would think is the same for most owners. Some of whom like to modify their cars, some like them standard, some like the 16v and some like the 20v.
The author of this thread choose to invited comments on his valuation and I submited my honest opinion.
Which is ;
I think he,and others, have over-estimated the extra value an LE spec can command.

Now I'll get my Ltd edition numbered bomber jacket coat coat

6 speed gear box, strut brace, recaro seats all add to to the value of the car. Also Vinci Grey, Black and the Crono Grey are not available in standard form.

I certainly bought my LE for the colour, but the seats and 6 speed gear box all add to the sense of occasion. So they WILL always fetch a premium over a standard 20vt which can be anything from £500 to £2000 depending on the condition and desirability of the car.

Like everything its what the buyer is prepared to pay, and I am sure I could sell my LE for more if I found a buyer who wanted my car/spec (there aren't that many Vinci Grey's left from what I have seen).

Unfortunately the interior of the LE detracts from it.

It could be argued that it's a matter of taste...Unfortunately for the LE it's a matter of bad taste.

The six speed and strut brace are the only two things that add any real value in todays market IMO, and even then a strut brace is a simple and relatively cheap addition. I cant see any of those limited colours swaying anyone.

Now the Plus on the other hand I do think is a different kettle of fish. Yet still not worth the ££££'s extra some seem to think, at least not for many years to come yet.
