Despite hearing a few Coupe owners saying they couldn't find a cycle carrier to fit, I decided not to give up, during my search it turns out this company consider it ideal:

http://www.autow.co.uk/roof_racks/cycle_racks_carriers.html

Sadly they don't say which one was used in the photo \:\(

P.S. This might have been better in the spotted section? \:s

Well it's a thule one by the looks of it as the photo name is

thule_rear_cycle_carriers.jpg

Maybe...

I used to have a rear cycle rack and it left a heap of horrible scratches (from the straps) on my car at the time.

Ex 20VT - now something far more sensible'ish... smile

If you can hold of some fiat coupe roof bars, you can use roof mounted cycle racks by Thule or Mont Blanc. I have 2 Barracuda roof bike racks by Mont Blanc and they're excellent. £70 each though so not cheap. But very sturdy at speed!

I found a different solution: up until I got the Coop I was always quite happy hitching a bike-rack onto whatever I was driving to carry friends' bikes on weekends away, but refuse to risk scuffs now.

After much whinging my mates found the ideal cycle carrier themselves: a knackered old second-hand Audi estate... I think it cost about the same as these, \:D but has a few extra features.

Sorry to bring this one back from the dead, but I felt if anyone reading this, and bought the Thule one in the link- could ecounter the same issues I have had.

I have the same Thule one in that picture.

Although it's never fallen off, it's never filed me with confidence with it hanging off the boot & I never liked going above 60mph.

I did drill out new mounting holes for the bottom straps (to enable it to sit lower down- with the bikes behind the car instead of sitting higher than the rear window.)

I have broken two of the ratchet straps- they're made from really cheap cast metal & can break if pulled too tight.

Parts are easy to come by if you do break it- probably best to have a couple of straps spare in the car, 'cos if it breaks when putting it on the car before comming home- like it did for us, you could be screwed!

Also, one failed whilst driving shocked
Which was a brown pants moment, when the bikes started to move about- luckily we were just pulling away from a junction & spotted it immeadiately(sp?)

In all honesty though, it was probably my fault- I did'nt like the way it fitted & was a bit heavy handed.

It did put light scratches in the paint where the rubber feet rested on the paint- but that's easily cured with some softer padding.
Plus the fact, they polish out easily, so no major harm done.

So as suggested, if we're going anywhere with the bikes now, we'll take a 'normal' car smile

Dismantle the bike and put it on the back seat. This is my DH bike. I had to remove the handle bars, seat and wheels though!

I still had plenty of room left for all my armour and a weekends worth of gear.

I was looking for a cycle carrier today. I was concerned about putting too much weight on the boot as it is quite thin and I believe can bend easily.

Does anyone carry 2 bikes on their Coupe, and if so which carrier have they found to be good and inexpensive?

I used to try to carry 2 dh bikes (wheels in boot) on the back of mine. Made a right bloody mess of the rear bumper and also has made the boot lid sit slightly too low.

I'd say roof bars could be a possibility but I wouldn't like to try to lift a DH bike onto the roof of my car after a days riding.

As John (TipoBoy) says, they only way that guarantees no damage to car or bikes is getting a bike bag and chucking it on the back seat. Though I don't think you need to go as far as taking the handle bars off. You can fit two Dh bike upright on the back seat with the wheels off easily.

I did this for until I got fed up with faffing around and bought a battered old 4x4 pickup truck. Made life a million times easier, don't have to worry about getting changed after riding, can get anywhere in it, can take all the spares/tools needed.

Probably a bit ott if you're a roadie, but for taking muddy bikes around you can't beat a truck or a van. Leave the Coop at home, you will end up wrecking it!

I have managed to get my old roadie bike on the back seat with just the front wheel and seat post removed.
Not sure I fancy putting a rear carrier on to be honest, I would be tempted to try roof mounted but the best I have used was a towball mounted one on my old Laguna, no fear of it slipping off!!
I'm currently looking for a cheap hack for work so would prefer to get one with a towbar to do this again.

Just out of interest, does anyone know of any roof-bars that work/are compatible with the Coupe?

Fiat made some specifically for the coupe. Sorry I don't have the part number but it is listed on the forum somewhere.

Fiat don't make them anymore, but they do occassionally pop on eBay for sale or on here. Well worth the money! I got mine for about £70 from eBay.
