Who runs these - I have heard very good things about them and am thinking about fitting a tial 38mm set to 14.5psi spring or a little more.

Anyone got pics of there setups? my first plan is to run the cast manifold (16vt) and get an adaptor milled and cold welded in as I have a friend who can do this.

Anything to watch for/advice.

Do they make that much difference - i have heard they have excellent boost control, better spooling even than a EBC as the internal wastegate interfer with the flow of the turbine on a standard setup. also heard they always run what boost is set regardles of air temp and stop boost spiking etc

very interested to know more about it as well...

is there anyway to have this installed without having the piping soldered or weldered onto the manifold?

Don't think so - you may be able to make up an adaptor just before the turbo but generally it is either a custom manifold or getting a pipe welded into the cast one.

yes , definitely a pipe welded onto the manifold immediately
prior to the turbo exhaust inlet flange , to feed the Tial.

apparently only required for madly tuned coupes since the
normal flapper wastegate can go all the way to 3++ bhp, no
issues.

of course , if you're after the noise from a vent-to-air
external wastegate (ie , vide a screamer pipe) ... then
by all means ...... the quieter ones are plumbed back
onto the exhaust post turbo.

cheers.

having it welded onto the manifold, as mentioned,...will it either strenghten the manifold (since it cracks pretty easily) or just makes it worse?

manifold does seem delicate to me, that's y i'd rather not to have it welded on it....any other solution?

Buy a tubular manifold with the wastegate pipe already made as part of the process. I have only found one company doing this and it isn't cheap either

Begbie

Why not just get the pipe welded/milled to the cast manifold. Would save alot of cash?

It would, but then you have no idea on how well it will last. Will it take the extra weight, will it crack, is it in the right place etc... Also your then using a stock manifold with ext. wastegate where as if your going ext wastegate for power, you may as well get a tubular manifold at the same time

yes, you could buy a turbo with the seperate holes for the exhaust (one for turbine and one for internal wastegate) so its on a 5 stud flange, you then run a small exhaust pipe from what would be the internal wastegate hole to wastegate and control the boost that way, not the best, but this way you get external wastegate on a turbo that is designed to be internal

alright..gotcha!

i don't plan to change my turbo as yet...
so i guess, under such circumstances, i've got no choice but to weld it onto the manifold....if ever i decided to go with external wastegate....

am i right?

Thats correct, but external wastegate is better for cars with 400bhp+

Thats not an actual external wastegate though, its only a pipe from the internal one that is re-routed back into the turbo/exhaust down pipe.

Massive HKS external wastegate on my mechanic,s 800bhp GTR Skyline is so loud that it needs it,s own pipework and back box to quieten it down. This beast of a car is one loud, flame spitting mother of a car to be in on full boost. This car is so loud inside it with the huge HKS turbo and wastegate that Robbie had to install an intercommsystem to talk to his passengers.I had the privilage of getting out in her for 10 laps in Mondello Park yesterday.

The smaller exhaust backbox on the right of the pic is for the wastegate.

something like this :-

http://www.atpturbo.com/root/releases/release103105.htm

would probably be more relevant for Coupes , in view of the
lack of space to do a proper ext.w/g installation and
difficulty in sourcing a tubular manifold (for 20VT).

cheers.

Very nice setup - can a ask why you didn't plumb back into the exhaust futher away from the turbo? no room?

And no that isn't standard cs - its a tubular custom manifold
