Hi all....

Well my 2nd rebuild is i'd say 3/4 done, another couple of weeks and I should be off down to flea...

I'm was really happy with how things were progressing but there has always been a nagging doubt as to wether i'd made the right choice regarding turbo Exhaust housing size!
The only choices really for the 16vt are the standard 48 or switch to the laggier 63 housing... But reap the rewards higher up the rev range?
Well i'd had decided to keep the smaller one as I don't really intend to drag race or track the car, just wanted a fast ROAD car!

After seeing KJs results in the dyno section and after having numerous chats with Saint regarding turbo choice, I decided the 48 housing wasn't going do my rebuild justice as it really seems to strangle the power from 5500 revs onwards!

So my only alternative was the laggy 63 housing wasn't it?
NO..... I've mannaged to source a very very rare 55 housing which were only used on some cossies for a short period of time..... This should hopefully give me best of both worlds, quick spool and better peak power!

I knew these housings existed but never saw one or heard of one for sale anywhere until I stumbled across one on ebay last week... I won it last night!

I don't think anyone has ever used this exhaust housing on the coupe before, hopefully it will do the trick and with a bit of luck we may get a measily 16v into fleas top 10? Very tall order I know.... But i'm expecting big things with this rebuild! Fingers crossed! wink

Good luck with the build should be a nice quick GT car by the sound of things.

Cheers boys..... Absolutely itching to get car back now.... I've had 9 months of driving my work van only..... It's going feel stupidly quick when I get back in the coop!

good to see someone trying something different nick - I am sure you will be happier with it given the rest of your rebuild and doing it justice

Is it the same style as the coupe exhaust side? ie 3 bolt outlet with an internal gate on the angle? or is it more like the ford 5 bolt style? got a pic

after all this time I have forgotten what compressor you are using now - I think t04e 50 trim? but it should be a great combo

Yeah should be a good combo!
I'm still not sure about cold side.... All I know is its m11 housing and the compressor wheel is 72mm and 52mm (inducer exducer)!
I hope the fitment is exactly the same..... With just the 3 studs?
Really hoping to make 350+.... Shouldn't really be a probably as my old censored engine was pretty much maxing my old t3 super 60 even with each cylinder atleast 30 psi down..... 2 of them were down by 60 psi! Shocking!

if you really want to be different find a maram 247 shafted t34 .63 and get your standard ecu mapped for antilag (the real thing, not american launch control "anti lag") as the p8 supports this feature!zero lag, positive boost off throttle, much better!
but the .55 sounds good, enjoy!i predict about 360bhp if you run some manly boost

I reckon I can get 360 with just 1.45 bar....?
'Manly' boost may be next stage (next year)..... Along with 3 bar map sensor and ebv with 3 settings!
Was thinking 1.8 bar 1.4 & 1.1......
1.8 bar of boost must sound mental, i'd love a ride in a tuned cossie running silly boost!

Last month I mapped a Cosworth to 33psi, that's the low boost setting tongue

The .55 housing you have was designed and manufactured by turbo technics of northampton, to provide a middle ground between the .48 and .63 . You will find that the three stud pattern on the turbine outlet is a sligtly different (larger) PCD and will require a new flange on your exhaust / elbow. One very good thing about it is the much enlarged wastegate valve, the housing can also be machined to accept a gt35 series core.
