Actually when I think about it, I tend to agree with Sam. Really good winter tyres is the way forward for me. Thing is some back roads may warrant the use of chains, but in no time you would be driving on bare tar mac. Just my thoughts What would you reccomend for the Fiat? If it's snowing, then I use my Landie, whilst the wife has used Vredestien SnowTracs on her Skoda in the past, which we have found to be excellent. As a huge fan of winter tyres, is it possable to fit steelies from other vehicles within the Fiat group during winter, therefore saving the alooys from damage or corrosion? What wheels off other Fiat models have the same stud pattern and off-set, whilst preferably being a little narrower? cheers.

When I lived in Finland, nobody used snow chains, not that I saw anyway. We just used winter tyres wich had studs protruding. Seemed to do the job although you were mainly driving on ice and not deep snow. Paul

Here's something I once put together a while back when wondering what other cars had the same fitment. It came from a number of websites and I can't verify any of it, but it may give an idea of where to look. Narrower tyres shouldn't make any difference as the psi inside will still give the same contact patch. You'd be better of adjusting the tyre pressure to get the desired result. Alfa Romeo 145,146 94 to 01 Alfa Romeo 155 94 to 98 Alfa Romeo 164 4 Stud 88 to 98 Alfa Romeo 33 86 to 96 Fiat Barchetta 95> Fiat Bravo & Brava 96 to 01 Fiat Coupe 16V 95 to 01 Fiat Doblo 01> Fiat Florino 95 to 00 Fiat Idea 03> Fiat Marea 96> Fiat Panda 03> Fiat Punto I 94 to 00 Fiat Punto II 94 to 00 Fiat Stilo 01> Fiat Tipo & Tempra 88 to 95 Fiat Uno 85 to 95 Fiat Uno Turbo 85 to 95 Seat Ibizia / Malaga 85 to 93
F****** b****** thing...

Thanks Trappy Should be able to pick up a set of steelies for most of the above for next to nothing. The reason why I was asking about narrower wheels is that I imagine more regular sized winter tyres are a hell of a lot cheaper?

remember although the PCD and centre bore may be the same, most of these wheels will probably not have the offset to fit over the brembos on a 20vt!!

Paul The tyres with studs (used in many northern countries) are banned in most European countries with moderate/hot climate... Are they legal in the UK?

I haven't heard that they are not legal, if that helps? I cant imagine anything in the MOT test that would render them illegal.

Ninja Ah. I forgotten about that. You could use two of the space saver spares on the fronts Actually, that might work
