I'm 46, a cop, on a '97 20VT sprintie as a toy, I like having a car to strip, paint, lick clean to fulfill my OCD and keep me away from my wife and kids. Main car is an Audi S8, I've got an Impreza sitting there also, bit of a petrolhead all in all.

Been spannering since I was 12 (My dad was in the trade) built my first engine at 17 and been fixing cars ever since.

Spent yesterday detailing my arch liners and touching up the paintwork on my front shocks, how bad/mad is that????

42. Wife & son aged 12 Had coupe almost exactly 2 years (date March 13th is etched in my mind as such a great day).
Car history speaks volumes. Age 21 Scirroco 1.8 GTX (caught speeding on M20 loose licence return to go do not collect £200)Age 22 Renault 5 1.0L; Age 24 Fiat Uno 1.1L; Age lost count Vauxhall Cavalier 1.4 ; Fiat Tipo 1.4; Saab 2T; Financial crisis Mitsubishi non-carisma 2DTD; Vauxhall Frontera (still got for towing caravan!); 2nd financial crisis Golf 1.1L sub-£1k; Finally got my act together Fiat Coupe LE. Which I waited for for over 10 years like a love sick teenager since the time I was driving the Uno. All good things come to those who wait. And to go from the 1L Golf to the 20VT was a truely sublime experience.

You guys get a deal on insurance?

You can get deals like Towergate and wilsons do good deals for servicemen but I have never found them that cheap to be honest they also do you cover for having a car on an airfield etc.

I think why there tends to be a number of us youngens from the forces with performance cars is the spare capital we tend to get with the reasonably cheap living accomodation etc maybe a factor and also op allowances aswell for going away a lot.
