Go and get a new turbo with known spec from a reputable supplier.

Hi Nick

sorry to hear about this,

Just to confirm what Flea, and we never did get to the bottom of which compressor wheel you have, but there was discussion it was a T04b V trim or similar (maybe flea can confirm as this is a bit problematic no knowing)

Anyway, I had a T04b V trim on a .48 a/r stage 1 and it did surge. Was bad enough I swapped it out. It may not be a problem on race cars - high RPM most of the time, but the surge at say 3rd/4th gears at highway speeds wasn't great - you really had to drive around it.

No two cars are the same but just my experience

So option is find a .63a/r stage 1 housing that matches up to your downpipe - you have the OE coupe offset exhaust housing? yes?

Or have your turbine replaced with a stage 3 (requires turbo removal and rebuild/balance)

Either way a bit of work

think changinging exhaust housing rather than turbine wheel would be easier.... Ideally a 63 but i've been offered a holstet h1c very cheap but would mean i need to modify manifold to external waste gate.... Won't be doing that now but it is something to think about.... In the meantime could just put up with the 48 housing till i get some more dough together..... Anyone know about these turbos?? I know its not roller bearing and all i know is it has "16cm" exhaust housing.?? Apparently it wil bolt straight on? And its twin scroll.
gutted...... Surely someone knows where i can locate a 63 housing?? Read on the passion ford forum tho that they are quite rare nowadays??

I don't really know holset turbo - there are some good ones in the HX series, but buy something known. It will be a false ecomony I suspect. If it is twin scroll (it won't be it will be divided) then you really need a manifold to support it that is divided. Tigart do one at about $1k-$1500 euro from memory. plus the cost of external gate and supporting dumpipe

I gave up on these odd ball turbos myself years ago - just end up with too many unknowns

Get a GT series or T3/4 if you want a journal bearing that is a known quanity

http://www.turborebuild.co.uk/p/pro...arrett+T3+T34+T35+63+Turbine+housing+RS/

or:

http://www.turborebuild.co.uk/p/product/0806305896-escort+cosworth+t34+63+turbine+housing+GENUINE/

I think a rebuild of yours might work out cheaper in the long run, particularly if you find your existing turbine wheel is a problem in the new housing (if you get one) and you have to buy a new turbine wheel too.

Can't you go back to the turbo guy that sold you this heap of trouble?

Or maybe take a risk:

just to clarify.... Its not turbo guys fault its mine as i decided to discect his turbo and just bolt the 55 housing on.... Its all my own fault.... Gonna phone turbo guy monday to see what price will be for changing turbine wheel as my build deserves something bigger that the 48 housing i think?? I am a t w a t!

I can only refer to Turbo Technics here, but they use a 0.48 upto 310BHP and a 0.55 upto 400BHP. 0.63 upto 480BHP.

So my suggestion, if you can, use the 0.55 with the appropriate turbine wheel, as I don't think you will get to your target BHP with a 0.48 turbine housing and a stock T34 turbine wheel.

I highly doubt it you will make your target on the .48a/r and it won't do the engine justice. I maxed out a .48a/r stage 2 in the low 300's.

swapping turbo's again will be a hassle no doubt - there are always things that need adjustment.

get your turbo guy to confirm the compressor when you speak to him - it will make advice easier

with a 69 or 70mm compressor wheel, not sure which one you have but with a 0.48a/r turbine housing you are really limiting that size of compressor wheel's potential

i would go for the 0.55 turbine housing as that should see your 350bhp without the lag of the 0.63a/r housing

Brilliant news, that seems pretty straight forward and quickly done, should be good for some nice power now!

Now in the 400+ bhp club!

Do you know that the dimensions of your new housing match the inducer and exducer diameters of your existing turbine wheel?

not 100% ...but i'm sending mine to the guy in the morn, and he's removing his turbo wed morning.... So basically if my 48 fits his turbo ok with the right clearance (unlike my current turbo lol)... Then i see no reson why his bigger housing won't fit my turbo??

Was the .63 housing a standard fitment on some of the fords? It just seems like a big housing to run a stage 1 turbine in.

yes it was standard housing on the early escort cosworths i believe... They were t34 with stage 1 turbine? Think you've got stage 3 turbine haven't you sherlock? And possibly 75 or 79mm compressor wheel where as mine is 69 or 70mm...
Flea recommended 63 housing as he said it was spooling so quickly with the 55 one on it woul barely make a difference!
These turbo's can make 380+ on standard engine on cossies and i also believe my turbo now will be identical to the one begbie sold to vas and he made 356 bhp at just 1.2 bar on an engine that is pretty much identical to mine....

Integrale 8V has a .63 hsg.

Just had a look around and found the 'big' turbo escort cosworth used a t3/t04b with a 0.63 housing for homolagation purposes, cant find anything about what size the turbine wheel is.
Yes I'm using the stage 3 its laggy but you can max out whatever compressor your going to use with it. I'm still on a 70mm compressor wheel

your compessor wheel is only 70mm?
there aren't many cossies running your power if any with that size turbo over on the passion ford site?? That's with and without headwork... And your engine is pretty much standard right??
what boost are you running??

a 16cm housing is enormous for your car,12cm is the one you want,but...this will still be big, dont expect full boost until 5500rpm,threshold will be in the high rev range but lag between gears not too bad.

Well there not all there cracked up to be them cossie's..lol. If you ran a H trim on a cosworth it would make the power but people probably dont because there are newer more efficient wheels out there.
Generally the more trim there is on a wheel the more its going to flow, the T04b H trim is a 70mm 70 trim wheel, I've got a 76mm T04E wheel I could use, its a 46 trim wheel but it wont make anywhere near the power of the H trim.
Still the standard engine running 1.6/1.5 bar boost

The E wheel will be waaay better suited to a small capacity high boost engne though. The large trim B wheels dont like low flow rates.
