This Coupe has certainly seen a few different specifications over the years. Obviously it started out as a factory standard 20vt, and then it received an FC Stage 1 remap (previous owner), followed by a Stage 3 GT28RS upgrade, and now... well I think this adequately reflects my face as I write laugh

Pero took a bit of a gamble with his turbo choice. The Precision 6262 is a very popular turbo stateside, especially amongst the drag racing fraternity, but it is designed for high boost/high revving applications. How well does this transplant to a Coupe 20v turbo engine? Pretty darn good so far!

2.1bar
563bhp @ 7856rpm
397lbs/ft @ 6745rpm
501wheel power @ 7788rpm

1.95bar
541bhp @ 7858rpm
384lbs/ft @ 6833rpm
480wheel power @ 7661rpm

click to enlarge click to enlarge

Of course we are reaching unknown territory for a number of reasons. First off the boost pressures are considerable for what is a standard block and head bolts! While I have on occasion run up to 2bar, this car is looking to spend most of it's life around the 2bar mark! We then enter the realm of high rpm using the stock valve springs etc, where is the limit here? Again, I have been running 7800-8000rpm for quite a few years now without issues, however with Pero's turbo the power is still climbing at 8000rpm, therefore the potential to go to 8250rpm, or even 8500rpm is there. Other issues to consider are oil pump capability at such high rpms, indeed there are many factory items still in place, which really is a testament to Fiat engineering!

Anyway, forget the tech stuff for the minute, how does it drive on the road? Epic! After extensive mapping, the driveability is really very good, especially for the turbo size. When you mash the throttle for big boost it's like the Millenium Falcon entering light speed, an elasticated pause before the sling shot takes place! I think you will enjoy it very much Pero smile

Oh and you may notice that it holds the boost very well indeed! 31psi (2.1bar) all the way to 8000rpm is a buzz in itself!

As for the dyno being maxxed out, well not quite! The rollers are limited to 245km/h (152mph), which for an already long 4th gear means a little under 8000rpm!

Or perhaps your all just a bad influence giving others like myself ideas tongue

The question now,is,what's your next goal?Or are you happy to keep her the way she is?

Perhaps this year we'll be seeing an army of monster coops coming out of the dark..the elite shall we say... chinny

I'm yet to drive the car! yipee

To be honest, I'm not sure I'd want to go any further with mine. I think I'll be happy with the power for a while yet. laugh

I'm going to cry if I read any more threads about 400+ (now 500+) bhp coupes that aren't going to have their horses exercised properly on a large track or at least an autobahn (and I'll exclude the gearbox destroying drag strip but that's an option too!) cry

To me, it's all pub talk figures. When are you ever going to get anywhere near the top end of 3rd and for sure 4th anywhere else?

Great feats of building and tuning they most certainly are.

Or is it just me who cries inside when reading these, being the cantankerous git that I know I can be? chinny tongue

Wow... wow and WOW!!

Truly well deserved, as I know you have been hankering for a long time to achieve something stupendous!!

W E L L D O N E!!!

You and your coop are the stars in this production, with great directors and producers behind the story.

If it wasnt for the efforts of Barbz to push the new standard and Flea to map it, we would be still limited in coop achievements.

Truly happy for your fella and hats off truly to Barbz and Flea..just awesome!!

Question for Barbz/Flea/Biggenz:

With max boost available from approximately 5700 RPM, what is causing peak torque to be at approximately 6700 RPM? Is it the cams, the valves, the headwork or something else?

High boost heros is what it is. laugh
How much boost and how big the minerals are.
By the way im looking forward to the videos laugh

2.5 bar would see some fantastic power, but odds on you'll soon need some Biggenz if pushed much beyond.

2.1bar is idle stuff for that turbo. It's only just got going!!

I think everything is pretty much as far as I'd want to take it on the car. More boost will equal more power, but it will also mean clutch slipping, gearboxes breaking, blocks splitting and Pero crying.

Can't wait to drive it now! Hopefully it will be finished by tomorrow.

Funnily enough these figures are not far off my old 2.0 "Cyprus" engine, 587bhp at 8000 (still climbing) and 388 lb.ft at 6800 - but at 1.6 bar. Like driving a turbocharged Integra!

I was always worried about doing those kind of revs on hydraulic tappets, not just the revs, but the rate of acceleration of the revs as mine was driven flat everywhere. So personally wouldn't recommend revving even higher to see what the power works out at without adding in a solid tappet conversion

But there are plenty more knowledgable than me on here !

It was indeed, never ran the engine on anything else because it woiuld never be driven slowly

Was more making reference to the characteristics - turbo Integra style - rather than claiming victory in power output

When my 2.4 finally runs, won't be competing for outright power honours, looking for something more drivable (ie torquey) like the very first engine I ran which is still my favourite so far (have wrecked 5 so far)

If I remember correctly, your CR is 7:1 is it not? Shouldn't you be running more boost than 1.5bar and making more power? laugh

Really a wounderful result, congratulation.
In my opinion the 2l has the same maximum power output capability like the 2,4l - only difference is the response in lower revs, especially off boost.
In combination with a mechanical valve drive the 2l even should be capable to do more power than the 2,4l because of the high piston speed of the 2,4l at higher revs.
Is the CR of 7:1 right?! Then you still would have lot of room for even more power.
May I know what manifold you are using?! It cannot be the original one - you use an external WG, don't you?!
Thanks
Juergen
