I've been thinking of having a Coupé free 2013 shocked

No I'm not planning on selling it, what else would I take to the 20th anniversary event in Turin? I'm just thinking of placing it on a SORN and leaving it in the garage this year. I still plan to do some work on the car such as a clutch & rear brake callipers, and if funds allow some bodywork too.

Times are hard though and running a sometimes expensive TOY is not really at the top of the list any more frown

With regards not selling, That statement may not be strictly true rolleyes

A colleague has a Subaru that he bought new in 2003 and then had the PPP kit fitted. The car looks immaculate, has done just 40,000 miles and it is treated like a gem. He has been thinking of getting a bigger car and has received some shocking trade in offers, I have gone and said I could possibly be tempted if the price is right blush

What every you do though good luck.

Yup, worse than the 3.0 Alfa too!

If I were to do it I would sell both Italian cars and have the Scooby and small hack for work.

Don't do it Bob when things go on scoobys it costs. The engine aren't as reliable as you would think either.

With respect, I can see you only replicating the situation you are in now. A hack for work when you have calculated the extra insurance, tax, MOT, service costs, as well as potential parking issues often does not work out as good value as one would expect (cheaper than running a v6 alfa though)

As regards the scooby, I think they are on a par with coupes in terms of cost and reliability but more expensive relative to fuel costs (loss though perm 4wd) and insurance costs are generally more expensive.

If its a change for changes sake, you fancy a scooby then that's a decision only you can qualify. If its to save money in the long run then I think it might work out actually costing you more.

I've heard that he 2.5's are bad. This is one of the later 2 litre ones, the ones to go or apparently?

I'm not kidding though, this car is in near showroom condition, sounds almost as sweet as the Coupé and worst of all the fire breathing beast once kicked the arse of my Coupé frown

That's what I'm doing Bob.
Putting mine back to standard and having at least a year off the car!
Time does quick, I trust you will be dry storing it?

I do plan to keep the coupé, as a third car.

It's just I so nearly bought a brand new Subaru in the 90's. I took a test drive everything, but I then went and bought another second hand Audi!

I would never normally buy a second hand scooby, it's just I've known this one from new. I park next to it every day at work and know exactly what has been done to it. I know that the fellow who owns it is as fanatical bout his cars as me, maybe more so. I know this car almost as well as if I had owned it from new myself.

As long as you are keeping the Coupe, then it doesn't matter.

Go and buy the Scooby. Buy whatever you like. Just don't get rid of the Coupe laugh

Ever evil

Sorn'ing mine too for a 6 months. But will be sorting out creaks in the dashboard, new bulbs in the centre console and checking the nuts on the back of the rev counter.

Speaking from experience and not hearsay, the Subaru 2 litre boxer engine is a supremely reliable lump.

Over the past 12 years having owned 3 coupes and 3 Scoobys, in my experience Impreza ownership was way cheaper than coupe ownership.

In my 3 Scoobs - a classic, a blobeye (03 reg with PPP) and a bugeye STi, I covered nearly 60k+ miles and apart from tyres and servicing, they didn't cost me a penny.

The phase 2 boxer cured the piston slap problems that the late 90's cars had.

Just out of interest, even if more info to come later, does anyone know when this will take place. I might consider a driving holiday to Turin, if the timing's right.

The dates have not yet been fixed as far as I know, althought it will be similar to the 2004 3 day event.
