Morning all......

Came home last night to a letter on the door mat requesting my attendance for Jury service.

My problems are as follows;

Two weeks over month end
Two weeks over quarter end
two weeks leading up to our annual stock check

I'm the only person able to cover all there of the above

Company do not pay staff for Jury service and the money offered by Her Majesty is a LONG way off what I earn normally.

So how could I refuse/decline the offer, are all the above reasons vaild to at least get it deffered?

According to the .gov website you can delay jury service if it will have a serious effect on your employer's business. Sounds like the case.

You can deffer once only. I have just done mine which did not cover my wages.
I would state the above and childcare. Get it deferred.

Mine must have been the shortest Jury Service ever.
I attended on the Monday. Sat around and received a case on the afternoon.
Attended Tuesday morning and sent home on the afternoon.
Wednesday told no attendance. When i called in Wednesday night they stated i had completed my Jury service.

Total of three days off work, which annoyed me really as made allowances for two weeks.

I know of someone who sat around two weeks though without a case and another whos case ran on till 4 weeks.

I would say yes, the above reasons would be enough to warrant you sitting out of this one.

Wouldn't hurt to have a letter from your employer confirming that you are literally the only person available/capable of those jobs, and playing up the importance of those jobs.

Get your employer to write to you requesting you to defer your jury service - setting out all the problems it will cause the business (if it could affect the livelihood of others, spell this out).

You then write enclosing the letter asking to defer.

Chances? No idea. They are not the strongest reasons at the moment, though.

Alternatively, try and get a criminal record.

Alternatively, you could simply leap out of your seat when the defendant is brought in and shout "Oh Hi mate, long time no see, what the devil are you doing here?" laugh

Thanks all... I currently have my HR director flapping around now trying to find every angle possible as he is overseeing the stock check and I've informed him he will have to do all the IT if I'm not here laugh

Or have a brother who is a judge sitting in that court.

It worked for me.

It also sounds like the plot of an 80s comedy.

Edited to add: Working title, "My brother in law"
