Good work Brilly

I had an awful run today couldn't do 1.5k without stopping which considering I ran 10 miles the other day is a little frustrating.

I didn't run either - trying to prepare the cycling legs for the St Georges Sportive next Sunday starting in Princes Risborough. I have a feeling that a couple of people from here did this one last year.

I did the Reigate one last year organised by the same people. The time bands for gold/silver/bronze are for twenty-somethings, for old farts you can check last year's results for your age band and figure out a target to suit wink

Thanks for the support and advice.
I've just checked and there's a useful concession there.
Band Normal Old Git
Gold 17mph 16.2mph
Silver 15.2mph 14.6mph
Bronze 13.7mph 13.2mph
Do you get a medal at the end if your time's good enough?

Is that simply old git, or really old git? I did the Reigate one (mid route, 62 miles) and figured that 3h30 would earn me gold - which it did. But all you get is the knowledge of knowing what you did, no fanfare, no ceremony, no medal, you just gather around the PC screen at the end and find your name on there, plus results are published a few weeks later.

Started some interval training yesterday. Just set the bench Mark. Had to run as hard as possible for 30 minutes and based on the distance achieved I would get my interval plan. Managed 6.3 km in 30 mins which if I am honest was a little disappointed with.

Dave - isn't that over 17 mph? You would get Gold in any age bracket with that time. thumb

Elder - Do you think that going flat out from the start and not working up to a speed actually made you slower?

I have no doubt that you are right skinflint. Might try a 5k starting slower and speeding up. Want to get below 20 mins this year.

To revive this one, I ran a multi-terrain 5.7k last week - doesn't sound too bad but they banned iPods shocked which turned it into 42 minutes of pain and exhaustion cry, however safely back in the cocoon of the iPod this morning I got a new 20:45 PB at the Parkrun smile

This time I Lance Armstronged myself with a gel called Vooma Energy. Lovely Mocha flavour.

Forgot to update this thread. I did a personal best at Silverstone the other week over 10k with a chip time of 46:34. Very happy with that, just got to get closer to 40:00 now.

Results can be seen here:

http://www.silsonjoggers.org.uk/runningraces/silverstone10k/

Whether you are a runner or not a good chance to see the whole circuit as you literally run around the track starting on the old pit straight and finishing in the old pit lane. Excellent experience which I shall do again next year. Contemplating the Nurburgring run in septembre as well.

I'm starting to use Strava to track runs, but there are probably better tools for runners. I also use MapMyRun, it only takes a few seconds to upload twice.

Elder - that Silverstone run looks brilliant! And an excellent performance from you too. thumb

It was very well organised and going to enter again next year. Got a bench mark to work against then.

Just watched Jonny Brownlee win the Madrid Triathlon.

Aside from the commanding lead, he has an interesting running style with a slow gait and a lot of work in the arms.

Been a bit slacking on the fitness recently but have started rugby training to help keep up the numbers at my local club and have had a couple of local jogs.
An early(ish) morning Parkrun in the Forest of Dean today, which gave me the excuse to get the Coupe out and go for lovely 20 minute drive through some beautiful roads near Speech House etc. I ran my 5k in 27.49's which is about a minute off my pb for the course, but quite happy as I hadn't done the Parkrun for a couple of months!
Also managed to stay on my feet, after one scare, tripping over a tree root.
Double checked the oil when I got back, and all ok! laugh

I'd recommend the New Forest half. Very hilly and muddy depending on time of year. (time of year for mud, it's always hilly!) It was my first half and very hard work but I felt a huge sense of achievement at the end. Plus of course I know I can (easily?) beat my time in my next half!! 2:00:53 1:58:09
Started running at christmas to support my lad joining the Air Force, he's since found booze. 5k 23.30 22.10 10k 50:3047.50. Really addicted to it, stopped drinking and adjusted my diet to try and improve on my times.

Good to see you're all still at it. I had almost 6 weeks without running and thoroughly enjoyed yesterday's Parkrun. My time was deservedly rubbish but the feeling you get when running with hundreds of other people is amazing.

Is anyone still running these days?

I dusted off the trainers at the weekend and can confirm that my legs still have the ability to feel pain.

Hi Skinflint
Yes I am still trying to run at least 5k every week with the occasional Park run.
Not much improvement of late, but definitely feel good for getting out there!
How's it going withy you?

That's good. A regular 5k is about the best running exercise you can get.

I've been trying to prepare for the Highclere 10k after months of almost no running.
I did a 49:56 gun time last year and hope to beat it if I can get back into condition. Less than 2 weeks to go and I can hardly walk. smile

My better half has decided to run a half marathon and although a regular runner of about 3 miles she has started to suffer from shin splints after increasing her distance to 6 miles (3 times a week).I wondered if anyone has a few tips on how to recover and more importantly how to reduce the chance of getting them again. I would point out that she has been fitted for running shoes at the Sweat shop in Wndsor and runs on pavement.
Thanks in advance.
