Wow just cant believe how much cheaper petrol is getting!

On a side note i wonder how Scottish independence would of coped should they of been successful with the drop in oil price? Russia seems to be struggling with the drop!

I imagine at the current prices its not too profitable to extract oil from the north sea and they are forecasting it to drop to below a £1 a litre for standard petrol! cool

Yes - Aberdeen is going to be a pretty depressed place at this rate. Inflated prices there as a result of oil money. It will be interesting to hear what Sturgeon has to say

Central news in the midlands went "live" to a garage in Birmingham 10 minutes ago, to report on queuing traffic for cheap petrol all day as if there might be a petrol shortage and there was one van in the forecourt !! Scare mongering again from the media , as if we are going to fill up this week when its going to be cheaper next week banghead

I'm semi-involved in the oil industry as one of my jobs - IMHO, prices will continue to fall for some time yet.

OPEC have chosen to take on the American Shale producers, and have decided to maintain production levels, which is leading to over-supply.

However, there are some that say that the American production will be sufficient by 2018 to turn the USA into a net exporter - this is down to big leaps in fracking technology, meaning its not as costly as it used to be

There's still plenty of countries that will consume OPEC oil, so they'll continue to produce

The critical point comes at around $40 / barrel - a few heavily geared shale producers will go by the wayside at that level, but there are some Canadian producers that are still profitable at below $30 - at this point, some very big OPEC producers will be running at a loss, so its actually going to turn into a game of nerve (or more accurately, a game of how long the cash reserves will last)

The big casualty in this 'conflict' is Russia, who have neither the technology or cash reserves to compete, so demand for Russian oil is plummeting and taking the Rouble with it.

Nigel's (optimistic) prediction - unleaded will go below £1.00 litre in the first quarter of next year

But not in Russia!

Hopefully, as the taliban is also funded from oil, we will see a drop in terrorism - kill a few fields of poppies and they may go bust!

Well yes... I could find myself in the interesting position of being better able to afford the fuel to get to a job I no longer have if the price goes much lower; already we are losing exploration jobs, and that will get to exploration R&D soon.

"biggest casualty is Russia"

Listening to the squark-box this morning, sounds like Nigeria is taking a hammering too frown more people than Russia and more dependent on oil exports too

Just put Shell 98 ron into the Punto today at A$1.40 which equates to 73p.

91 ron was A$1.26

Will we see a price rise for the Christmas holidays?

I'm not convinced fuel price has depressed Coupe prices. And what goes down is bound to go up. Especially in the budget...j

But surely the tumbling oil prices is hitting the Inverness/Aberdeen economy pretty hard?

I've noticed a change here already, where this place is usually flooded with Russians, I've hardly heard a Russian accent in the past month (that's not a bad thing).

I was semi joking really, as there is always the hope that Coupe prices will rise, and the fuel price drop was another excuse to hope that they do.

It just means that for now we can have a few extra miles and a few extra bangs for the buck !

Aberdeen possibly - less so Inverness though quite a few people I know commute to Aberdeen.

I work in Amsterdam - another benefit might be my flights gets cheaper.

Filled up the Laguna beater half an hour ago. 13.08 NOK per liter for 95 octane - according to Google that's 1.138 GBP.

The Plus is stored for the winter, filled with ~16 NOK per liter 98 octane... crazy
