Anyone played with these and know where to investigate? All the web sites seem to be in Polish!

P0480 - Engine control blower motor, cooling fan in other words.

Could be corrosion on the relay pins if those are bolted to the front of the battery tray.

Yeah, looks like the slow speed fan.

I wonder what they were smoking? Given a choice, in the event of the slow speed fan failing, of (a) use the fast fan or (b) disable the engine, which would you have chosen?

Disable the engine of course, that'll make you go to Fiat so that you're charged stupid amounts of money for diagnostics and of course the cost of the relay crazy

Turns out it's an intermittent connection somewhere around the fuse box. After dismantling the fusebox to look for poor connections, it turns out there one hundred and three separate components, not counting the nut and bolt that attach it to the battery...

So having put it all back (and it only goes back one way; if you have the wrong links in the wrong place or the wrong way around, the lid doesn't *quite* shut) and everything was happy for half an hour, it threw the same error.

So had a fettle at the multi-way connectors at the back of the box and it seems - for now - to have got better.

We'll see.

Even though the relay is now clicking and the ECU thinks it's all wonderful, the fan doesn't actually come on at slow speed (perhaps the same fault as the coupe's slow fan failure) but it doesn't seen to bother it and the high speed fan works.

Neil you're doing it all wrong mate, all that was needed here was a bowl of rice left out with the fuse board over night on the dinning room table and the electrical pixies would of fixed it by morning, works for me laugh

I left rice *and* milk out, and the little beggars just made rice pudding...

For now, I'm driving around with the laptop and the adaptor cable in the car!

Aaaand next thing today, get under the bonnet again.

The Bravo threw an engine light at seven yesterday morning.
In the dark.
At five below zero.
On the Isle of Skye.
With six hundred miles to go...

Travelling with an engine that mostly had the power output of an anemic 2CV but randomly had full power, across frozen (black ice) roads and up and down gentle inclines like Kintail, Garrymore, Glencoe and sundry others was, um, interesting.

But we got lots of time to enjoy the view!

Back home thanks, Graham - this was on the way down yesterday.

MultiECU says it's the same fault as earlier; an intermittent failure of the low speed fan. The relay doesn't pull in when it's failed but wiggling the connectors makes it work; I think it's one of the multiway plugs on the back of the box. I haven't worked out how to sort that yet...

Getting very peeved with this... relay doesn't pull in at all, and what should ground one side of the relay coil sits at 12v (even open circuit) which suggests that the fault could be in the ECU.

Not amused...

Not that anyone's reading, but here's what I *think* has happened:

The fan relay driver lead from the ECU has been damaged at some stage in either production or the life of the car. I can't see anything; it disappears into a bundle an inch and half thick before emerging in the fuse box and I can't get to strip the coverings, but the wire is now permanently broken.

I suspect that the damage has gradually reduced the number of strands within the wire until there were only one or two remaining; they have become warm and melted through their insulation onto a normally 12v adjacent wire and then given up completely.

This has killed the ECU which has required a new board... meh.

Wire is now clipped in each plug and insulated; a new wire joins the plug connectors and everything is happy at the moment.

Just need to sort out the fact that the slow speed fan doesn't actually do anything... a new resistor should sort that out but as the official one requires half the front end removing just to get at it, I shall do something more bodgish.

Wow, not one but *two* coupe book mugs! laugh

Cheers, Joe.

I checked last night and it hasn't fallen off or burned through the fan housing.
