If a defendant is listed in the Crown Court's daily list as 'Committal for Sentence', rather than 'For Sentence', what does that actually mean? The person in question appeared earlier in the Magistrates Court, and was referred to Crown Court.

The sentence's available to the Magistrates (in its opinion) is not severe enough for the offence committed!
So the defendant has been referred up the chain to a court that has a wider range of sentencing options
An old neighbour of mine made the mistake of agreeing to go to the crown court in a right of way civil case which also means the court has the power to impose a Bigger fine and award bigger costs! in my case i can only assume my neighbour thought he was going to win!
