Can someone tell me the spec of the 28r? Is it uprated seals and bearing or bigger in anyway? Whats the difference between standard 28 and 28r?

Thanks, Jim

Ball bearings is the difference, Its the same turbo the Nissan Pulsar GTIR uses, good for 320bhp

Is it the nissan pulsar gtir turbo ?
It's easier to have yours turned into a hybrid

Mine has come from another 20vt. Just wanted to ask the question. I know looks arent everything. But just looks like a normal 15 year old turbo smile

Mines suffered the usual abuse, decat fitted and now taken its toll on the turbo. So ive bought it in the hope its suitable for my current plans. So just to confirm. A tb28r has a ball bearing and a seal suitable for runnig a decat?

As i thought the GT series 28r was a ball bearing? Also didnt realise the tb28 could be fitted with a ball bearing.

Cheers, Jim

Take some pics of the turbo, inside intake compressor side, & turbine hotside.

I just learnt not to trust the markings on the turbo as it showed as a standard nissan gt-r turbo but turns out to be a hybred tb28

If the turbo had a roller bearing would it spin easily with little resistance by hand?

The standard turbo has a 50 trim compressor and 62 trim turbine.

Looking at the link above the turbo has a 60 trim compressor and a 62 trim turbine.

My guess is it's a hybrid turbo still with the journal bearing with a large compressor wheel, although you can't really tell from photos, you need to measure.

This would explain the "R", and get you closer to 320 bhp, although typically you'd need the larger 62 trim turbine to achieve that figure.
