Good Evening,

I have recently joined this forum as I'm about to become the proud owner of my dads 2.0 Turbo 20V. My sister has made him buy a Honda as she says he is too old for the Fiat now! (he is in his 80's). As he has owned it from new and loves it dearly he has said I can have it to keep it in the family. He thought he may have to take it to Smithys otherwise (Banbury members will know that is local scrappers).

It needs a cam belt as the only pwk I can find it last 2 pre mot checks from his now retired mechanic that says Cam belt due. This was a bit of a sticking point for me as I have been quoted horrible labour prices from local garages. I was undecided whether to walk away or not, but Carole Nash just gave a great classic car insurance quote smile. Plus my dad adores it!

Any recommendations for local garages to Banbury, or Sheffield, who can do it without removing the engine would be most appreciated.

Thanks to djmobi for the Witney one.

Thanks for the prompt. As a new member I think there's a delay on my posts for admin approval? I've seen Gaz's post now.

That's correct Merlin_Cat, one of the things we do to thwart spammers from spoiling the forum is to check and (usually) approve the first 4 posts from new members. Once that is over with that member's posts are immediately visible to all on the forum.

Thanks Theresa smile

Cheers PeteP, I thought that would be the case as I've been on other forums that do the same.

why would you risk supplying your own belt kit? At least if it goes wrong or the there are issues with components (I've heard a few stories where kits contain duff parts) then the garage can deal with it properly with their supplier rather than have you running round....

They did mine I had my own kit and pump, anti freeze.

Is there an issue? I was trying to save chap cash.

I'm sure he will be happy paying 350 to keep everyone happy.

smile..

P.s they did my 20v, 16v turbo and my na.
No faulty parts in the gates kit I provided btw.

I think 2 separate specialists have told me they've had faulty bearings.
It's only my opinion but if you did buy a faulty pump (for example) and it failed 2 weeks after fitting and you bought your own, who'd pay for it replacing + fitting? ( usually supply your own, take your chances)

Cheers pjdm,

I booked in in nr dads as didn't want to risk the drive up north before it was done. I'm only 15 mins from chesterfield so that will be one for the future.
