After a couple of years with Neil Willies, then Glynwood, I got chatting to Classicline Insurance at their stand at Auto Italia

Oliver Saunt is an ex-Coupe owner (and regretting selling his 350 bhp 20vt...), so he knows all about the car and the fascination they hold

This year, I gave him the chance of a quote, and he beat Glynwood's renewal quite comfortably

  • 3,000 miles a year (more than enough normally, but I'm off to LeMans this year)
  • £7,500 agreed value
  • All mods declared - £12,500 of spend and 480-ish bhp
  • Breakdown cover (inc Homestart and European cover)
  • Excess of just £250
  • Trackday cover

Total cost for a year was just £245

I reckon a more "normal" Coupe would be a fair bit cheaper

Definitely worth giving Oliver a try

Nigel, how much did they beat your other quotes by?
It's too early to get any quotes for mine yet but will certainly give them a go nearer the time!

About fifty quid difference - not a huge saving, but as a percentage of the renewal, is was pretty good

record was £1,100!

I'll second Classicline - I've just insured with them too, far far cheaper than anywhere else. Plus Oliver (olly) is a top bloke and used to have a coop running 450ish bhp build by Barbs.

I must have had the same guy on the phone … he told me all about his old Coop as well! Couldn’t insure me though, they couldn’t handle me not having a garage and living in central Glasgow.

I just tried and despite "only" 350bhp and 5,000 miles, parked on drive in low crime area, I can't get below £400 frown

This is interesting to see.

Classicline have just become the insurance partner for the Porsche owners club I work for. Will definitely have to give them a shot when it’s time to renew.

Classicline quoted me £340 for mine and Glynwood £230.

Exactly the same information supplied of course but the Glynwood quote had an agreed value so I went with it! The strange thing was it was underwritten by exactly the same insurance company.

Needless to say I wont be trying Classicline again.

Well as they say in the States, YMMV, it's worth trying as many companies each year, you may not change at all, or you may change every year. It's hard trying to understand how these companies work, in my case Glynwood were better than Classicline, and the only reason I can think of that some of us can't do any better with Classicline is that we're living in the "wrong" area (south of the Thames, or Glasgow wink )

I ended up going with Classicline - £370 for me and MrsC (who has 6 points on her licence) for a remapped 20VT. It includes quite a few good points like agreed valuation - with photos and an assessment form completed by FCSS.
The only PITA is that the maximum mileage I could get was 7,500pa, which may well not be enough (we did 17000 last year).
The only company willing to offer as high as 10,000 was Adrian Flux and I was really unimpressed with their customer service (not to mention the £540 quote...)

Not sure what happens if we get too close to the limit, but I'm guessing more money will doubtless be involved.

I should add that my quote is for a modified car in excess of 300bhp

I'd like Classic line to confirm their policy is either an insured policy or an under written policy. This has still not been made clear to me as it makes a massive difference with a total loss claim, ie the agreed amount no argument, or showing similar examples for sale at the time of the incident which would gauge the market value.

Ok, an additional policy which is what, insured or under written?

The two are totally different when it comes to making a claim.

Hi Joe,
Just taken out insurance with CLI, well happy with the service and the price. This is a copy of the letter regarding the agreed value, it isn't a separate policy. "Classicline's agreed valuation service, we acknowledge your payment of £0. Please complete and return the attached vehicle valuation form and please follow the instructions set out on the vehicle valuation form. Please note until we have received a completed valuation form along with the required photographs and we have sent you a certificate of valuation agreeing the valuation of your vehicle the vehicle will be covered on a market value basis only."
They would like about six photos, outside and inside, and engine bay, with the vehicle reg in one or more of the pictures.
Does that answer your question, I've got copies of all the paperwork, sent me yesterday, will bring them up on Saturday.
