For me, it's Giugiaro. Mainly because of the Lotus Esprit. Look at the S1. Such a clean, sharp design that didn't really need to change too much over the course of the Esprit's (nearly) 3 decades. Even now it looks excellent, if a bit dated at 40 years old!  Yeah there are much better looking cars, but the whole 'wedge shaped' design is just so influential and iconic. And yeah Giugiaro didn't exactly invent the wedge design but he did regularly use it, perfect it and make it his.

The Fiat Dino for one.... And the Fiat Grand Punto I still think looks good.

Giugaro for the AlfaSud, Golf, Fiat 850 Spider and Dino Coupe plus Lancia Delta, or Gandini for the Miura, X1/9 and Stratos, tough choice.
The trouble with pininfarina is that they never typically attributed designs to any one person, but I have to include Leonardo Fioravanti for the Ferrari Dino, F40 and 308 amongst others, Tom Tjaarda for the Fiat 124 Spider and DeTomaso Pantera, Lorenzo Ramaciotti for several Ferraris (456, 550, F430), Maseratis and the Peugeot 406 Coupe which could have been the Fiat Coupe of course...

If you look at car numbers sold for a design. It'll be the Fiat guy who designed that 124 that went on to be the Lada or Vaz. If you add to the equation 'this is what happens when you are forced to buy this car as there is no other choice" then it helps

In that case... we should consider Ferdinand Porsche for the Beetle and his grandson of the same name for the Porsche 911...
But then the links to the Nazi's can't be overlooked. Indeed he did design some pretty awesome tanks. No one suggesting Chris Bangle Then. He did design two fantastic sports cars, before trying to ruin BMW and flame surfacing is now common across the car industry. Just not BMW. LoL For me the F1 is still on a massive pedestal above other cars, so it would have to be Gordon Murray, for Best Ever.
