I took my Coupe for a blast up the M4 on Saturday. Was brilliant. Perhaps the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Before I knew it I was at the Bath turn-off, where I turned around and blasted back again. I think the old girl needs to do that now and then, and so does this old girl! Nothing like a good "Highway Tune" to blow away the cobwebs!

Annie would you buy a 20VT? All the turbo sounds make it even more fun!!! Controversial, but I would say that you get more fun at legal speeds in the NA as you get to hold onto the revs for longer. Some say, the NAs give a fruitier sound too. I think most of us would like a Turbo Coupe, but as every days cars, the NAs make a lot of sense.

Hey Anniemac, Was that about 2.30pm? I thought I could hear a 5 cylinder howl coming from the Bath direction when I was outside on the driveway washing my Porto and I live in Newport!

NA's do have a better engine note for sure, NA stands for "Natural Acoustics"

You'll convince us about the NA one day Toby! Doesn't NA stand for Non Applicable though????? Us VIS and NA types have to stick together Mark. It's a cruel Turbo'd world out there. Turbo's are faster, but NA's are simply where it's at. I read it in the Daily Star. [off to catch the double decker bus on the moon]

In 5th gear, just possibly In the correct gear, not a chance - I reckon the turbo will be 50% quicker than the VIS FWIW, I agree that the 20v N/A sounds wonderful with the right exhaust - much cleaner than the turbo, with more of an edge to the sound

In 5th gear, just possibly In the correct gear, not a chance - I reckon the turbo will be 50% quicker than the VIS I've never put the numbers for the 20v through the calculator - so I did for a giggle. Fiat Coupé 20v 0-10mph: 0.8 0-20mph: 1.65 0-30mph: 2.58 0-40mph: 4.39 0-50mph: 6.43 0-60mph: 8.64 0-70mph: 12.03 0-80mph: 15.72 0-90mph: 20.01 0-100mph: 26.47 0-110mph: 35.02 0-120mph: 48.33 Top Speed (mph): 128.5 Top Speed (rpm): 5104 60-80mph: 7.06 60ft Time: 2.58 60ft Terminal: 29.9 330ft Time: 6.91 330ft Terminal: 52.2 1/8 Mile Time: 10.65 1/8 Mile Terminal: 66.9 1000ft Time: 13.83 1000ft Terminal: 75 1/4 Mile Time: 16.68 1/4 Mile Terminal: 82.4 0-400m Time: 16.62 0-400m Terminal: 82.3 1km Time: 30.65 1km Terminal: 105.3 3/4 Mile Time: 34.95 3/4 Mile Terminal: 110 1 Mile Time: 42.87 1 Mile Terminal: 116.6 2 Mile Time: 72.1 2 Mile Terminal: 126.4 I have no idea if these times are correct to be honest; I’ve never seen a data set… They are a tiny bit slower than the 145 Cloverleaf though, so look about right. Anyway they suggest that the 20v would take 7.06 seconds to cover 60-80mph ‘through the gears’. Using my own car’s 220bhp dyno data (I’m not convinced Fiat’s 228lbs/ft@2,600rpm is accurate by a long way), it gives me a little over 10 seconds from 60-80mph in 5th gear. In 4th gear, a little over 6 seconds. I therefore believe the 20vT would be faster from 60-80mph in 4th gear than the 20v would in the right gears. It’s right at the sweet spot when the turbo really gets spooling. 60-80mph in the 20vT is 3.86 seconds using the same data – almost half the time the 20v would take.

I think this thread is just about NA owners trying to convince themselves...........carry on If it keeps them content..... N/A bashing has reared its ugly head again All Coupes are great. N/a drivers appreciate their cars for what they are, as do turbo drivers appreciate their motors for what they are. Annie - a 400 mile motorway round trip was the best performance enhancement I ever did to my Vis. I even took the long way home for the last 5 mins as I didn't want the experience to end.

Got to agree. All Coupé models are great in their own way. I'm sure most comments are tongue in cheek and really just good natured banter. I drove a 20V NA for the first time, when Joe loaned me the Murple courtesy car, the one with the comedy clutch, but despite this, it had plenty of charm and all of the Coupé sense of being somewhere special. Oh and fuel economy, compared to all the 20VTs I've owned, was just phenomenal. Be happy to just have a Coupé. Any Coupé.

My old 1996 N/A Scottie has a beautiful engine note, but my red vis does not seem to have an engine note at all, it is very quiet. My old Porto NA was much rawer in sound than my VIS too... dare I say it, more fun?? The VIS has a more refined engine for the discerning lady or gent, not like these turbo hooligans. It's a grown up Coupe. So, I put a better exhaust on to release a little more burble. The engine is smooth and torquey, and a pleasure to cruise about in. Then drop to 2nd and 3rd for some 6,000rpm fun. The only thing it needs is a taller 5th gear.

[cue cam belt snap] See - just friendly banter (as it should be) Joe's courtesy cars have given some turbo drivers the opportunity to appreciate the charms of "other" Coupes.
