Hello guys just brought a nice Coupé with the non turbo 16v motor..

but it runs strong and low (miles) but is was thinking about what rpm i can take it to? redline on the tach starts at only 6000 but it seems to be pulling strong even after that? i know the turbo model runs 7000 before redline? so can i take my non turbo 16v up to like 6500-7000? like the Alfa Romeo 2.0 TS do? and even the Lancia 16v pulls over 6250?

This is going to sound really old and boring - but the redline is there for a reason I suppose.

The limiter should kick in shortly after the redline to remind you that you are going to hurt your engine.

The 16v turbo has the same redline at 6000. Not sure about the rev limiter. Unlike the trubo, the NA will make reasonable power after 6000, reving it to 7000 every now and again won't hurt it. GC has stated 7200rpm max for the 2L Lampredi.

I have rpm limiter in my 16v set at 7800 rpm but the engine is modified - however still with stock pistons, crank, rods... all carefully balanced with new bolts... you should have the reason to rev it so high ( in my case was better to shortly attack rev limiter than change the gear from 3rd to 4th on 1/4 track.. )

if you dont have any modifications which will improve airflow over 6000, its uselles to move rpm limiter higher than it is in stock (6800 I think..)

I found some old video where you can see (hear) how it sound to rew it so smile

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnI4_xuU6_o
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xokNMv9THQE

its some 9 years old and the engine has now more power (new soft, exhaust, new mods on intake, retimed cams...) , but still same internals... however last year began misfiring at high RPM WOT (its seem there some electrical problem - probably shielding, after changing/checking everything instead of wire harness)

Sounds great Honza! what Hp number are you getting with does mods? laugh

I will get a full exhaust and decat plus BMC airfilter and a chip from fcperformance hoping to see like 160hp+ smile

at the moment BHP is unknown.. it should be somewhere in 200hp territory as it was the intention during the build in 2006...

at the video there should be some lower values than now, because of ignition timing was almost stock, and exhaust was slightly restrictive than now

.. at the moment with the modified map, engine sounds different and feels much stronger than before (until probably electrical related misfire occur frown I should solve it before next mapping session to map it completely..)

mods to engine are extensive - some for power, some for increased reliability and some to keep the car somehow "roadlegall" without much troubles (E-homolagated cat, stock ecu, modified breather system from 16VT, e-homologated end silencer..)

reliability related:

- steel FW with 228mm OMP clutch
- fully balanced stock bottom end with new bolts
- oil cooler and engine mount from 16VT
- 1" timing belt and balance shaft removal
- walbro 255l fuel pump

performance:

- fully modified head
- Kappa 16VT intake
- 60mm Throttle body
- custom modified header (secondary pipes and outlet)
- 60mm exhaust with 2 silencers and euro 2 compliant 200CPSI performance cat
- 294/285 cams with higher lift (valve lift 10,3mm)
- compression ratio raised to 11,3:1 by modyfying stock pistons and lowering block
- fuel pressure raised to ~3,5 bar
- custom map in stock ECU
- drilled 16VT bottom part of airbox with paper filter...

with planned mods you should be around 160hp easily, depend on condition of the engine..

I would focus at condition and reliability first (change oil to better one, before change clean the oil squirts and check if they are closing-if not, huge amout of oil pressure is lost here, clean the oil pan, pickup and valve cover, remove balance shaft timing belt, change to new spark plugs at least..) then perform some performance mods... I would keep the cat, or use some performance one...

never measured smile not interested in this value...

however some acceleration values with old engine setup
0-1/4 mile in 14,4s
0-1km 26s

For the record: standard engine has a redline at 6,000 and the cutout at 6800; on mine this has been raised to 7,200 on standard internals but a flea chip. Beyond that the power drops off...

From memory (twenty-odd years old) the manual states something along the lines of 'do not keep the engine revs in the red sector for extended periods of time'...
