Just had my renewal with classic line insurance come through.
Gone up this year......... a whole £2
£217 3k per annum on a garaged 300bhp'ish worth of mods.

I asked them about the salvage buy back option.
Apparently it's only for cars 20 years old, however approaching 20 years old the insurer would probably give you a buy back option or you can go for a payment/settlement in lieu.
This would be slightly less than he repair cost.

That seems a lot of money for 3k miles a year Richard! Just saying mate! Did you try any others?

Don't forget the postcode lottery when it comeskto insurance, I would say that was pretty good

I thought £217 wasn't bad, I haven't shopped around yet.
I'll try a few places tomorrow.

Seems a fair price.
Mine has just cost £206 with mods and not garaged, for 4k miles a year.

Just renewed with Lancaster for agreed valuation of 29K with all mods and upgrades including map (300BHP) and the ability to swap between 16' OE and 18' AZEV C rims for 5000 mile/year for £305 (legal and personal injury cover included).

I'm amazed at these low quotes from Classicline, I've found them to be outrageously expensive. Mid £300's for a (non performance related) modified VIS, I'm in my 50's, 25 years NCB, 3rd car, good postcode, 3k miles and garaged!

Glynwood on the other hand are excellent so that's where I am.

Glynwood wouldn't even provide a quote so won't be approaching them ever again, customer lost

No unfortunately their arrangement with Equity Red Star has become more limited and they won't do an agreed valuation any more for an ungaraged vehicle.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a difference between what we think the coupe is worth - particularly after we've spent a small fortune[1] restoring them - and what the average ebay price is... and it's the latter that is what they're using to value.

They seem immune to the argument that those which have had the money spent on them just don't come up for sale. And they can't work out why someone would spend fifteen or more grand fettling a 'three grand' car.

Like I said, Lancaster didn't have a problem though. An agreed Valuation should be at least given whether you accept it or not but glywood wouldn't even comment. At the end of the day they could have told me either what they were prepared to cover it for or offer a higher premium for the cover required by the client

I forgot to add that the irony in the Classicline/Glynwood matter was that they both quoted from exactly the same insurance company!

No problem with the agreed value through Glynwood either.

I now cover the Abarth daily through Glynwood too as that was a reasonable price with good cover.

Just renewed mine with ERS through Glynwood Simon and no problem with agreed value and it being parked on the drive as I have no garage.
Don't think they can give the same cover if it's normally left on the street overnight.

In that case I stand corrected Pete, must be the "on-street" issue.

Yep street parking is an issue for me too, I've yet to get lower than £300 for 3k per year and mods declared.

Footman James for you then, like I. Do agreed value as well on a rolling improvement policy as well. I believe Lancaster Insurance do something similar that no doubt Clintos has included..

Mine is covered for 5000miles/year with aftermarket wheels, turbo upgrade and map all declared for an agreed valuation of 25k. I did initially value the car at 29k but Lancasters panel of 'so called' experts would only 'agree' 25K

Of course, but owner's should not be surprised when trying to agree a value for a car that the insurance industry has seen as not worth a fig.

I wouldn't call £25k a fig. Not sure if you fully understand the principle of agreed valuation or not but it's not about how much you can get for your shed, it's about getting the true value of invested money into your car back to replace it with a like for like replacement in the event of a total loss.

We had some discussion with Lancaster's club coordinator at the NEC last week; we're waiting for Joe to get back from Assen to get some photos to see what their valuers have to say. Otherwise, their responses were positive at the stand.

Watch this space, I guess.

Yep. Same as Footman James. Mine is no where like your wonderful machine Clintos, but as mine is a rolling restoration, even my agreed valuation as of 2016 is £5k.

Well after being insured with Lancaster last year with an agreed valuation of 20K, I decided to extend my cover with them for 2017 only to be told after they took my money for increasing the agreed valuation to 29k that they were only willing to provide agreed valuation for 9k. When asked why, they just said that the new insurer did not do agreed valuations????? This left me with two choices; accept the 9k certificate or cancel my policy. I instructed Lancaster to cancel my policy with immediate effect and demanded a full refund on the premium paid without any admin costs or charge for the month I had the car on cover with them. I will add that I did threaten to make an official complaint to the financial ombudsman if they did not comply with my demand due to the breach in contract being with them. Yesterday I was informed that they had cancelled my policy with immediate effect and a full refund given within the next 5-10 working days (unfair I know but at least they accepted the terms of my cancellation).

Having no insurance cover at all yesterday afternoon, I frantically searched for an insurer who could provide me with the cover I wanted and ended up taking cover with Adrian Flux at a premium of 644 for an agreed valuation of 29k on the coupe with a 5000mile/year limit, European cover and driving any other vehicle also at fully comp cover providing the car is insured and isn't registered at my address. Additionally, all mods including hybrid turbo, mapping, clutch, lowering springs, exhaust and Azev C alloy wheels declared.

I know its expensive and be a bit of a pain but I finally got the cover I wanted with someone who seems to tick all the boxes, Lancaster on the other hand.............beware!

Yes I think AF make efforts to get your business and keep you happy, but at a cost.

Interesting.....it was ERS with whom I had an agreed value for a few years through Glynwood, then 6 weeks after renewal last year they decided not to cover that way as it's parked on the public road.
Now Classic Line who also use ERS has quoted me agreed value no problem, and at a reduced cost - still parked in same place crazy

They're at it!

I had the opposite effect; ERS through classic line would cover mine for only £5k last year, but the previous year and this year the same company accepts £10k through Glynwood.

Since it is apparent that the terms offered by the insurer differ by the broker, what chance does the owner have?

Insurance is theoretically straightforward: it should be able to return us to the status quo ante in the event of damage to the vehicle. This is not what is being offered; there are not enough high value cars being offered for sale for the insurers to estimate a value. And none of them will admit that 'something off ebay plus 10-15k restoration' is an adequate recompense.

Just had renewal paperwork from Glynwood. I spoke to Phil at their office, he dropped price down to a 10% increase from last year to £274 but breakdown cover and salvage removed from the policy. Told this is a national decision by their insurers. Still do agreed value.

This is for 5000 miles per year ( could drop to 3000 I think if that makes much difference) 20v turbo plus 2000. 43000 mileage

Any suggestions, comments? I need to renew by 16th May.

ClassicLine use exactly the same company as Glynwood, i.e. ERS.

I liked dealing with them as the service was more personal but it started to take quite a long time for things to happen. Also they wouldn't do an agreed value as I park mine on the street but ClassicLine do - with ERS crazy

The latter's quote was £100 less too.

I have asked Glynwood/ Academy to comment.

This is not what was agreed when we originally set up the club insurance scheme that they took over.

I emailed them last night and this morning was told that ERS (the insurers) rep called in to see them last Thursday and advised Glynowood/Academy that, with immediate effect, any new or renewed policies will not have the benefit of the Breakdown cover and salvage retention on the policy.
They have decided to withdraw these benefits from all their scheme type policies, not just our Fiat Coupe Club policy.

Glynwood's manager went on to tell me that "they have approached a few other insurers to see if this is something that they can look at for us.

Any policies that all already in force will still have these covers, it is only polices renewed or incepted henceforth."

I will update Club members on any developments.

I jusr insured mine with Classic Line. £406.00 but includes legal and breakdown cover. I have Green Flag cover already but the guy says he couldn't remove the breakdown cover. It was inclusive and wouldn't make a difference to the price. That quote of £400.00 was the same as confuseddotcom came up with with Admiral.

I've called up earlier as my renewal is up and the guy on the phone mentioned about the breakdown cover & retention policy before I even asked. I've said that the retention policy is a bit of a sticking point, so will have to get a couple of quotes to see if anyone else will do this.

I've got my X1/9 insured through Hagerty who include the breakdown and retention cover we need Alexis.

May be worth talking to them.

I've very recently had my ClassicLine renewal. I've just called them and specifically asked the question about salvage retention and breakdown cover.

Salvage retention

Automatic for vehicles over 20 years old and on request (but at the insurer's discretion) for vehicles under 20 years old

Breakdown cover

Included within the premium (inc full European cover)

When I mentioned that one of their competitors for Coupe insurance was rumoured to have removed these benefits, even though they are using the same insurer, I was told that this would be something that has been removed by either the insurer, or the broker

So - if you want the salvage and breakdown cover, Classicline should be on your shortlist - service has been very good for the three years I've been with them

Sadly the latter was what I was told by my present insurer.

Gone with Classicline. Similar price to Glynwood and have salvageable retention and the policy is through ERS

What value should I give My year 2000 VIZ

I anit selling anytime soon as enyoy the car put a lot of time and effort into the car so it makes sense to get proper insurance.

Red good paint work
Mileage 170 K
Sunroof
Engine Perfect ( don't know fiat do it)

Advice appreciated

Some jobs in the last 15 months it's had.
Documented history..

New and disk pads all round
Genuine fiat front roll bar and steering rack
Rear antiroll bar (to do)
Genuine wishbones
Monroe front shocks and top mounts
KYB rear shocks
After market radiator
Genuine gear leaver
Genuine inlet hose
Duracell battery
New AvonZ5 all round ( regret )!
New MTS exhaust rear section

It's all standard my aim is to get it to drive like it left the factory. Dash and drivers door rattle is next job to sort.
Everything works as it should and nothing is missing except a seat rail groomet and plastic cap over air flow chamber except niggling 4th gear will be fixed soon)

Sorry for the OT but why the regret on the ZV5's?
I currently have ZZ3's which have been excellent and was looking at 5's to replace them.
