Will Theresa run this this year. I'm in a bad way and hoping to return to the forum for some community weight loss.

Hi Steve laugh I wasn't planning to, but I will if it helps people.

It's never helped me but I'm beyond help laugh I thinking getting rid of the Coupe will help, I've got fatter and fatter for each year I've owned a Coupe rolleyes laugh

I plan to start my diet/healthy eating on Monday, so if people want this weight loss thread again, then my first weigh in will be Monday.

Well I would sign up. It was a big help to me in the past.

I wouldn't bother with people trying to gain weight. I understand it's a struggle if you are a gym buff but it just irritates the comfortable gentlemen out there to see people bleeding about how they need to gain 6 kg of lean muscle. It demotivates me and I suspect it doesn't help most people. They can run their own thread if they like.

I presume you'd have to bundle your soul with any such sale Theresa. I still miss my coupe. I believe pinnin still has it though so it is not "lost to me". I've not seen her for over five years though.

I agree with you on the weight gain thread Steve, so I'll leave that to someone else to do.

As people may or may not remember, I weigh myself every Monday, so will update my weight then, but will also update anyone elses as soon as I see it posted smile

I've added you now pinin, thanks cool

I hope this year turns out to be a good year for all of us to get to or near a weight we're happy at.
I'll still have a few stone to lose, even after my initial target of 15 stone is reached, but if I can get down to 15 stone this year I'll be happy.

I was 20 st 5 lbs this time last year and have spent all year on and off diets, miserably failing, just to end up at the same weight again this year frown

My method will be the good old and trusted calorie counting, but will be making a few changes to try and eat healthier with my allowed calories and to cut down on the alcohol too.

Good luck everyone smile

Have a word with Beth at SX Nutrition. She has helped a lot of people I know lose weight at incredible rates on her diet plans. Believe it or not 'most' of them moaned about not being able to eat it all... I lost 1kg a week for four weeks on one of her plans. That is about as extreme as it gets but 2.5kgs a month for a year should be a doddle for you thumb

I'm going to lose about 10 pounds in the next twenty minutes!

Want to know how?

I'm going to buy a digital weighing scale. My analogue one is rubbish!

Unfortunately, you still need determination and willpower to moderate, which I lack frown It's just too easy to order a takeaway or down a few beers after a hard day or even as a treat on a day off frown
Something I intend to try and work on this year though smile

JKD, I love Trio bars too laugh

I still say it's worth asking her. I lost 5kgs in eleven months using the knowledge I had and that was training five hours a week. Another 4kgs in four weeks was ridiculous!

The thing that's good about Beth is that she keeps in contact and has pointers as you go. If you crave something, let her know and she squeezes it into your diet plan. Just be honest with everything you eat / want to eat and she'll help you out. She would even send an occasional email telling me what I'm likely feeling like as the weeks went on. One day she said "you'll be craving salt now and it's important that you don't have too much" and I'd literally starting upping it on my food...

I'm sure lots of people / companies out there do this sort of thing but I've followed her advice persoanlly and seen many others do it and it works thumb

T, please can I join?

Weighed myself this morning and I came in at a belt busting 14st 2lbs I've never been this heavy before shocked

A few mitigating circumstances though, I've not been able to run for 9 weeks due to shinsplints and not able to cycle for 6 weeks due to a broken metacarpel. All I've done is eat and drink!

Target weight - 12st 7lbs.

I weighed myself again this morning after going to the toilet (sorry, too much information! ) and it was 84.9kg.

Thanks.

Can I join too please Theresa? Hoping the community weight loss will help keep me on track!

My eldest sister died 2 weeks short of her 60th birthday. She was very overweight and developed diabetes and leg ulcers and ended up in a home needing 24 hour care. I want to be a fit and healthy 60 year old so I need to get a grip and shift the weight now or I can see myself heading the same way. I didn't even manage to lose anything for my stepdaughter's wedding recently.

Current weight is 88.6kg I'm aiming for 80kg for now.

My plan is to eat sensibly and increase regular excercise.

Ali

Sorry to come late to this party. Life happened.

Start weight 14 stone 1. Eeeeeek. Never been fatter. It may have been a heavy day, but I'm taking it as my motivation.
Target weight 13 stone.

Good to know. Can you post some pictures up of her please.

What's this "update your account to enable third party web hosting" I keep seeing instead of people's photos?

It's down to Photobucket pulling hosting from people like us to stop us sharing photos unless we pay something like £400 a year frown
I've got loads of photos on there that I can't get off there frown

For the first week, I wanted to see how much my weight is actually affected as a result of my sedentary lifestyle and generally unhealthy eating.

My weight today is... 84.7kg.

Thanks, but I know most is water weight and I can gain just as much in a week. I also have a lot of weight to lose, so it will probably come off quicker than someone with less to lose.
4 lbs off is a good loss for you too cool

Let's hope we all do as well for the next weigh in smile My weekend off work this weekend, so I don't expect much of a loss, if any!

Fairly late to this, but have started the new year diet as of Monday. Starting weight 15, 10 3/4. Target of 13, 12.... so work to do!

Some good starts from others who got cracking sooner!

Cheers
Simon

I've got on well all week, but it's my weekend off this weekend and will be having a takeaway and a few beers so am hoping my work throughout the week will balance out the weekend.
Will wait and see what the scales say on Monday!

15st 13.8lbs, lost 6lbs (this is despite snacking on crisps, cheese and bombay mix on numerous occasions over the weekend).

Two and a half weeks in and amazingly I have lost a stone!
Reduced calory intake, no snacks and lots of exercise (mostly walking) seem to be paying off.
My local village panto with sit down meal and beer will probably see me put back 1/2 stone at the weekend!!!

Well weighed in today and got the all clear from the Doc etc that the shoulder should be ok to train on.

So start weight is 147Kg which is a lot heavier than most but im a different build due to my Job.

Plans is drop down to 120-125Kg then train back up to about 130Kg.

Good luck everyone and hope all targets are reached

No change for me. Thankful as I had a fairly big weekend with meals out twice and a few beers. Did manage a parkrun and a 40 mile bike ride to counter the excesses laugh

Aarrgh. Sorry for the delay in reporting. Same weight for me on Monday at 88kg. frown
Been using rowing machine at home, more exercise and better portion control. I've even declined various birthday goodies at work (its always someone's birthday in the office) but it doesn't show on the scales! On the plus side though my shape is starting to look better and I think I've found my tummy muscles!

At least you haven't gained any weight Ali cool Maybe the fat is turning to muscle, hence the no weight change, but a better body shape? smile

I put on 0.75lbs blush

Had family over for the weekend and ate and drank way too much. Coupled with not running or cycling, the weight went back on.

down to 15, 0 3/4 today so 10 lbs lost in total. Got a birthday coming up this week (and not a small one at that) so not making any bold predictions for a weeks time!

Apologies for butting in here as I haven't signed into this thread so to speak. I would like to share my weight loss experience. I lost just over a stone in four weeks. I did not really go on a diet as such but totally cut out all alcohol, I didn't starve myself but cut out snacking.

I did some walking but due to dodgy knees & a metal hip, I really can't walk miles. This is the bit that some on here may find interesting if they are like me.....I do armchair sit ups!!!! Yes, simple as that. Started off by doing thirty at a time then progressed to sixty & so on, now I'm doing over a hundred at a time.

What I do is...chair obviously, sit upright, stretch legs as far out as possible, then bend down and touch toes coming back up with arms bent and flat hands under the chin. Do this as many times as you feel you can & increase over time. Repeat this when you can throughout your day.

As a carer I'm sitting on my arse quite a lot & I practise this with some of my clients, good exercise for them to. What spurned on was I'm attending a big wedding in March & my kilt did not fit me, nor my Prince Charlie jacket... frown shocked So time for a change. yipee

An easy exercise that worked for me. Good luck to everyone what ever way you choose to trim up.

I'm an old git & happy with it,most of the time

15s 10lb

Finding that the weekends are a killer - a few beers on Friday and Saturday and the weight all goes back on by Monday. However, I'm going to try a new approach this drink loads and eat very spicy food. I reckon my output will at least equal my input.

Don't worry Theresa, that's still a great weight loss overall! thumb

I'm 87.3 kgs. My fitness watch has noticed I don't do enough on Tuesdays. Bugger off, I didn't have any of the free pancakes at work. That's what i call resistance training! wink

Well done Ali cool

robcal, just remember you are still 6 lbs lighter than you were at the start cool
Being in work helps you stick with a diet and a routine. You need a lot of willpower to continue this when off work for a week.

You'll get back into it though, don't let it worry you or put you off, just get back on it, don't give up and the weight will come back off smile

Putting my reading in early for Monday as I'm off to for a week's skiing in Finland. At least I won't be drinking too much at nordic prices!

I weighed in today at 85.7 kgs so I'm on a mission not to gain while I'm away.

A week's half board with tasty Lappish food means 1 kilo on for me, 86.7Kg today.
I'll have to be really careful now as an injured shoulder (I hit the slopes too literally) means no running or rowing for a while. frown

Sorry I’ve been very quiet on this for a while. Had a bit of a pause in the diet for a while for a number of (mostly planned) reasons, but. A knob the wagon now! Down to 14, 10 3/4 as of today so that’s the first stone shifted

I got down to 14st before a week away on an all-inclusive holiday.
A week away without scales, limitless food and drink, meant I put on 7lbs by my return! blush
Good news is I am back down to 14st 3lb, as of this morning.

Well - only maybe! Must double check message this week!

Down to 14, 9 1/4 so over halfway to the 2 stone target. I fear the Easter weekend may result in a bit of a stall this week though!

My weight has maintained the last couple of weeks, but have this week off from my main job, so lots of beers and fast food/takeaways.

I'll get back to it from Monday and have things like brown rice and chicken on my shopping list so I'll be ready rolleyes laugh

Thanks Theresa - hopefully you can get back on track.
My weight loss has largely been down to Mrs B joining in and our keeping each other on track.
Come to think of it, any of my modest successes are all down to Mrs B!

I started my weight cut this week. I had crept up to 14st 10lbs (which is 7lbs heavier than I was at the start of the year) but I'm on it now.

Current weight = 14st 8lbs.

Took the coupe out yesterday with three other mates from my rugby days.
I suspect we had over a combined 60 st between us, so no surprise in a considerable drop off in performance! shocked

Thread resurrection, rather than starting another. Lost 3/4st lately due to a few things going on. Wife has been on at me for ages is the starting point. blabla I'm due another hip replacement in the not too distant future. The pain has been so bad the Doc' has prescribed me Tramadol (I know) shocked anyway, loosing weight has been pretty easy so far, the meds has lost me my appetite, & Ive been advised to loose some bulk before the op' . So there we have it, anyone else lost some weight lately for the coming season?..... party.

Although hospital waiting times up here is not too bad, but, & there is always a but Simon, there are quite a lot of knee & hip replacement in the queue. Lots of arthritis & related problems in my neck of the woods. I'm down for a cancellation but even then there's a queue. Realistically some time in the first part of next year should see me pain free.

Well done Jim cool Losing some excess weight is always good for your health and even better if you're heading for an op. Although, if you keep losing weight, your hips will benefit and maybe relieve some of the pain?

As for my weight loss, well, I need an op to wire my jaws together and take away most of my stomach in order for any weight loss to happen laugh

Whilst I was on the weight loss thread in 2017 and didn't sign up for the 2018 one, but did take the weight loss a bit more seriously.

June 2018 I was around 12st 7 and as of now weighing in around 10st 2 smile

Well I've lost a stone & a half, I can fit into my 34" trousers that have been away for a long time.. laugh I'm still going to try another stone which will take me to 13 stone & it's been decades since I've seen that number stepping onto scales. I'm still struggling to get rid of my pot belly properly.... yipee I'm exercising as well, all be it from the armchair. My hip just wont let me walk very far to get any proper exercise. Ah well onwards & upwards.... bye

By the way Begbie I was at school when I was 10 stone... shocked

Hit the thirteen & a half stone mark, very pleased with that. Apart from very little alcohol & stopped all snacking, I've been exercising like hell from my chair, lots of belly planks/crunches & other exercises designed for the over 60's hippy

Must admit I became very lazy over the last few years & was at my heaviest at fifteen & half stone, I've got the bug & I'm going to stay slim....Well that's the plan.. laugh

Hey All!
Some long time Back I checked my weight and had a shock.
I singed up to one of these and I have missed them.

I started to run, I already cycled to work.

I lost weight, I stayed motivated. You all helped. I ate more good food, and the same treats!

Before I was going on 15 Stone ish. At the end of the year I was 12. Today several years later I'm 13.5 stone. And I'm stronger but I could not run a 10K or a 5K in the time I could back in 2012. I now cycle a much more strenuous route to work that is slightly longer. I've a bust shoulder.

Our lives change and complexities happen. I'm at the top end of what I think is right for my frame. I could lose 0.5 stone of fat and get to 13 stone. But I am stronger than I was in 2012. This stops the pain from injuries!
12 stone is probably not where I should be, I was below this even and obsessed with getting a sub 40 minute 10K. (Sub note I lost so much weight it effected my hearing at some points) You can become unwell through obsession.

I hope to encourage not dissuade, some fairly simple changes can have an effect, you don't have to go without, A late evening long walk can lower blood sugar and in-turn can lower what gets stored as you sleep. That can simply stabilize weight which may help with a first step. If you can maintain a weight, long term you can loose some should you want to.

A good tool for android is sports tracker, track your walking now, from the car to the office ETC... Find the base line, Up the amount. It does not take as much as you may think. However if you want to loose a lbs a week you need to aim for 3500 calories a week. And that's a lot of effort for a beginner. I'm Jef_UK we can probably follow each other.

  • There is no one answer, no secret ingredient. Fats not bad, Sugar is not bad. Beer is not bad..... Excess is the enemy and everything must be in balance. Want a beer at the end of a shit day? Then don't have a chocky bar mid day. Want a cake? Eat it with morning coffee Gives the most time to burn it off. To burn it off you need to walk to the sandwich shop at lunch and not eat chips at the canteen!
  • stabilize, through moderate exorcise and a few fewer snakes, one less biscuit and ten minutes more walking a day. most of us are probably only gaining a tiny amount but if like me it was over years. This is stabilizing. The first step.
  • Introduce a deficit, Lift Weights, walk further eat some less. A combination of all these Not starving. Not suffering if you can do all three the benefits can be reaped.
  • Learn to lift Long term it will help you to build toned muscle, you may not lose weight but may loose an inch of waist, Also health benefits are to be found. Dead lifts have cure my back ace!
  • if you add a little muscle focused exorcise and don't expect instant changes, stick to the first step of maintenance eating
  • Be patient, sudden shock diets don't really work, they lower your bodies energy requirement.
  • Increase the calories your body needs to live, build good muscle. You don't need to be Eddie Hall but he knows how to lift. Get strong and you avoid hurting in the real world.
  • Protein rich foods can make you feel full longer, drinking water can make you fell fuller, not filling on water, but keeping hydrated. Not everyone problem.

Summery
  • Step one stabilize add an evening dog walk or just a stroll.
  • Muscle mass makes you look slimmer and also burns more calories
  • Don't starve yourself it works against you
  • Lift Weights burns calories whist you do and when you don't
  • Don't eat more

BIG Guys
If you are really big; You are your own weights! Don't be silly, but if you youtube search starting strength and learn to squat with your own weight Look at the foot positioning, the body position and stand up from a chair. Keep your weight over the mid foot. Worst case is you get up from a chair less painfully.
Learning to Squat | The Starting Strength Method : youtube search to learn the movements Squat to a stool avoid injury when you go down it gives a base to stop you going too far.
Day 1 ONE SQUAT or sit and stand, for the really big ( don't be silly about it.)
Day 2 TWO SQUAT or sit and stand, for the really big ( don't be silly about it.
Day 3 THREE SQUAT or sit and stand, for the really big ( don't be silly about it.

Get the idea?

Get to reps can you do 3 of ten? There is no rush.

Next and this one is for the really big guys, get an old shoe box you can crush, lift your leg over it, Not beinWorst case is you get up from a chair less painfully.g silly here but that can be hard. Step ups scare the hell out of me for the big guys as a fall can be life changing a shoe box step over is the leg lift and that is enough for step one.

Once you are happy you can get mobile big guys get to a gym and singe up that is step two or three. You have begun the journey and whatever destination it is the reward. As you slim down do more standing but the gym should start you on slow walks with seated weights Cary on with your standing up from a chair.

Go for it!

Well I'm just short of the 13 stone mark, & that's very good for me. I've been doing a bit of weight training just to tighten things up a bit, mainly concentrating on my stomach. Last time I was this weight I was in my 30's shocked
