Challenging race at Silverstone (jinxed by Fishy Dave of this parish declaring it a “dry” Silverstone) with heavy showers in the middle of the race causing several crashes and the last 10 minutes of the race under a safety car.

I qualified 4th of 42-ish entries and finished 2nd overall and 2nd in class.

How I didn’t share paint with one of the other Alfas, I don’t know - we came very close in the horribly slippery conditions. I also had bits of my dash shedding themselves during the race which was rather distracting when it’s amongst your pedals.

Still, a great deal of fun. Roll on my debut at Oulton Pk.

Nice moving between 9' and 10' driving

You were lucky that piece of hardware didn't lodge itself somewhere less convenient at 10'43"!

Rain on dry track later sick

I wouldn't if you can help it - we'd need a lot more paint to fix that!

Ha - very witty, Jim. I must find 5 secs to check air line and weekend dates. So stupidly busy...

Genuine question, not an insult or "You should drive like this....".

Your line through the last chicane seems different to how I would take it.

I would have taken the first entry tighter leaving a smoother entry and exit from the chicane (Hope that makes sense). In my mind that gives better drive and line for the entry into Start finish.

That being said, I am not circuit racer, but Gymkhana racer. You are a circuit racer so hoping you can explain where I am wrong? (it may help me in FormulaG)

Hi Elder - always open to a critique and I don’t know that my line is the best. I try a few things when I’m learning a circuit based on an approach Mark Hales taught me but I’m far from perfect.

I just watched Lewis Hamilton’s 2018 pole - he takes a slightly wider line but not massively. I find I’m grip-limited on the Club corner onto the straight in any case so it doesn’t feel like a wider line will gain me much as I could get the car to corner much quicker even if I had a wider line of attack. In a race, turning in late (I’m not sure if that’s what you mean by tighter) to the left-hander exposes you to a block-pass dive up the inside (something I’ve used myself).

In quali I tried some different lines so I’ll take a look at my data to see which actually worked best and, in quali, I took the opportunity (especially if the lap was wrecked by a slower car) to completely compromise the chicane to start the next lap absolutely on the ideal approach to the straight. If you’re doing a one-lap sprint-style thing, I’d do that.

ETA - kudos for the FormulaG stuff - that looks like my idea of hell trying to remember where to go. I did a sprint at Alford many years ago that resembled that type of course and I hated it!

Just been looking at my quali data. My GPS speed at the start line is mostly within 1mph (at 99mph) regardless of my line through the chicane. By far the greatest impact on my overall lap time was the speed I could carry through Abbey - in fact, I think this was where my car was particularly strong - going through at around 100mph and around 1.2-ish lateral G. You can carry that speed all the way through Farm to Village.
