Very sorry to learn a motor racing legend has sadly passed today.
Being a young lad in the seventies and desperate for James Hunt to be world champ, little did I appreciate how deserving Niki really was.
Brave beyond words in so many ways, his contribution to the sport has been vast.
May he rest in peace.

For some reason I thought he was far younger than 70. He was a straight talker which I liked.

I'm an old git & happy with it,most of the time

Only really appreciated what he did after watching the film Rush, which seems to be a fairly good portrayal.

Seemed an honest and very talented guy. Life must have been tough living with the after effects of the crash.. lung damage etc.

RIP

Yes, very sad. He was the regular expert on RTL TV in Germany and he would be the voice of sense in the usual partisan presentation of any sporting event, in our living room every other weekend for the last 2 decades. He was the guy you wanted to listen to. The one that gave great information, and made you laugh and made the other presenters look ordinary. He was the little big man. It was already sad when he took ill and wasn't coming back. I guess we were expecting the worst but hoping that he would be OK. We really like him too and even though we didn't know him, we miss him not seeing him.

Sad to hear of his passing, he was one of the guys you wanted to listen to whenever the opportunity came along over a GP weekend. He was a icon to many and very generous with his time from what I have read. He took time to talk with Billy Monger when he visited the Mercedes pits and I am sure his support went a long way to inspire Billy in his recent racing results. RIP
