Can't find fuel pump #1637729

I need to replace the fuel pump on my 1997 20VT.

The correct OEM number is 46472794.

I tried two different websites, both delivered via autodoc.
In both cases I ordered:
https://www.autodoc.nl/maxgear/13934907
But I got:
https://www.autodoc.nl/stark/7587395

I strongly have the idea that the Stark is meant for 20VTs as of 1998. Since it looks exactly the same as a pump I bought from jojo (coupe enthousiast who unfortunately has quit with remanufacturing parts) which, after checking with my pump assembly, proved to be for the newer 20VTs.
Although the Stark does not have OEM number 46476781 on the autodoc site, which should be the number for the later 20VT models. So good news for you guys with the newer 20VTs: I have three new pumps in spare for someone.

Searching via 46472794 on autodoc als gives this pump, but very expensive:
https://www.autodoc.nl/delphi/7016798

However, I still need a pump!

When I search via other OEM numbers mentioned at he Maxgear pump on the autodoc site, I do find alternatives:
https://www.autodoc.nl/meat-doria/7753251
https://www.autodoc.nl/era/14555953

Did one of you try the meat&doria assemby (and does this include the pump) or the era 770011A (does this work since it provides 120l/min instead of 110l/min)?

Any other options?

Why are the price differences between after market pumps this huge, any relation to quality?

In the picture:
On top is the original Walbro from my 1997 20VT
The middle one is from jojo, certainly for a 1998-2001 20VT
The lower one is the Stark I got twice without asking, my guess for a 1998-2001 20VT also

I’ve got a few chassis here which both still have the fuel pumps in the tank.

I’ll get them out tomorrow and check the part numbers for you

Although I’d imagine the pumps you’ve bought will all be fine as even if they provide too much fuel the fuel pressure regulator will do its job and there’s a return line for fuel to go back to the tank anyway

Thanks. The three new pumps don’t fit in the plastic casing and i want to keep it original. The new pumps have a slightly larger diameter and a different shape at the bottom.

But IIRC when fitting the Walbro the plastic housing had to be cut to fit the larger diameter pump, but it's no big deal, why not do that?

...and if you say that your 1997 20vt has a Walbro fitted then that implies it has already been modified? It's all very well trying to maintain originality, but if OE parts are not available, you have to make do with alternatives. It's very common for aftermarket suppliers to only have one version of a part compared to multiple versions as specified originally by the manufacturer, albeit with tiny changes. And even if your Coupe is in concours condition, you won't drop any points in a concours competition for not having an original fuel pump wink

Ah OK sorry, yes you are right, the original pump is Walbro, here are pics of my original pump from a 1996 20vt, together with what looks like a part of the plastic housing that I needed to remove when fitting the uprated Walbro pump. But the 4500270 is a patent number, not a part number, MSS077 is the Walbro part number to search on and it throws up 4 alternatives on Autodoc but all are shown out of stock, but I also get Meat & Doria 76914 or Fispa 70002 which shows a seemingly endless list of alternatives...

The walbro was fine for 23 years, but now makes new noises which could indicate upcoming failure.

I did not think of searching via mss077, only the fiat number. Thanks for the tip. On autodoc.nl 4 hits for mss077 and my car, al out of stock, like in your screenprint.
I will search via mss007 from now on. Meat & doria 76914 looks different. Fispa / sidat 70002 is not available on autodoc, thanks for the italian site.

Perhaps
https://www.autodoc.nl/airtex/7127031
Although it does not list the capacity. Another alternative delivers 100l/min, which is less than the original

After three times ordering pump x and receiving y after each time several weeks, I was fed up with it and ordered two pumps and one complete pump housing including pump at once.
And now they are all fine smile.
Although I did not test with the engine running yet (doing a refurb of rear brakes, brake lines and rear axle also).

- The pump housing (Meat & Dorian) looks the same as in my 1997 20VT except minor details, but has the pump shape of a 1998-2000 20VT
- I now have two new 1997 20VT pumps, of which I will use one
- From previous attempts I have 3 new pumps for a 1998-2000 20VT

So concluded:
- Pumps and even pump housings are available for reasonable prices
- The material master database of the main after market automotive suppliers is in bad shape for at least Fiat Coupe related products
- Don't just search on the Fiat Coupe OEM numbers. If you find a part that is listed but not available anymore, search again with other OEM numbers from that part and you might get Lucky (I did the same for the large top mount bearings).
- I have several new aftermarket pumps for sale if you need none.
