I have a 20vt+ but my son has owned a 20vt since 2000.He is soon to be promoted to captain in the RN & his job took him to the USA.
He loves & cherishes it that much after 20 years he could not bear to sell.
It is in wonderful storage with me titivating it every so often until his return in 3 years.
That's gotta be love. Until then he has to put up with a Dodge Charger!

Lucky chap!

If he stays in the US much longer he’ll be able to legally import it...! The limit for imports is 25 years so the first registered Coupes are now importable.

I've been to visit him in Washington & everything out there is massive. They have loads of big wide roads with speed limits ranging from 25 to 70 but they cannot let go about big cars. I was a bit fed up of seeing huge pickups & suvs trundling along at 25,there's no variety. When he gets back he will think the coop is a midget!

D.C. is like London Town = expensive tourist area/city prices. But your £stirling is not the force it was 3 years ago. So you don't get so much bang for your buck in the USA anymore (or anywhere world wide)

State is cheaper though - big fat V8's from the 50's ánd some new trucks still use torsion suspension...its like time has stood still with no need to push MPG as fuel is so cheap.

Regards

MM

Yeah, W State is awesome, you can almost feel the "Wild West". Pretty much self-sufficient especially on the east side of the Cascades where the plains are drier than the dampness of Seattle for example. People are laid back, crime scarce, and don't forget the craziest of exits over toward Oregon

That bridge is a beauty! Next time over will try & get him to organize visiting some classic car meets but I think Washington state is just a bit too far at the moment.

It gets my vote as a future retirement spot, now that Europe is (sadly) off my list of places following brext.

Don't panic, things will be fine, we are in charge of our own destiny. Without being too political & being able to remember.
We joined the Common Market to trade amongst Europe, fine, Then after wine lakes & butter mountains we end up being run by the EU.
Why have our own laws & MPs, might as well get rid.
I'm sure everything will work out ok so retirement in the UK will be lovely.

Visiting anywhere outside the UK has become considerably more expensive due to the value of the £ in recent years frown

As for retirement overseas. I suspect this option will soon only be open to the most wealthy of UK retirees.

To retire to the States is not easy. I understand the only options to obtain residency are to be sponsored by a Family member, or invest $500K under the Visa EB-5 rule. Both are quite complex, can take a long time and are fraught with tax implications.

Post Brexit will likely see similar rules applicable to anyone looking to retire within the EU. I have some American Friends that emigrated from the USA to Italy for their retirement. It was so tough they almost gave up! We were looking forward to planning a warmer climate retirement option, following in the footsteps of several forum members. But even though I consider my / our pension provision to be considerable, everything is looking more complex and I am just not too sure any more. Swallowing the effects of the de-valued £ was one thing but having to go through citizenship tests and wealth assessments is just a pita.

I unfortunately don't for one minute believe that is true, hopefully that is a huge dose of irony. Looking at the correlation between those who voted Leave in their demographic sub-groups: age (66+) 59% voted leave (18-25 : 28%), ethnicity (white) 52% (BAME 36%), education (no qualifications) 75% (Degree Level 28%) and household income (below £20K) 58% (£60K+ 35%); the data shows that there was greater support for Leave in areas with older populations and lower than average education, who witnessed significant demographic change and continuing or a worsening of deprivation/poverty. It will be interesting to see how Brexit (UK autonomy) affects these groups in the next 10-20yrs and the geographic areas where support was higher or those who pass into the sub-groups etc. My view and looking at UK political history it will be a 'false flag' coup and will disproportionately negatively affect the very groups who supported Leave, despite BoJo's and the Tories Doublespeak of 'levelling up'.

You've not stated what kind of storage but need to keep an eye out for mould and rodents. Mate has a few cars stored on his farm in a barn and despite his best efforts he has suffered on a couple of cars. Serous mould in one car, it must have been damp when left and the mildew spores got everywhere. It ruined the interior and took a lot of work to remove it all. Vermin got into another and destroyed the foam in the seats and much of the wiring too.

He now has some de-humidified bubble tent things and has had no further issues. They're so good I've been thinking of getting one for my winter storage.

I think it should be ok Bob.
His close friend Jason owns the franchise for
www.baumann-sideloaders.co.uk
It is a new lovely airy warehouse about 3 miles away from me & Jason has kindly let him store it there with a fabric car cover.
So hopefully jobs a good un!

I know this is off topic but couldn't disagree with you more. We had our cake and we could eat it whilst in the EU - we kept Sterling, we retained border controls, we could pick what we wanted out of Schengen etc so unlike other countries we made it fit. Yes it wasn't perfect but can we hold up the British political system as a shining example of democracy - I think not (first past the post hardly fairly reflects the sentiment of the electorate). Lets hope that negotiations are done in good faith with a real desire to get a decent deal come the end of the year and the hidden agendas (perhaps not so hidden) of the ERG and similar cronies don't push through a no deal Brexit which would be a total disaster.

Of course this is my only humble perspective and have no real opinion on the matter .. wink

Coupe life is so much simpler .. laugh

But should I say congratulations on your sons promotion in the RN smile Friends of ours son has just been accepted on an RN bursary at Uni and they pay a decent wedge to help his studies. I think he's off to Dartmouth at some point and signs up to 10 years in the service. Funny how kids turn out - I never saw it coming (and neither his parents!) him joining the forces!

Thank you,I hope your friends son is successful in his career. All past family on my side were RN but my brother & I never thought of it(too busy with the swinging 60s)
My son at 6th form(never went to Uni) decided he wanted to join the RN as an officer completely by himself & was accepted & started off at Dartmouth.
Like you say, never know whats going to happen.

Not easy Bob - but not impossible - in fact I spoke with a couple of town halls when last out in the USA about it and there view was as long as you leave the usa one day out of every two years-as a Brit your more then entitled to get buy a home, get a bank account, get a driving licence and live there. The secret is not wanting to be an American. I like the country and their freedoms, but have no intention to become one of them. With the south of France now not an option (the right to just move there has gone) Regards

MM - thanks to Brexit- I'm just learning to compromise. And happy to spend what it takes to find myself in a place that feels like home used to be. 30 years or so ago. I know it won't appeal to many - but hey that's what makes live interesting isn't it. I don't like Ant and Dec ether for what its worth. So I am a real social pariah.

:-)

Regards

MM
