Hello Everyone,

Me and my partner have been looking for a coupe 20vt after always been a fan. We have not found the right one yet on our budget but have a few in the pipline.

I have good resto knowledge and it seems a few are hiding horror stories these days cry

Anyway i wanted to say hello on behalf of both of us. With a bit of luck we will find one soon smile

Would be ace for you to come up and join us at our annual meets Mick - this year has been a wash-out of course, but usually we have the Scottish Italian Car day at Hopetoun House near the Forth Bridges in May, then the big BVAC meet at Thirlestane Castle by Lauder in the first week of June. We also try to organise the odd local trip during the better weather so keep your eye on the UK Social Events thread. At Christmas we home in on La Mezzaluna in Carlisle which is run by an owner and family, who have a few coops between them cool

For a paltry £10 p.a. you can become a member and gain access to all the useful parts of the forum which will guide you through most of the ailments that currently exist for a Coupe laugh

Sorry late reply, weve had some poorly pets

My partner is from Carlisle on her English side and we are thinking if i am honest of moving to Scotland as her Dad grew up there after moving from Italy so it all sounds ideal smile

Now we just have to find a coupe. I am not going to lie, we are both getting a bit sick now of missing out on cars down south so have been hearing bikes call us .We have nothing fun on the road at the moment and were both fed up frown

Ive found a couple potentially not rotten for 3-4k but there always too far away and someone local is keen so your out the race. Some god awful welding and bodywork jobs are appearing too.... Welded by toddlers haha

Anyway a meet sounds good, i may even get up to one in our 4x4 im finishing off at the minute. Just dont leave anywhere fast hahaha

Welcome Mick

The very best of luck with your coupé search hope you find yourselves a good one.

Remember if your coming up to Scotland to pack you shorts, rain coat and skis.. Oh even if its only for one day.

Are there many rust free Coops available for 3-4k nowadays?

Doesn't that price range more or less contain average condition examples that have been driven as daily drivers - hence inevitable rust?

I'd expect the only ones nowadays that would be totally rust free are the restored ones/garage queens. But surely they would be above 3-4k?

I'm sure knowledgeable forum members can enlighten us as to the current state of the Coop market.

From what i have seen i think a one to save/improve is out there for sure but inevitably most have surface corrosion at least this price on chips etc underneath.

Thats fine though if its still solid smile

Rust and rot are two very different things. Ones a bit time and work. The other is ALOT of skilled work or a huge bill for a job youll probably not be happy with.

Exceptions apply to all of course but generally i want to avoid a car that needs the welder out

There was a genuine seeming green 20vt came on ebay recently but he had someone local interested immediately sadly. I had second refusal and never heard back so it went im guessing

And i have mocked a few friends over the years for getting nose bleeds if they drive past Nottingham laugh

Hi Mick. I looked at a number of cars - some on ebay but all quite disappointing. They all needed quite a bit of work and would have cost 1000's to restore.
I was searching for around 4 months and kept a regular eye on the usual sites. I think the trouble with ebay is that even if you bid you still have to look at the car and then realise that it is worth less than you bid as you hadn't seen it. I would recommend viewing before you bid, but even then of course you may not win anyway.

Finally found the Babe on Preloved.co.uk. Ended up paying a bit more than I originally intended but in retrospect a good decision as I haven't had to spend much at all - just sorted out a few niggles. Bodywork rust free. Good Luck!

Hi

I totally forgot pre loved. I will keep looking and oh yes you are right.

I would not dream of bidding on a car. Most of them go off before the auction or as a classified in a flash if decent but everything I was looking at was found on ebay and would of been a private sale. The last green one i saw was a classified for 3.5k and if he was genuine sounded very clean. Less than 24 hours it sold local.

I dont actually think its possible to find a good buy on ebay via auction. If its worth 2k a idiot will pay 2500, lesson learned 2 years later into finishing off our jeep from ebay the last time haha.

Its nice to hear another success story though, keeps the hope burning

Mick
