Currently with Direct Line but there is no agreed write off value - they say they just pay market value at the time of the incident. My 20VT has only done 48K and is in excellent condition so was wondering if I should get an 'agreed value' insurance if there is such a thing...or leave with Direct Line, which is a which? recommended insurer. Not the cheapest though at £550. Phoned Stirling and they quoted £271 but that's with nearly double excess and no windscreen cover. They still won't agree a write-off value, however, They said they pay between an agreed figure and their valuation (probably nearer their valuation). Any suggestions for value insurance which will agree a decent write-off value. I assume they would have to see the car to value it though?

They all offer slightly different deals you'll find.

Have you tried Hagerty which has a connection with the club? Have a feeling your coupé needs to garaged though.

Also ClassicLine do an agreed value but if you don't get a professional to confirm its worth they'll charge you £24 for the pleasure of doing that themselves.

There is a recent thread concerning Adrian Flux which many of us have used in the past but their latest manoeuvreings don't show them in a very good light.

Well to be fair to Adrian Flux they do an agreed value policy so don't ignore them. And they don't insist on the car being garaged (seriously, does anyone keep their car in a garage?). Bottom line is that any 'normal' policy will only pay market value, which will be peanuts. So if you want an agreed value you'll have to go to a 'classic' type policy which will have restrictions on mileage etc.

I currently have three cars insured on a multi-car policy with Footman James. The Coupe is insured for an agreed value of £10,000 and all mods are declared. Car kep on the drive. My Westfield is insured for an agreed value of £8,000 and is garaged My Alfa GT daily driver is insured for market value (which is close to zero due to the mileage)

Total premium is around £450 with no mileage restrictions on any of the cars.

I found them very easy to deal with, although of course the acid test of an insurer is how well a claim is handled

FWIW, the Coupe was insured with Classicline for many years with an agreed value until Footman James beat them on price

Phoned NFU this morning and all sounded good until I mentioned I had fitted leather seats and a new radio then they thought about it and decided I was not eligible for their insurance!

Hi Nigel, That sounds a great deal - may give them a ring. Are they direct or broker?

OK James Footman it is. They deal direct and gave me a quote of £250 with agreed value of 9K. Everything done online and no hastle! Will probably add my old Puma at a later date.

Investigated adding the Ford Puma but not nearly so good a deal as it is my main car and total mileage > 10K. £450, which is a lot more than Direct Line so will stay with them for now for that car.

I moved to Direct Line some years ago, their quotes are good but it may pay to look at their renewals, I found if I completed a new request (for the same car) their quote was cheaper than the renewal. Green Flag are the same.

Incidentally in terms of write-off values, my best experience was with Tescos on my GTV, initially they quoted a low figure but they agreed to look on Autotrader and came back with a figure £1k over what I'd paid for it and over the insured value.
